First Time Auto Insurance

by Clive Saldanha on Aug 24, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

I was told that a first-time auto insurance application takes between 2-4 weeks which is ridiculous in a competitive market like auto insurance. Even if you have had other home insurance policies with RBC for the last 10-15 years it does not matter. I checked in after 2 weeks to see if there were any updates and I was told that it could take 20 business days - which is a month since I applied. I was hoping to stay with one company for all my insurance policies but after such a bad experience I am looking to transfer all of my policies over to another insurer who can give you the insurance within a couple of hours. It is really unfortunate that my experience with RBC insurance is making me question other accounts I have with RBC for other services.

Poor customer service

by Nothappy on Aug 24, 2021
1.5 out of 5 stars

I've had my home and auto insurance with them claims-free for over 5 years. Spent 2.5 hours on the phone, trying to add my daughter as an occasional driver. Until recently, she had her own car, own insurance but it was written off in an accident, another driver documented as 100% at fault. Just over a year ago, my daughter was in an at-fault accident as a G2 driver. Hit a guy who ran a red light through an intersection while she was making a right turn.
I expected an increase in premium adding her as an occasional driver but RBC refused to add her to my policy, said either we sign an exclusion agreement document or they'll cancel my policy. Her father had no issues adding her as an occasional driver to his policy with his insurer with only a $43 /month premium increase.
Guess who's going to be shopping for a new home and auto insurance?

Waste of time

by Ericah on Aug 11, 2021

I’ve been trying to get insurance with RBC for 2 months now and all they do is waste your time. I’ve had to send in applications 3 times now and they keep coming back saying I have to wait another almost 4 weeks just for them to review it. And a few of them who I’ve spoken to are very rude and just say they cannot help me. I am very frustrated with them and have got absolutely nowhere with them.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

NEVER AGAIN

by J Doe on Jul 6, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Ever since Aviva partnered with RBC it's been a nightmare. Straight-up rip-off pricing. Terrible phone agents. They'll talk over you and hang up at their comfort during the middle of calls. Wait times were anywhere 40mins to 24hrs for them to call back if one of them chooses to. I've been on hold for 5 consecutive days 4hrs each day no one bothers picking up just stupid recording keeps playing over and over. I was a customer for 10years and this is the first time ever I had to call them to bind myself in headache. I will never give them my and family or friends business ever again. I am already pulling out insurance and banking with them and about 20 friends to follow. Yeah! Believe it or not... bye-bye RBC. KEEP UP THE IDIOCRACY TO THE MAX...

Automated Hell

If you want to pay for nothing but an automated robot to call for help then get Aviva. No one to call, miserable robots everywhere. Use a service that employers are humans.

Terrible experience

by Debra Rauseo on Jun 7, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

I've been with RBC insurance for over 10 years and since being moved to Aviva General insurance the experience has been the worst I've experienced... EVER! The expiration date on my credit card had changed so I received a letter for "declined due to card error". I called them and someone walked me through how to make changes online. I made the changes, paid the outstanding amount and the card info was correct. Aviva continued to enter the wrong expiration date so the payment was again "declined due to card error". They cancelled my insurance and won't even listen to the issue. My CC company confirmed the payment was declined due to them entering wrong info but they won't reinstate my insurance and put it in the system as "cancelled for non-payment". So I now have to pay 3 times the premium to get insured. Please do yourself a favor and save yourself from potential issues. Never missed a payment, always paid on time, no claims and this is what you get for customer service.

Rude

Very rude customer service. Call in about payment and was told if I don't like being overcharged I can end my contract. I have been with them for 15+ years never missed payment and I'm treated like that.

Horrible

by JAS on Apr 23, 2021

We wasted a lot of time going back and forth with RBC about our camping trailer, only to learn 6 hours in that our trailer was too old to insure! Umm, you could have told us that in the first 15 minutes.

Stay away

by Robert Frank on Jan 24, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

The worst customer service. On the phone for over an hour, the second call. First was disconnected with no call back after being put on hold and being on the call for 20 minutes. This was for home insurance, 4 policy’s with them now for over 5 years. No claims. Paid on time always. Was asked questions there’s no way I could know the answers too, was asked to provide the info I could have no access to. “Please, provide proof the furnace was installed by qualified personnel”. I’m the fourth owner in 20 years. Called 3 other insurers after with great, easy experiences. Goodbye Aviva.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Sending out a PSA

by Tristan Prince on Jan 19, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Sending out a PSA. Never ever go with RBC/Aviva insurance for any of your insurance needs. Over a decade I was treated with complete disrespect. The agent was incredibly rude, incompetent, unprofessional, would not listen to anything I said. Demanded I answer questions, told me I was lying to him. Cancelled my policy without my permission. Lost out on about $500 that they are refusing to reimburse me especially hard during Covid with less income. I’ve never been treated this way in my entire life. Apparently, all I’m entitled to be an $85 goodwill gesture. No thank you. Appalling customer service. They’ve listened to phone call recording and apologized but are apparently doing an internal investigation on the employee, which helps me 0. Congratulations for stealing from a family of their hard-earned money. Do not even give them a cent of your money. Atrocious company. Asked for a recording of the call but they refused to give it to me.
