I had full coverage and I was hurt in a collision, they didn't give me a rental 'cause they said until the investigation is over they can't do anything. It's been 2 months and still no rental and reimbursement for my vehicle. I can't get to work and am gonna lose my house soon. My adjuster keeps making up every excuse in the book. This is what I got for getting full insurance from this company.
Everything was great until I've got in a not-at-fault accident.
They refused to pay my repair ( scratched fender + right headlight + bent hood ) and wrote-off my car.
They offered me 1/2rd of the car value, quoting a similar garbage car found around Edmonton. I'm in Toronto, .
In the previous year I've replaced $2000+ worth of car parts: tires, shock absorbers, alternator, timing belt. When I've emailed the invoiced they increased my car value by $300 or so.
Not sure how other insurance companies behave in an accident, but definitely I don't want to hear of them anymore.
My 2 cents.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Save yourself the stress and get insurance from a different provider even if it costs more money. Any company would be better than this one to deal with if you have to file a claim for a not at fault accident. My car was deemed a total loss, it took over a month and numerous un-returned phone calls and getting angry to get a settlement payment for the car. They are still flat out refusing to cover costs for physio and psych which is much needed therapy recommended by two doctors due to it being a fatal accident. I cancelled my policies with them except for tenant insurance and was told I'd have to pay $56 outstanding, today they took $303 out of my account with no authorization, not even 3 days after receiving a letter saying they are charging me $278 with no explanation as to why the amount changed or anything. As if I'm not having a difficult enough time with dealing with all the mental stress and trauma due to this accident, they are now taking money that I didn't OK for them to take. I can't say enough bad things about this company, there are too many to list, go elsewhere for insurance or pray to god you never have to file a claim for anything with them.
Truck was stolen, Turned up on the reserve, Totaled. Appraiser came out, a week and a half later, way undervalued my 4x4 truck , he provides only one vehicle as his "market research" and says that's what its worth. I provide vehicle pictures ,service and repair receipts and provide 6 ads of comparable vehicles from kijiji and auto trader. They don't even look at it !!!
They then send me a letter saying essentially "your vehicle is worth this" siting no evidence or research* and also say they are refusing to pay for storage cost and I only had a rental for 2 weeks!! They are rude, short and hard to understand. They yell at me and refuse to look at the information I have provided. Currently It's only been a month since the theft but now the insurance company just sent me a letter with no prior notice that They will not be covering the storage fee. I had my vehicle stolen and they treat me like the criminal even after all the premium I paid. This insurance company should be barred from insuring in Ontario
Please !! Stay away from Desjardins....I was with them for 7 years. In 2013, I had an accident with my BMW. They denied my claim because airbag didnt deploy or my engine was leaking oil or I was turning from the wrong street. It's been a long litigation. I am as the time of this post fighting in Quebec court to make my case heard. Worst Worst Expereince of my life. They take your money so easily and treat you like criminal.
They want to know where I got the money from to buy the car. Who borrowed me money. They ask to see the receipt, every transaction paper trail...my phone bill to see if i arrange the accident with the other driver...OOhhh.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Worst experience ever. Do not go with Desjardins. They will leave you hanging. From my own experience. Claim is still open after 3 months. I so fed up I’m going to care of my vehicle myself and pay expenses myself. This is insurance is junk and scammers. They did not even cover the rental car on full coverage policy. I am going and my 3 friends all cancelling the policy with them!!! Adjusters are very bad to whom I contacted with. Basically, they will not pay a penny!!!! Do not take Desjardins to be your insurance please. Find something else!!!
Our neighbors toddler while having a tantrum threw her bottle of milk over the balcony. The bottle landed on our windshield, smashing it. The neighbor was very apologetic and offered to pay all the expenses, including the deductibles. When I told the insurance agent about this, he said he doesn't care - he did his job of fixing the windshield. In the meantime, we still ended up with 250$ bill. After years of appalling service we tried to cancel the insurance with them and Desjardins is charging us cancellation fees! What a bunch of crooks!
My car was hit while parked by a drunk driver. The police got the drunk driver and submitted all the papers and testimony to our insurance company. Of course, the accident was not our fault. However, Desjardins was insisting that there was no proof that it really was the drunk driver who hit our car - they had to wait until they got the court judgement confirming it really was that driver who hit our car.
Meanwhile, our car was parked at a garage (charging us about 30$ a day), even if it was a complete loss and scrap material - Desjardins insisted we kept it (and not to throw it away for scrap), so there was still proof of the accident. About 2 and a half months later, after many lawsuit threats, screams, and compulsive calling to them, they agreed to compensate us the 'value' of our car, which of course was super underpriced, and most of it went to pay for the parking fees we had accumulated (about 2500$).
total scam, and no one can/is doing anything about it! laws protect insurance crooks
This company has made over 5 mistakes in Billing over the course of 2 years, in which they've had to be credits my NSF fees due to their own acknowledgement of having messed up.
Speaking to a customer service representative, you have to be very specific for them to make notes about what you spoke about as they will not follow through with what they've said... It's very strange how such a big company can make so many errors. They don't listen to customers at all.
Switching companies also saved me $80/month for an 08 Land Rover driven in Toronto.
Insurers beware, there are better insurance companies out there.
I've been through 2 not-at-fault claims with Desjardins and I have had no issued. They paid for a rental the next day and told me where to go to get my car fixed. Service was easy and quick. I have been with Desjardins for 7 years.
I don't know what all of the reviews here are complaining about. You blame provincial legislation roadblocks on the insurance company!
This will happen with EVERY INSURANCE COMPANY! So learn how insurance works before blaming good companies for your own ignorance
YES, if you tell them you had an accident they will raise your rates (even if they don't pay anything)
YES, if you don't get the other driver's information you're responsible for your own claim!
NO, you will not get your windshield replaced without a deductible.
