We have five (5) policies with this company and our only complaint so far is that we cannot reach them at any of the numerous phone numbers provided. The phone calls are dropped after waiting 1/2 hour and/or the wait time is one, two or more hours, every time we call. They do not offer a call back service. I hope we never have to make a claim. I am very disappointed with the service, and I am actively looking for a new provider as I type this review.
After a 25 year clean driving record and over 10 years with this company I made the mistake of calling them to say that is backed into a post and wanted to know what my deductible would be and how it would affect my premiums. They could tell me only what my deductible was. They couldn't tell me how it would affect my premiums because that isn't calculated until renewal???? I say fine, I'll leave it and pay for the repairs myself. That's when she said that it would still show up on my record as an at fault accident. I went up the monkey chain a couple of levels and got the same canned reply. One supervisor thought that maybe the premiums wouldn't go up that much if I didn't complete the claim. This outfit is a ripoff. They suck you in with big alumni discounts and then jack up their prices yearly. Don't ever use them.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
TD Meloche Monnex simply didn't take out my June premiums (via PAD), so I call and ask why (and try to pay of course), they said it was an error in their payment processor and that I would have to mail them a certified cheque or pay with a visa. I chose the visa method because it was simply easier. My insurance was $141 a month (also the amount owing) and they ended up taking $937 (in three separate payments) off my credit card. I was furious. Called back several times and got the run around (one call was 2hrs and 32mins no joke!). They said the money would be returned to my Visa in 3 days and when it got refunded to await a call from them with instructions on how to repay (weird?). 14 days later the money appears on my Visa. 14 days. I call in to square up my policy as I'm worried about possible cancellation they say don't worry we will take it out again. The day of my PAD (July) comes and goes and they don't take it out again! I've now made about 12 calls to them and decide its time to create a paper trail. I sent them a fax detailing what has happened, who I spoke with, the dates, everything. I still get no call back! HOWEVER... they send me a $25 Tim Hortons gift card via mail with an apology. Next day I get a registered letter saying my policy has been cancelled due to non-payment... say what?
I'm freaking out. I've done nothing wrong. I call in for an explanation, they say don't worry your policy is fine and to disregard the letter. I get another registered letter saying my renewal has been cancelled as my policy was terminated. I call back and they say I haven't had insurance since July 1st and to NOT DRIVE. I miss a few days of work cause of this, my financing company politely informs me that if my car isn't insured I must surrender the plates or face repossession. I call TD Meloche Monnex back and literally say "how much money do you want right now to fix this? I've done everything you've asked me to do..." They say there is nothing they can do and my policy has been cancelled due to non-payment. What!?
I call another company for a quote so that my car doesn't get repo'd and so I can go to work and live life (even though I've done everything TD asked). The new company says that they will gladly insure me (I've never been ticketed or even pulled over in 9 years of driving), however my abstract shows a cancellation from TD due to non payment. I call TD back they say I have to just "deal with it and to call another company..." (are you kidding me?)
This incorrect black mark on my abstract makes my new premium about $282 a month (from $141 a month) I am furious. I call a lawyer for advice, she sends a letter to cease and desist the incorrect report to my abstract and advises me to contact the Financial Services Commission of Ontario's official complaint officer listing for Meloche Monnex who is listed as: Sid Nightingale (at https://www5.fsco.gov.on.ca/Licensing/ComplaintsOfficerListing/eng/lede…)
If anyone else is having the same problems I highly suggest you follow the same action I took. The next day I visited a broker to help (and face this new false reality of being a high-risk driver, even though I've never even been pulled over) and he said the black mark on my abstract was "magically" removed overnight. Someone from TD was scheduled to call me also on this day and didn't. Sid called me back 2 days later and left a message saying he sent my complaint back into the "client services" department, even though the reason why I called him was because this had escalated so far.
I have a feeling they realized the mistake and just tried to cover it up (sweep it under the rug) without admitting any fault or apologizing. I am now with a broker paying $21 less a month and my abstract says that TD reported my policy as being cancelled by me and no trace of a non-payment black mark. Sounds fishy. I'm just thankful this mess is over.
If you value your time, money, and stress levels..... STAY AWAY FROM MELOCHE MONNEX. They are a complete and utter joke of a company. I was driving without insurance for a month without any notice of cancellation (even though they helped themselves to almost 6x the money from my Visa!). I crossed the US/Canada border 3 times in this period and drove about 700km. Imagine I got into an accident? Or my car stolen? I always think about this and it scares me. Thank god and GOODBYE TD MELOCHE MONNEX! They are right when they say your best insurance is a broker.. I had a new policy the next day and they didn't even ask for any money until next month! I will be mailing the TimCard back to TD :)
These guys charge WAY too much for what they offer. Renewal time came around this year and my policy went up 50% higher than the competition. I received renewal documents and ignored them as I did not want to renew, and I had not given them my banking information. I payed for 1 year with credit card. When my renewal came up, I looked for alternatives.
Months later I receive a letter saying I now owe them $120 which is half of my new coverage, for 3 months of coverage. Calling them up to debate this ends with me learning they can just auto renew my contract without me signing a damn thing, and charge me a huge cancellation fee without any notice what so ever.
Stay the hell away from these guys.
I’ll be 45 in less than a month; I got my licence when I was 17; I’ve never been in an accident, and have a spotless record; not even a traffic ticket in almost 30 years of driving. For most of my life, I was part of a family bundle, got a good discount on my rate, and was very happy paying about $90 a month. Well, all of THAT changed when everyone but my sister (who doesn’t drive and obviously who wasn’t part of the family bundle) decided to move out of the province. And how!!
It just so happened that I was in the process of purchasing a used vehicle at the same time my family was preparing to move. So, instead of being able to shop around, I decided that the best and quickest way for me to obtain the vehicle was to just purchase a new policy (which I was going to have to do anyway) with the same insurance company.
So, after 57 minutes and 33 seconds (as per the time my phone shows how long it took), and a whole rigamarole of questions, as well as a few glowing remarks about how impeccable my driving record was (while continually trying to sell me on a stupid app. which actually tracks your driving, speed, etc.,), out pops the number of more than $3,800 per year!! I was actually stunned and flabbergasted by the number! How is it possible that I go from paying merely $90 a month on some family plan/bundle to paying almost 4 times that amount?!?! It’s sickening!
But what could I do? I wanted the vehicle as soon as possible (because it was a very nice vehicle!), and the dealership, I’m sure, wanted it off its lot as soon as possible, to make room for more inventory. So, I just had to pull the trigger at that point, and after almost an hour on the phone. So, instead of being excited to actually get my new ride, I was furious and shocked over the price of insurance, which had somehow ruined the great experience of owning an extremely nice new (used) vehicle!!
However, even though I’m going to have to pay this month’s fee, you better
BUH-LIIIEEEVE I’ll be switching insurance companies as soon as I’ve shown proof of insurance and secured the vehicle! Like, $3,800 a year with a spotless record for almost 30 years is highway robbery! And yes, that pun was intended!
So far I’ve been quoted $1,900 per year and $249.33 per month with other companies. I also realize that these are just quotes and that there are a lot more moving pieces involved with getting a more accurate rate, but I’m certain that I’ll be able to find a rate much better than $3,000 per year somewhere else. Therefore, my recommendation is to stay away from this insurance company unless you too want to be the fuel of rage!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
We had the misfortune to have our car struck by an elderly driver who drove through a red light. Our car was deemed too damaged to be repaired, and was written off. We were forced to accept a settlement for 2/3 the demonstrated replacement value of the car. Now, two months later, we are still struggling to compell TD to stop pulling money from our account for insurance for the damaged car we no longer own. TD bought the wreck from us... it's their car now. TD's agents say there is nothing they can do to stop the withdrawals. The struggle continues.
No accident, no claim for over a decade, just a simple call to update address they raised premium by 30%. Multiple calls to talk to a supervisor but no success, false promises of supervisor calling back in 2 days but they won't call you. In the process of moving to another Insurer. I was advised by our lawyer before not to insure with them as their services are not good now I experience it.
I used them for two years and in the third year I couldn't pay the annual fee at once, I paid $1000 Canadian dollars, but they still went ahead and cancelled my insurance and state that I paid late, and they will refund my money back. But up until this date, they have not refunded me. I tried calling the customer representative always says that they are working on it this August will make it two years. I am just curious if anyone has the same experience please advise.
For absolutely no reason, my insurance rates got up by 80% at renewal with TD Meloche Monnex. Have been a client with them for 25 years.
Changed to another Insurance for the same rate I had previously.
Not a great way to retain clients TD…
The worst customer service experience ever! Every time I called I had to wait 2 hours. The agents always hung up the line and I always had to call back and wait the 2-hour queue. So unreliable. I had a claim issue. They never kept me posted with the claim.
