They will absolutely scam you

I have been with TD car insurance for 1 year. My insurance started at around $1100/year. I did my advantage driving program and ended up getting such a high score that I would receive a 24% discount for the following years. I get my statement for this coming year, and my insurance went up to around $1400/year.

To me, I thought that they hadn’t put the 24% discount onto this number yet and that I had to call to get it activated. So I called, and come to find out, that the 24% discount was already applied and the final amount was $1400/year AFTER the discount.

This would mean, that If I did not have my 24% discount, my insurance premium would have gone up to $1900/year, a 60% increase from the year before. When I tried to explain that it must be an error, because increasing a premium by 60% (no claims in that year or tickets), they refused to acknowledge that the increase is 60% and stated that the increase is only 21%.

I’m no mathematician here, but going from $1100 to $1400 with a 24% discount already applied, is not 21%, but probably for legal reasons, they would not acknowledge the fact that they increased my premium by 60%.

Stay away at all costs. I guess being a super safe driver is not what they want, since they’ll hike up your premium if your advantage discount is too high.

The fact that they are causing this many issues and I haven’t even gotten in an accident or submitted a claim yet, is telling to what they will act like once I actually need their assistance. I’ll be shopping around for another insurance company. TD insurance is an absolute scam.

Horrible Experience

I bought the vehicle in August 2022, and the vehicle was bought privately. Two sets of tires (Summer and Winter) are coming with the vehicle. I set up the policy with TD for my vehicle, and when asked if I have winter tire installed during the Winter their question during giving me a quote
I answered "YES" because it is true, I have a winter tire and I will put it on when the winter comes. I have all the policies set up (I move all auto and house policies to TD). Everything was fine at the original setup. They gave me all discounts including the Winter tire discount. Then in September (a week later), they took the winter tire discount off and ask me to provide them either the winter tire bill of sale or the invoice that my car has a winter tire install. I made several calls to them to explain that I bought the vehicle privately and it is summer, and I couldn't install winter tires in Summer. After requesting to speak to the manager. The lady (manager) told me to take pictures of my car with the summer tires on the vehicle and winter tire sets as proof. I did taking the pictures and provided them.
After two months of calling them 7-8 calls, nothing happens. And now, they said they will not apply the discount because I don't have either the bill of sale or the invoice for installation. I requested I will submit the invoice when I install the winter tires next month. But I ask for all the extra fees I paid from Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov because no discount needs to reimburse back to me. Their response is NO, they don't reimburse, they only apply a discount at the time I submit the invoice for installation.
What pisses me off is, they said when they gave me the quote, they took my word that I have the winter tire, but they now say they can't take my picture as proof of having winter tire because I might be taking pictures of other people's tires.

Too expensive for their service

Their group discounts are more of a trap. They are more expensive than other quotes and when you get the group discounts it brings you to slightly more expensive than others. I cancelled all my policies with them for good and moved to another company.

App & Poor Customer Service

by Rachel Zerafa on Sep 2, 2021

I got the app last year to help lower my rates. I used it consistently for a year and was projected a 21% discount on my premium. When renewal came, I did the math myself and turns out I only received about a 10% reduction in my premium. I called support, waited on the phone for 30 minutes and when I explained it to the representative, even he had nothing to say. He said he’d forward my request to a manager and I’d hear within 48 hours. A MONTH later I received 2 missed calls in 2 days (no message left). Two weeks later, I got a letter saying there was information missing on my account. I call and was transferred to customer resolution who gaslit me telling me they only received my request a few weeks ago and left 2 messages and followed all procedures. The reason for the discrepancy is “normal” policy increases. If you can, steer clear of TD Insurance.

0 stars customer service

I called and waited 40 mins.
I called to discuss the renewal for the 3rd year with them.
Didn't get the discount promised if I use their app.
The agent had such a bad attitude and was so rude, that I decided:
"You know what, just cancel the policy (home and 2 cars)"

TD Insurance

TD Insurance is just a huge scam, PLEASE FINISH READING MY REAL PERSONAL STORY AS A NEW CUSTOMER, IT WILL 100% HELP YOU CHOOSE TO GO WITH THEM OR NOT. The only difference between it and a black shop on the street is they are bigger and have a longer wait time for you to get fed up and bare with the scam by force. Ever since I opened an account with TD Insurance as a customer, which I joined with my wife who has existing accounts with a car and home, I have to call three times and wait for 1.5hours each time to let their supervisor apply my deserved discounts that should be applied without calling, then after getting a mere 15% discount, then my wife begin to get letters from them every single month, simply with the title 'Change on your premiums' without telling us any details whatsoever in the letters, her premium before I even joined was around $1800, then after we called it applied a discount to $1500, we thought it finally over, then out of nowhere, she got the following letter a second month in notifying her new annual premium changed to little over $2000 all the sudden without us doing anything! Or being told by anything! What their customer service tells you or? I ended up losing more than what they promised to discount for. I'm regretting so much to switch from to TD.

Just disappointed!

I’ve been on hold for more than 3 hours for 6 times. Bought a new car and house and need to switch over insurance. I was eligible for using a group rate as I am a CPA student, but they denied that I could take advantage of this offer. They asked me irrelative questions!!! It was very frustrating. I just switched to a new friendly insurance company. TD lost its customer.

Misleaded me.

I got my policy in Feb and told them I am going to start my college in May, so they told me, for now, it will 290$ per month and once my college starts I need to give a call they will reduce to 222$ per month but they reduced only 6$ per month according to which is now $284 saying they can't reduce now it can be only done while getting the policy. And if I want to change to another company who is giving me less quote they will charge me around $280 penalty. Pathetic. Not at all professional.

AVOID

I have been with TD for over 20 years. We went from a 2 car family to a 1 car family. They jacked up my rates $ 600.00 per year on 1 car because I do not have a 2 car discount!

Pull your money out of TD

by biggus Dickus on Oct 18, 2018

If you have a TD bank account, then take your business to another bank. I have had similar experiences as posted here. No discount on App. The rate went up $190 the next year for no reason. It's as if their Ad agency, the board-room got together and said: "We'll give them the average rate the first year then screw them royally after that". TAKE MY ADVICE. Do not get TD insurance and if you have a TD bank account, switch banks !! I DID (the only way they will learn). TD, get out of the car business and fire your AD and APP agency, we are not suckers.
