One of the worst insurance companies in Canada.. Run away as fast as possible

Very inexperienced adjusters all they care about is saving money to TD and don’t care about customers. I was with them for 7 years and 2 claims both not at fault and still gave me a hard time. Forced me to take my car to their body shop which did a horrible job and then they said to fix the issues with the repairs I have to open another claim and will be cost me in premium going up. Save yourself, don’t even look at them.
I really wish I would have read the reviews before I purchased insurance from this company. I had an accident with a car that I owned for 6 months. First accident first time dealing with an insurance adjuster, what a horrible experience. Wait times to talk to someone are ridiculous 1-2 hours even more. I left for two weeks every single day telling my adjuster how important it was that she call me back. I didn't get a call back until I filed a complaint with the manager. My brand new car that was in the accident they fixed it with used parts from a scrapped vehicle 2 years older than my own. The car does not feel the same as before the accident. Customer service skills are disgusting! The absolute worst insurance company I have ever dealt with! Needless to say, I cancelled my policy.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Claim 1. Auto repair - authorized (and recommended repair shop) made multiple errors in repair. I had to go back 3 times, no support from TDMM. Claim 2. Auto repair - adjuster delayed, and then disappeared. 4 calls to customer service (45-75min hold time per call), over a 4week period, to find out adjuster left the company and no one else was assigned. By now, 1 year had expired and they would no longer fulfill the claim. Claim 3. Home Insurance. Concerns that TDMM may have changed my policy without approval. Called 4 times (with lengthy wait times) over 2 months to get more info - was told a manager would call me back with details. No call received. Finally, I called back a 5th time and got a supervisor on the phone. Claim still in process, Regardless of the outcome, will be leaving TDMM this fall. They exemplify the stereotypical insurance company with processes designed to decrease their financial obligations.
I’ll start off with what seems to be the common trend, and that is the wait times are extremely long. I’ve been waiting for 2 hours and 20 minutes so far, but typically I’ve waited for an hour. So this is a record. Is there anyone working? They need to hire more people if everyone is really busy. And like others have said, they should tell you what number you are in the queue and call you back when it’s your turn like phone companies do. However, the real reason why I am posting this is because of the unprofessional customer service I have had with the adjusters for my claim. I was in a car accident earlier this year. My adjuster called me and left me a voicemail at 1 pm while I was at work (they have a record of your profession by the way so why would she call me during the way when I’m working?). I tried calling her back and left several voicemails and tried calling the claims department to which said “she’s been trying to get a hold of you. She called you on Monday.” She called me Once. I kept calling for 3 Weeks and when I tried emailing her to ask what’s the current status of my claim, she said “I don’t have info on your policy. You have to contact customer service.” That was completely irrelevant! I was even referred to her supervisor, who was just as impossible to get a hold of. Fortunately, after many calls, during the fourth week after my accident, I got through to a girl in the claims department who was so much help and filed my paperwork, who, by the way, was talking to me from Nova Scotia while I was in Ontario. Towards the end of my claim, my first adjuster finally emailed me to send her my documents, after 4 weeks. Sadly, just as I thought the nightmare was over, something else came up. I had used a rental car after my accident for one month since my car was a write-off and it was included in my insurance policy. I returned the car after and thought everything was fine. Last month, I got a notification that over $1400 has been withdrawn from my Visa. It was taken from the car rental company. I immediately called them after work and get through to a lady in accounting service. She tells me that she had been trying to get a hold of my adjuster from the insurance company and her manager because They Did Not pay the Rental Car... She emailed them saying that if they didn’t pay, she was going to have to take it out from My account and I’d have to deal with the issue. My accident was in January, and I had the accident until the end of February, so for 4 Months, TD Meloche did not pay the rental car company, and now I have to deal with it and wait on the phone to get a money transfer. And by the way, I’m still waiting for my licence plate to get released from the car dump (I did not get to remove it). This is another issue that I get to deal with. I’ve been waiting for 3 hours now since I started writing this review. The only reason I’m still with TD Meloche is because of their low rates and their insurance packages.
I’ve been with TD Meloche Monnex for almost twenty years and I’ve never made a claim or had a claim against me. Recently, my parked car was hit by a drunken driver; thankfully, two local people dragged him out of the truck and held him until the police arrived. I had a letter from TD saying that I had zero deductible and so they’d be happy to pay for the repairs. They were super friendly in the beginning but then I was told my 1998 car wasn’t worth fixing and they’d give me $1000. I reminded them of the letter and I was told “that was then, this is now” and that it was a matter of wording. I’m still in the process of talking to other people but I’m told they will say the same thing - even before I’ve had a chance to talk to them. Earlier, I left for the winter and on my return, I replaced my insurance. “Do you want the windshield coverage to continue?” I’ve never had this coverage. I was told the agent must have hit the wrong key; there was no mention of a refund. Like others, I’ve also been told I can get much cheaper coverage elsewhere, even though I’m supposed to have a cheaper rate because of being in a group. My advice is to go elsewhere.
Nothing was harder in life than getting a hold of my adjuster. Resolving my fairly simple claim took 3 months. Not only did she never pick up, reply to her voicemails and read her emails, but she would also take weeks at a time to follow up. And, when she would be completely oblivious to how much I've been struggling to try to get her attention and taking Ubers every day from work. When she went on vacation and there was no replacement for her to take care of my claim. Her manager never ever picks up or replies to his voicemails either. Before she left for vacation she didn't tell me that I had the option of not writing off my car which is not fair and pressured me to sign a write off form in 3 hours as she's on vacation the next day for a month. I could have lost a brand new car because of an unfair estimate and she acted completely non-challenge about that. Whenever I'd call other adjusters, while she's away, they give me completely different answers to the same questions. When I called Service they forgot to tell me I'd lose collision coverage even though I asked and asked. This resulted in my having to pay off my loan after I've also had to pay out of pocket to fix the car as a result of them not explaining to me that I wouldn't be getting the cheque and instead the cheque goes directly to my lienholder. Took me maybe 5 phone calls to change my address on file. After, they finally started giving me answers they had the audacity to ask for a letter from my bank, that the bank said was highly unusual. This is also after they already confirmed, they were mailing out the cheque ... This experience was so horribly inexplicably bad that it could drive someone to insanity and alcoholism. Stay away from these people.
First of all...stay far away from this company! We had a small accident a few weeks ago that caused minor surface damage to the rear of our vehicle. We got our own repair estimate for $2500. We took it to their guys so that we could file our claim. We waited over THREE WEEKS for them to get back to us after numerous follow-ups, only to find out work hadn't even started on our vehicle. The repair shop blamed the insurance company for not sending paperwork, and TD Meloche blamed the repair shop for being backed-up with work. We, finally, escalated it to a manager. Got a call back the next day to tell us that the vehicle was considered a write-off. We're still waiting to find out our settlement offer, apparently, there is no one we can speak to on it, and we just have to keep waiting for some indefinite time. We bought our vehicle just three years ago for $11K. And they're writing it off for approx. $3k of damage? Why even have insurance if they can just choose to write it off for whatever they want and not repair it when you file a claim. This has been a complete nightmare I wouldn't wish to anyone. Oh...and we had no rental vehicle coverage on our policy, so all this time have been down a vehicle which I understand was our choice not to take it. But you also don't expect an insurance company to take three weeks just to START processing your claim. I tried to ask for a rental vehicle at this point but of course, the answer was no.
Their initial response to a claim is helpful and efficient. They will pay invoices from their business partners, such as body shops, quickly and without question, even when, as in one case, the invoice was fraudulent. Their handling of repair claims is satisfactory as far as the policyholder is concerned. The picture changes when they have to make a payment to the policyholder, and it can take months of haggling and even legal threats to reach an acceptable settlement. They drag out their responses, presumably with the intention of wearing down the policyholder, and their staff give the impression that they there to defend the company rather than help the client. Their process for assessing the replacement value of a stolen or totalled car is bizarre. It would be irresponsible to recommend them to anyone.
My vehicle was stolen in October. Was reported immediately. It was found in a different city a few days later. It took them over a month to have it brought back to the city it was stolen from so it could be inspected by our mechanic. We followed all the steps completed the report and my husband provided the written statement as requested since he had the vehicle when it was stolen. They have not approved the repairs so it has been sitting in the snow and has not been started since October (the keys were stolen). Now over 4 months later they are saying they need to do more investigation and need to meet with my husband to get a verbal statement. Like are you kidding me ?! Why wasn't this investigated 4 MONTHS AGO? I continue to pay for a vehicle just sitting there and my adjustor is always out of the office and yesterday waited on hold for 35 mins only to be hung up on. I'm so fed up. Would not recommend choosing this insurance and I will surely be switching after this is done .. if it ever gets done.

Rude, unprofessional employees who never return phone calls or emails. An insurance adjuster working in Alberta refers the car to a Collision Autobody all the way out in Oakville. My 90-year-old relative lives in Mississauga... DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. Talk about privacy laws but do not provide any flexibility or any solutions when my 90-year-old relative was involved in a car accident and has not been provided with a car rental. He does not own a computer you silly people and is computer illiterate!! What do you not understand? Giving my 90-year-old relative the run-around and treating him like an OLD SHOE...This insurance company owned by TD Canada Trust should be ashamed of itself for abusing and bullying elderly customers... RUN AWAY as fast as possible. TD Canada Trust is a horrible Bank and the insurance division is WORSE!!
