The Pharmacy I attend raised their dispensing fees back in January by 1 dollar.
My Group Benefits with Sun Life state 100% coverage without any noted limitations like "up to and including".
Sun Life will not recognize the dollar increase and are forcing me to pay. I know, it's only one dollar, but that's not the point to us it? Next year it might be two, etc.
Currently, in short term disability due to surgery. Lost wages claim felt like a lot of delay, with numerous "we need more information from your doctor" and "we need some clarification from your doctor". Not outside the realm of possibility, just having multiple responses of this kind makes me think, either my doctor is a fool or Sun Life dragged its heals.
When I return to work, I am putting serious thought into leaving group benefits and going back to our previous group benefits provider in a private basis. Already acquired quotes and they look favorable.
Waiting 5 months on a claim decision. Absolutely ridiculous and caused my family to declare bankruptcy.
I had worked with a company that I will not disclose. Sun Life sent me a letter with my investment total as I was leaving the company I worked for. The withdrawal fee on the letter I received stating my investment total and my options was 25$. Googled the withdrawal service fee after the transaction took place and it even stated 25$. The lady had charged me 75$ for the withdrawal fee. And on top of that. In the two days that it took to process. My investment dropped by 20 dollars. Not a lot but that's 70 dollars that one of their workers had probably just pocketed. Make sure you know the proper information before dealing with them. They took advantage of me because I misplaced the letter I received.
Salesperson completely disappeared after we said we wanted a lower premium and coverage. Luckily for us, that meant we went with another broker and got even lower rates.
She was knowledgeable but this kind of work ethic makes me question Sun Life as a company.
The person passed away before Sun life Insurance sent the payments to her. So according to the policy, they have to pay 30 times the monthly amount to the surviving spouse or, if there is no live spouse, to their single children under 21. Well, she had a spouse and Sun Life insurance only paid 6 times the monthly amount she was entitled to received. We are still going back and forth with them trying to make them pay
Thinking of getting a life insurance quote from an insurance agent? They work for one insurance company and can only sell the products of that company. That may not result in the best rate for you. Our insurance brokers compare life insurance quotes across 20+ Canadian insurers for you.
You pay into a policy and then when you decide to take money out, it takes FOREVER. Should anyone have to suffer?
1. Submit the forms
2. Get the tax forms
3. Return the required forms
4. Wait -- several weeks!
5. Call their information number to find out about your check
6. Navigate through innumerable prompts
7. Service person says that there is ONLY one person who handles surrenders that involve the U.S.
8. Leave message for that person. (She is not there.)
9. Get return call from this person almost a day later. I am not in, so she leaves a message and tells me that she is about to leave for the day so will call you tomorrow.
10. Tomorrow NO call. (repeat steps 5 through 8)
11. Finally talk to right person. She has not even looked at the forms that were submitted.
12. Wait 10 days for check to be issued
Well, we hope that step 12 actually happens!
My agent is great. She gets back to me in a timely basis. I can't say that about the people in the claims department though. When my father passed away a few years ago one department was great and then you had to deal with another department. It was like they didn't communicate with each other or have access to the same information.

I had group benefits offered via my employer which were terminated. Sun Life got the date wrong so they cut my online access for medical, but not dental. I spoke with over 10 agents before reaching out to HR. It's a hassle dealing with Sin Life and I can guarantee you will need to call in at least 4 times before settling a simple claim.
