I have been with this company for over 10 years with no problems until this year. I should say that 3 years ago I had an at-fault accident and having a clean record they said my rates will not go up... insurance forgiveness. However, this July my insurance went up 14%! I didn't want to believe what I was seeing so I called them for clarification. They said they had received more claims than normal last year so insurance went up for everyone. I tried to protest, why would it go up for me if I have been good for over ten years? Why 14 %? I even told them 5 or 6% was reasonable, not double? All cries went unanswered, instead, they offered to take 5% off if I download their drive app... record my driving habits. Exasperated I downloaded their app and took their offer as a good boy. Now I bought a bike that needs to be insured. I can't wait to talk to customer service.
Upon renewal my policy went from 69$ to over 90$ /mo.
I have no accident or claims history. Was with CDI since new vehicle was bought. Car was 23k, now less than 5k, why are my premiums higher than when it was brand new, and I was younger, less experienced? I have no demerits.
The agent told me premiums have increased for all drivers becauae of an increase in claims in "my category" last year? What category is that? The one where responsible drivers dont have any claims? Nonsense. I believe this is a result if their acquiring CDI and not having automatic consent to pull my credit bureau upon renewal. My credit history has no bearing on my driving. Ive always paid my insurance.
I requested to have a full accounting of exactly why my insurance increased to $90/mo.
The agent said she would see what she could do about that, no guarantee of return call, email or written explanation.
I will not be renewing with Belair.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Terrible experience. We dutifully drove with the automerit device in our car for a year and earned a 12% discount, only to have our rates jacked up 20% (without any accident/incidents) and end up paying more! This automerit program is a scam and we are VERY DISAPPOINTED with belairdirect
Was sold from Western bank, suddenly my premium was raised 30 percent for no reason. Explanation: they have a lot of claims. I don't have any
so bel air was sending me daily flyers saying theyre so much cheaper. used their online quote and yep,$850 a year! $1000 less than im paying. so I call them up give them my info and the rate goes up to $1400 because I have two tickets. no problem. 3 days go by, I literally have the insurance active for 12 hours and they call me up. I paid for the entire year up front,my mistake! now they want another $600 because "they verified that I received 2 tickets" um yea,the 2 I told you about. at $2000 a year that's more than I was paying!!! told them to cancel it and they reply by saying ok cancellation fee will be this much, you have to pay for the 12 hours etc etc.nope.fighting them now every way I can to get my money back. important to note that at no point have I been given a copy of the policy.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Got my renewal which went up for no reason over $60 a month... I went online and got a quote from the same company for $40 less a month. When I asked them about it and, of course, wanted the lower rate, I am told that I can't (the new policy has not started yet and they're offering a lower rate but only to new customers?) Absolutely ridiculous... just screw over the people who have been with you the longest - it is their policy...
First time to get additional coverage.
They ask how many tickets did i get within the last 5 years.
If it is more than 6 points, forget it!
Not 6 points per year, it is 6 points in 5 years!
So yeah, basically they just want a grandpa and grandma driver.
Dont even bother calling them.
Wasting time!
I recently became insured with belairdirect. This company is an absolute scam. They guaranteed me one price (which was significantly lower than my previous insurance company) so obviously I made the switch. Now in order for me to keep the original price they offered, I had to sign up to an "Automerit" app. However, upon looking into this app, it had horrible reviews and not one person had anything good to say. It was rated with only 1.4 stars out of 5. I decided not to download this app since the reviews and ratings were subpar. This month I received my new payment plan and my insurance is actually going up an extra $15.00 a month. How can a company penalize you because you don't want to download an app that is complete garbage and lacks quality, This is completely unfair and an absolute scam. I suggest belairdirect fixes their app and explains this merit point system a little bit more in detail.
Very friendly and helpful customer service. Best prices in town I saved 600 annually when switching to Belair.
I have been with Canadian Direct Insurance for 15 years (Alberta) without any issues until it was changed to BelairDirect. Since then the premium had gone up a bit in the last couple years (that's acceptable as an inflation adjustment). I used to have 3 vehicles for 2 drivers with full coverage for the last 15 years (of course over the years older cars were replaced by newer cars but the premium had been consistent with moderate adjustment year over year). As of Aug, the total premium was around $2500/year. In Sept, I added my daughter as the principal driver to one of the vehicles with the same coverage. As expected premium went up to $4300/year but no problem since an inexperienced driver was added to the policy so I must pay more (1800/year more). My daughter is now (Oct) studying in Vancouver so I bought her another car in Vancouver with a separate policy purchased under her name (total 3700/year). Then I called BeairDirect to remove my daughter from the Alberta policy. The total premium was only reduced to 3890 from 4300. What? the premium for the same 3 vehicles with the same coverage for the same 2 drivers now was increased from 2500/year to 3890/year? The operator on the line was not helpful at all but just kept telling me the adjusted monthly payment I have to make. I told her I would call another auto insurance to get a quote and would switch. She promised a supervisor would call me back but never happened. After a 15-minute talk with another auto insurance, I got a quote of 3106/year for the same coverage, plus a home insurance premium reduction of $200 on my existing home insurance as a discount of having both auto and home insurance with them.
