AVOID. AT ALL COSTS.....The absolute worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. Different answers to the same questions from different people. They do not care in the least about your interests. Next to impossible to communicate with. Extreme lack of knowledge pertaining to their industry. As you can see by their overall rating on many review sites, am I not alone in my judgement. You get the idea. Do yourself a favour and don't waste your valuable time on this company.
I am baffled as to how this company stays in business. They are very antiquated with few online services, seeming to rely mainly on letters for communication. They claimed to have called as well, but either a representative put in the wrong number or that's false. Anyway, we were notified via letter that we didn't have all of the proper documentation for our insurance (this is 6 months into our policy) to satisfy regulations. Baffled, we contacted the customer service e-mail to fix the error. The insurance was canceled anyway, the company saying we had until the 2nd to fix the issue and time had passed. I have the physical letter that clearly said until the 12th. Canceled anyway, and I was berated on the phone by a representative that said they had tried to contact me several times and it was therefore our fault. We paid in full, have no accidents, no claims, a clean driving record, and Ontario driver's licenses. Yet they still canceled out of the blue and refused to salvage our account. They also made no attempt to refund until I complained. I don't know how they manage to stay in business when they treat customers like that, and miss out on $800 they have to refund (hopefully - I am still waiting). Avoid this company like the plague. While they offer discounts, their services are terrible, and now we're stuck with this record saying we were non-compliant as we shop for other insurance, even though we had perfect insurance records before. It's ridiculous and the strangest, most awful experience I've had with an insurance company. It's like they outright didn't want our business.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
They are the worst I have been trying to cancel my car insurance over two years. They don't communicate via email so I have have to take time of work to wait hours to try and get someone on the phone who has authorization. Then when I speak to a number of people they tell me oh they are missing this form or that signature. Seriously they should not be allowed to sell insurance or work with the public. I am so angry and feel so mistreated by this company... THE WORST !!!
I was trying to get a quote for insurance and I was waiting for 10 minutes. I thought because I had previously used TD that it would be easier, but after waiting the agent informed me that I had not paid 20.00 and there would be interest on that from the last year. When I asked why or how much the new quote is they hung up on me! Obviously they are out sourcing this call centre somewhere people feel uncomfortable selling their scam insurance. I expect better from a Canadian company.
I was with TD Meloche Monnex for just over a year (house and auto). When I first signed with them I was happy as the rate was the lowest I could find. $205/mth for auto and $98 for house. I got my G licence within this year and expected my rate to decrease since I had no accidents, no tickets, no claims and I got my full G licence. I got my renewals in the mail and I was shocked to see that my auto had increased over $1000 a year. Auto insurance was now $294 and home insurance was hiked up to $118 per year. I called to find out why, thinking this could only be a mistake. The person on the phone told me there was no explanation except maybe all rates had gone up. She tried to keep me as a customer by telling me that if I had winter tires I would get a huge discount. Once she told me what the discount was (a measly $160 a year or something stupid) I laughed. They increased my auto insurance over a year, but would now give me a discount for having winter tires of $168. laughable. I shopped around and found another company that is charging less than when I first started with TD. I was told by one broker that a trick TD uses to get customers is to offer them a much lower rate at first but then on renewal, they increase it to make up for the lower premium they offered you at the beginning. Scammers!

I just cancelled my insurance today after being with TD for 2 years. They charged me exactly $375.68 for 11 days of coverage when my monthly payments were only $267.84. I never made one claim, I have a clean driving record with no traffic tickets and my only downfall is living in Brampton. I found a cheaper rate with better coverage from Desjardins Insurance. TD has no loyalty and they are competitive only in your first year, so you're better off switching after your year is up. Talking to the service agents on the phone and asking how $375 for 11 days was hilarious... Insurance companies are a scam unless you make a claim or for those that choose to scam them first. If you have a clean record and find a better price somewhere else - be prepared to get stiff-armed by a company that is purely "profits before people".
