Terrible

by Edmonton gal on Jul 6, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Was in a no-fault claim. Car wrote off because they valued car incorrectly comparing to the wrong vehicle. After three days told to return rental per 'my' policy, even though other insurance covered it. No car for months, as a result, lost a job, missed mortgage payment, no access to the grocery store as live 35 minutes from town. 2 months isolated without transportation. TD would not advocate for me or cover me and this was after 30 years of paying into car insurance with no claims.

Profits before people

by People Helping People on May 3, 2018
1.5 out of 5 stars

I just cancelled my insurance today after being with TD for 2 years. They charged me exactly $375.68 for 11 days of coverage when my monthly payments were only $267.84. I never made one claim, I have a clean driving record with no traffic tickets and my only downfall is living in Brampton. I found a cheaper rate with better coverage from Desjardins Insurance. TD has no loyalty and they are competitive only in your first year, so you're better off switching after your year is up. Talking to the service agents on the phone and asking how $375 for 11 days was hilarious... Insurance companies are a scam unless you make a claim or for those that choose to scam them first. If you have a clean record and find a better price somewhere else - be prepared to get stiff-armed by a company that is purely "profits before people".

No advantage for MyAdvantage

by Reviewer on Apr 14, 2018
1.5 out of 5 stars

I have been with TD Insurance for over 30 years. The drive habit TD My Advantage requires is way beyond what normal rule-abiding drivers would do, even observing the speed limit 100% of the time and turning corners accelerate and decelerate carefully. What is more horrible is that you lose data for no apparent reason. I recently received an email from TD telling me I had not been using my app for a while. But we use the car about 2-3 trips every week! We have 2 drivers and each is required to drive 1000 KM before qualifying. At this rate of losing data, they can easily disqualify us, after we drive as if there was a sword over our heads, scared to be penalized. I have driven for 6 months and I did not know how many KMs I had driven until I was told the accumulated mileage was only 123 KM! What?! I had one trip that exceeded 123 KM alone! But what can you do? The app does NOT even give you the total mileage driven! You are basically putting blind faith on this app and hoping a fair recording. WRONG. I have seen nothing fair so far! The app won't even tell you how many accumulated mileage you have. You have to call in to check! So basically, it's their words vs no words. Then the data saved on my cell phone failed to upload (even though it shows clearly on my cellphone and we have not changed any setting). We had to reinstall the program losing yet another 6 days of mileage, still not sure downloading actually solved the problem! (Until we check in). Good Grief! To be fair, you do receive a 5% discount signing up for the My Advantage program. Expect little more than the 5% you get. Don't let the app discount notes fool you! You won't get it. The anxiety and unhappiness this program brings to our family are making us lose trust in the program and the TD Insurance company.

Cancelling insurance

by Kelsea B. on Jul 18, 2017
1.5 out of 5 stars

We had insurance with this company for 2 years. We had no issues in our 2 years with them, they were awesome when we moved to BC....until we cancelled our policy to obtain insurance in BC.

We called to cancel. They never told us of any additional costs or final balances, I actually have a letter from them stating that there were no additional amounts owing. We left it and went on our way.

3 months down the road we get a letter from a collection agency saying our account has been assigned to them for an owing of $274.
They never once tried to get a hold of us by phone, by letter, by email.... anything to inform is of this money owing. To say we were blindsided is an understatement. We called numerous times and was refused answers on WHY we owe this amount. Asked the manager for a copy of a statement of what the owing was for. No one would do anything and told us to deal with the collection agency.

I would never use them again and I sure as heck wouldn't suggest them to anyone I know.

Worst claim process ever

by Baffled on Apr 25, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

The vehicle was recovered by Calgary police when they arrested the perp driving the vehicle and charged with theft under 5,000. The vehicle was impounded where it seemed to have been forgotten by the insurance company.

It took a year of constant calls and emails to the insurance adjustors. Adjustor finally paid 3,100 for the vehicle even though I had bought that vehicle for $4500 just weeks prior to theft and had provided pictures showing the condition of the vehicle. Their first offer was $2600. During the one year to settle this claim they paid $15,000 in storage and towing. If this was my only vehicle, how would I have gotten to work or lived?

Unfortunately this review won't accept zero stars therefore I had to rate them a one.

Interestingly the Insurance Ombudsman indicated that they were trying to push the claim past one year so they would not have to pay it.

(lackof) TD Problem Resolution

by DissatisfiedTDClient on Mar 2, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

My accident occurred on December 2nd, 2016. There were issues with my vehicle once repairs were complete at the beginning of January. I have made several attempts to contact my claims adjuster, along with his colleague since January 5th, 2017. I have not received any responses from either individual.

Then, I receive a generic 'Closing Notice' in the mail dated January 30, 2017.

I attempted to present my problem to a manager on two separate occasions (February 24th and February 28th). In both instances, Claims Advisors assured me that a supervisor/manager will be in contact with me within 48 hours. No one has contacted me in either instance following the 48 hours.

I contacted the automobile claims department once again and spoke with a Senior Claims Advisor. She looked into my file and advised that the manager assigned to my claim, could no longer be reached.

My problem remains unresolved.

Inhumane and bad experience

by Upset and frustrated on Feb 22, 2017

My ex-husband and I separated and I called TD telling them my new address and that if he made any changes to the auto insurance, to let me know. I was driving the car at the time. I found that my ex husband called and cancelled the policy over the phone and the cancellation letter was sent to his friend's address which was not on file. I called TD by chance and they apologized that they have in fact gone ahead and cancelled it because my ex husband said he sold the car. I had to send them the car registration with my name and tell them again that I had the car. They said that they would have covered me in the event of an accident if I had been driving without knowledge of my cancelled policy but they won't cover me now since I'm aware. I told them to mail me the cancellation letter but they haven't done so over a month. They can't tell me who they mailed it to and any details of conversation they had with my ex-husband even though they established that he was lying and endangered me and our 1year old child because of driving without insurance. Such a headache dealing with them. They don't answer my calls anymore. I m not going back to them.

rip off and suck

by Mahmoud Mourra on Dec 14, 2016

So TD Insurance after ripping us off for more than 12 years, and increasing their premium, their last tactic if you want to add another car to your policy, you need to provide a registration before they give you insurance.
How stupid is that I don't know, I guess TD insurance want to walk away from every client who lives in the North East, or Airdrie, because all the hail storm that happening in this area.
Advice for everyone if you are with any of the TD insurance companies, call another insurance provider, and you will be amazed how much you will be saving.
If you have any bad experience with TD Insurance, please share so we all know we need to expose them, personally, I was able to find out few unbelievable stories who bad they are, rejecting hail damage claim, and so on.
Took me 15 years to figure out TD Insurance is suck.

Same repair 3 times badly.

by Blubaru on Dec 5, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

This vehicle is a 2015 Subaru Forester XT pearl blue colour with only 9,300KM (approx. 5,600 miles) on it and it is in excellent condition other than the improperly done repair work.

The damage to the rear bumper cover caused by a hit and run, while the car was parked, was very minor but it required a replacement bumper cover due to the black textured portion being scuffed which, if that hadn't occurred, would not have needed a new bumper cover.

Took it to the "preferred shop" which painted the bumper cover the wrong shade of colour, it was too dark which was very noticeable and devalued the vehicle further and much greater than the accident damage cause. The vehicle was sent back to fix the problem but came back with the problem extended to both side's rear quarter panels by spraying them the colour of the improperly coloured rear bumper cover and there was overspray on the driver's side front and rear doors and the paint had orange peel. The vehicle was sent back to a different location of the "preferred" body shop which did a better paint job, no orange peel and the overspray problem was almost completely eliminated (there's still a little left) but the improper colour was extended even further along the sides of the rear of the car and, because of improper masking there's a line of paint forming a continuous line along the black portion of the bumper cover. Also, there's a stainless steel protection plate along the top of the rear bumper cover that was improperly installed, it has 3 places along the edge where it is puckered and not stuck to the bumper cover. As well, the rear mud flap on the passenger side is not tight against the rear side of the car at the wheel well. The bumper cover is not quite plumb with the tail lights, it is protruding a bit out on the passenger side under the tail light trim whereas on the other side it is slightly in under the tail light trim. That was the 3rd attempt to remediate the problem caused by the first repair attempt now they want to try a 4th time at a totally different body shop. We met the insurance company rep and the body shop owner and had a discussion but my wife and I have no confidence that the improperly painted repair will be remedied back to the OEM colour it should be. There's no guarantee that the paint colour of the repair will ever be done correctly, and there may be other problems such as described in the 3rd repair attempt or more than that. There's a lot more to this than what I've written but I can't deal with writing more about it. We are now dealing with the insurance company's customer service department but, considering what has occurred, we are not hopeful of a satisfactory resolution.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Stole money for two years

by Mohammed on Jul 20, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

As insurance companies work mostly over he phone, the lack of transparency, follow up, communications and integrity is sorely lacking at Meloche Monnex. I was a customer for over two years and paid $120 monthly, I was told that I had the comprehensive coverage yet this month for He first time I called about two small items, my windshield that has stone chips from the highway and a scratch from someone vandalizing my car by keying the side of the body. After numerous transfers, voicemails, promises of managers calling back and wrong as well as conflicting information being provided every time I call- I decided to cancel my insurance policy with TD. They do not care about the customer at all. They did not acknowledge their error whatsoever. They stuck to the script and each person would repeat that I was sent insurance policy by mail and henceforth it was my fault all along. It doesn't matter to them that they have made a mistake and that they should at the very least apologize and try to retain the customer. They have completely alienated and upset me because they are thieves. TD should be sued for their business practices.
