Increase policy

by Ray Mora on Sep 30, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I am in Windsor and my policy increases by 200 Cad monthly. My new charge is 509 a month. This is insane when you are at Windsor. I was paying the same when I was in Toronto. I want to cancel my policy but they said that is going to charge for one and a half months. This is so frustrating.

For 2023 raised auto & home 50% and never had a claim

by Disappointed on Sep 1, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I received my renewal on my car and home insurance. It went up 50% and I have never made a claim. Not only that, I have had an accident in 50 years and neither has my wife. When I called them I was told, "well all insurance companies raised their rates by 50%". This is a lie. I called another insurer and they gave me a quote on a home and 3 cars for $900 less than Intact. They used to have very good rates but not anymore.

Worst company of my life

by Jack on May 14, 2021

I send them that I don’t want to renew with them. They send me a notice one month later, they said: "they didn’t receive my payment". I contacted my insurance broker ( because we can’t deal directly with Intact), they said I should advise by phone my broker. (that s not true) and they ask me for new insurance proof or I have to pay... I said it is not your business what is my new insurance company. I send them a legal letter, then, they cancelled my insurance. Also, I was with them since 2013 and we never claimed anything buy they increased my insurance between 10-15% every year. Avoid this company!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

COVID HELP REBATE!!!

by Blanche Zacca on May 8, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Guess what! I was awarded a rebate for the Covid of 72$; then, at the renewal of my policy, the cost jumps up for the same amount as the Covid rebate! My policy now is over a 1K although I had no claims nor accidents and I have over 30 years experience!?!
Shame on you Intact Insurance!

Stay away!

This company is a joke. The MyDrive discounts is a scam. They say 20% discount and they only give 1 fourth of it because they calculate it as they wish. !0 years of clean record, zero accidents, zero speed tickets etc and my insurance keeps going up. My car's value is 8k and I am paying half the value of the car annually for this terrible company. I tried to get rid of all comprehensive etc and it only makes 40$ difference which means they are dedicated to screw people. I got many quotes with less than 170$ and I don't have to pay double that for this scam company. Can't wait for august.

Unethical practices

by tmacmic on Jan 26, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

1st issue:

I was originally denied a claim even though it was not my fault, with witnesses and a police statement. It took 7 months to resolve the issues, receive money for my claim because they low balled my claim and continued to do so for months. All the while still paying a monthly premium without a vehicle tied to the policy.

2nd issue:

I had a policy under Jevco Ins. that Intact Ins. owns. Without warning, documentation, or consent on my behalf, Intact Ins switched my insurance, rose my premiums by 100% and when I inevitably cancelled the policy they hit me with a cancellation fee higher than my rate. Very unethical company.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Raises rates during pandemic

by APitt on Apr 10, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

So vehicle insurance is up for its yearly renewal during a pandemic. We were not driving anyways and didn't expect a decrease in premiums. So when we got the renewal to our shock, they increased premiums by 46 percent. I called the customer service to find out why the increase, since no accidents, violations and been with them for years. The representative was rude and gave a lame excuse about them raising rates due to the number of claims they received from everyone this past year. The representative also tried to state will not find new insurance or one that will take monthly payments right now. Hung up and called my broker. Advised broker they needed to find new coverage. The broker stated the same items the representative advised over the phone. I outright ask her if she gets a higher commission from Intact and how much of the brokerage firm that is under does Intact own. She tried to talk around it. I stated that much. I knew from past experience if a broker makes more from a company they will only push that companies product. I advised her to watch me. In twenty-five minutes new broker, new insurances cheaper rates than have been paying this previous year, monthly payments and more coverage. Stop using Intact and their brokers, especially when the firm is owned at a 50 percent share by Intact. It is about their bottom line. Not about their customers.

Not up front

by Patty on Mar 14, 2020

I bought car insurance with Intact Insurance. I had to pay upfront and did not offer a payment schedule. Then after renewing for the second year, they wanted to charge me an extra 100$ for not downloading an app. I feel so demeaned. I argued several times but they just kept sending me bills. Never get insurance with them ever again!

Keep away

by George 1950 on Mar 1, 2020

I'm a senior, 70 y.o. I'm with this company for 9 years now and it was a terrible mistake. 9 years ago I had a fender bender claim (small accident on parking). As a retired person I drive occasionally 2011 Dodge, no tickets. Last year I was paying $150/month. This February 1st I didn't get any renewal notice with new premiums (they switched to paperless). I checked deduction from my account - payment jumped from $150 to $220! Incredible increase with no reason. I'm just wondering how much money I lost trusting them and being a loyal customer.
