Terrible customer service

Today I was simply calling in to inquire about a quote for a new car I am considering purchasing. I was put on hold for nearly 20 minutes and transferred to a very foreign-sounding man. He began threatening me that if I switched my address to Burlington, I would be charged extremely more. This is after a 10+ year completely clean driving record and moving to Canada’s safest city. I then asked to be transferred back to TD Melosh Monnex and left the phone on his desk instead of transferring me. I am finding a new car insurance provider along with my family. These are a bunch of people trying to sell you on higher instances plans. Figure it out professionalism, integrity and ethics TD.

What's happened to TD Mel Mon?

by Dr. Jesse Smith on May 8, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I've had my house and auto insurance with them for 25 years maybe more. In all that time I've had one auto claim some 11 years ago and no home claims. I was not at fault but my car was totalled. The claim was settled satisfactorily with speed and politeness. Nor did my rates go up beyond the usual creepage. A recent matter, not even involving a claim, has made me decide to leave this company. I had to purchase a car out of the province of my residence when my old one was beyond reasonable repair costs. First, they told me the maritime branch could still insure me but with a 60 % premium. I was willing to pay because it would only be for a few months. Then they came back and said they could not insure me and that I would have to be insured by their Ontario branch. That auto insurance was 85% more than I had been paying. Because they do not consider the Ontario and Maritme branches the same company and my home was insured with the Maritime branch my house insurance also went up 18%. I was not pleased but again considered it a temporary matter until I had my plates changed back in several months. I decided I would change insurance companies if they did not return me to close to the previous status quo to both house and auto. I asked them to send the policies to a temporary mailing address for me to review. But they got the address wrong. So I had to phone them to correct that and make sure future mailings went to my home address. Tried a couple of times but I could not wait more than 15 minutes to get a person. Then one day I got to a person within minutes... By not listening, just like the individual who did not get the address right, she turned what should have been a simple matter into something very complicated. She kept cutting me off and would not let me speak my mind. She had the gall to threaten to hang up if I did not calm down when she was the one escalating matters. I should have said, "You know what? It doesn't matter. I'll be changing insurance companies in the next few months," and then hung up. They'll be losing a good client. Never any problems with payment and only one claim in 25 years. She was the straw in a series of events. I do not want to be insured by a company that employs someone like her. She's a bully with psychological issues; the need to be right and a lack of genuine empathy. (I have a Ph.D. in psychology and worked in a psychiatric facility). They also lost my father a few years back. He never made any claims. But they were making mistakes with billing and he got tired of calling them up after they kept making the same mistakes over and over again.

Suspicious

I had a quote with TD Meloche Monnex a few days ago. The quote took 40 minutes because system issues. After this time I was told that since I did not graduate from a university or college, I cannot insure with them. Then they transferred me. An hour later a manager calls me from a private number, says if I email him $500, I can use McMaster rates. I emailed him 3 days ago but no callback. I called back and asked to speak to him and the guy said the manager is not in the office. I lost my money please help.

Be Careful what they quote u!

1. When I replied to the email that I got the Insurance confirmation from asking to change something, I never got any reply! The confirmation was only a table including the basic information only in their own terminology and did not have any clarification of anything in detail on top of that it had wrong information about the lessee! 2. When I later called and asked to send me a copy of the terms and conditions or the contract that I am signing in order to commit financially, I was told that the system doesn’t do that and that I have to accept everything we talked about verbally and I should not see what is excluded in the contract and on top of that if I cancel, mid-term or even when the mail comes to see the contract, I will be paying one month cancellation fee and the agents didn’t care about anything and he said he’ll be happy helping me cancel right now before the policy starts. I have asked for a manager and the manager just simply repeated what he said and then told me this is the rule here, it’s only a verbal quotation, this is how things work in this company! This is neither ethical nor professional. I am very disappointed with a big company like this behaving in such a bad scammy way!!

TD-The biggest liar in Toronto

by sara210 on Nov 9, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

TD insurance is the biggest liar in Toronto. Stay away from them if possible. They can constantly increase your quote and charge extra when activating/setting up your account. I have to stuck with them for a year, and won't stay with them afterward. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BILL , ESPECIALLY FOR NEW CUSTOMERS USING TD ADVANTAGE APP. THEY WILL CHARGE EXTRA AND STEAL YOUR MONEY. We just relocated to Toronto a month ago, and shopped around for auto insurance. It seemed that TD insurance can provide us the reasonable rate so far since we had been staying with TD insurance for a few years outside Ontario and have a clean driving record. So we asked them to send a hard copy of the quote. When the mail arrived, the quote was around $150 higher than the one we quoted on the phone. So I called back, one of the agents told me that her co-worker made a mistake on our previous quote (lower rate). Excuse me! I said I thought your guys are professionals and asked to talk with her supervisor. The agent asked me to hold on, it turned out that she hanged out my phone. She was so rude that I tried to complain about what happened to me with their supervisor's phone line on their website. Nobody answered my phone and asked to leave a voice message. I did, there was no response from them since it has been almost a month. I kept shopping around because of TD insurance unreliability, their quote (the higher one) was still the reasonable one we can get, because we can get some group discount. For the sake of money, I went back and called them to activate our account early in the morning. Since unpleasant experience on quote, I double checked our premium, coverage (including download TD advantage App for 5% discount) before activating. So I preferred the payment by credit card, which is the only option for full payment. And I asked the agent repeated how much he will charge on credit card. The amount of payment was the exact number as the higher rate. So I gave him my husband's credit card information. It's done. And I asked him to send a temporary insurance file to us. Due to the post office being on strike, we need to get our car registration and switch licence plate in a week. I still didn't trust them, when my husband got off from work and called them in the evening to check how much they charge from credit card. Okay, it's the same amount as the quote. To our surprise, I got the official document of Auto insurance this afternoon, they charged us more than $100. So I was so confused that I called them to ask what is going on. It took a while for an agent to figure out the problem. They didn't give us a 5% discount when we downloaded TD advantage App. Jesus Christ! We agreed with using this App. They even sent us an email and asked us to download App with PIN. What's wrong with these people? If you don't provide us the discount, why did you ask us to download the App? They thought we didn't know the amount they charged extra. Unfortunately, I kept every record from them, it can be traceable. I read so many bad reviews about this App, I gave up on this App. I don't want to install it or have any issue with them. So be it.

a little weird

I had a quote done by someone who was a new hire. The price was really high under Ryerson, so I decided not to go with it. Then the guy called me back from a blocked number and said the manager approved for lower rates if I answer some questions about McMaster. All I had to do was pay $500. This really weirded me out, so I decided not to trust it. TD to me is selling my information. Even the manager's name he gave me was weird, shady. I am like that is so shady I ain't getting myself into that.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Slow response and hung up!

I was trying to get a quote for insurance and I was waiting for 10 minutes. I thought because I had previously used TD that it would be easier, but after waiting the agent informed me that I had not paid 20.00 and there would be interest on that from the last year. When I asked why or how much the new quote is they hung up on me! Obviously they are out sourcing this call centre somewhere people feel uncomfortable selling their scam insurance. I expect better from a Canadian company.

Ugly little liars

by Harold on Jan 5, 2016
1.5 out of 5 stars

I've been insured by TD Meloche Monnex for over 15 years. I shopped around for quotes before my renewal in August and found several lower rates. When I called TD to cancel my policy, I was redirected to their retentions service. The man there told me they don't match rates with other companies, but once TD's discount for snow tires is implemented my rate would be lower than the other quotes I got. He told that all I had to do was call back in January to get my rate adjusted. Given that, I decided it would just be easier to renew with TD.

It's now January and the snow tire discount has been implemented. I talked to another CSR and she says I need to wait till August to get the discounted rate. She admitted that what the man told me was wrong but she could not do anything about it due to "system limitations."

I was lied to and cheated by TD. I thought TD had more integrity than this but I was wrong. Beware what the CSRs tell you, once they have you locked into a contract, they won't give a damn about you.

Nightmare due to "non-payment"

by GoodbyeTD on Aug 8, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

TD Meloche Monnex simply didn't take out my June premiums (via PAD), so I call and ask why (and try to pay of course), they said it was an error in their payment processor and that I would have to mail them a certified cheque or pay with a visa. I chose the visa method because it was simply easier. My insurance was $141 a month (also the amount owing) and they ended up taking $937 (in three separate payments) off my credit card. I was furious. Called back several times and got the run around (one call was 2hrs and 32mins no joke!). They said the money would be returned to my Visa in 3 days and when it got refunded to await a call from them with instructions on how to repay (weird?). 14 days later the money appears on my Visa. 14 days. I call in to square up my policy as I'm worried about possible cancellation they say don't worry we will take it out again. The day of my PAD (July) comes and goes and they don't take it out again! I've now made about 12 calls to them and decide its time to create a paper trail. I sent them a fax detailing what has happened, who I spoke with, the dates, everything. I still get no call back! HOWEVER... they send me a $25 Tim Hortons gift card via mail with an apology. Next day I get a registered letter saying my policy has been cancelled due to non-payment... say what?

I'm freaking out. I've done nothing wrong. I call in for an explanation, they say don't worry your policy is fine and to disregard the letter. I get another registered letter saying my renewal has been cancelled as my policy was terminated. I call back and they say I haven't had insurance since July 1st and to NOT DRIVE. I miss a few days of work cause of this, my financing company politely informs me that if my car isn't insured I must surrender the plates or face repossession. I call TD Meloche Monnex back and literally say "how much money do you want right now to fix this? I've done everything you've asked me to do..." They say there is nothing they can do and my policy has been cancelled due to non-payment. What!?

I call another company for a quote so that my car doesn't get repo'd and so I can go to work and live life (even though I've done everything TD asked). The new company says that they will gladly insure me (I've never been ticketed or even pulled over in 9 years of driving), however my abstract shows a cancellation from TD due to non payment. I call TD back they say I have to just "deal with it and to call another company..." (are you kidding me?)

This incorrect black mark on my abstract makes my new premium about $282 a month (from $141 a month) I am furious. I call a lawyer for advice, she sends a letter to cease and desist the incorrect report to my abstract and advises me to contact the Financial Services Commission of Ontario's official complaint officer listing for Meloche Monnex who is listed as: Sid Nightingale (at https://www5.fsco.gov.on.ca/Licensing/ComplaintsOfficerListing/eng/lede…)

If anyone else is having the same problems I highly suggest you follow the same action I took. The next day I visited a broker to help (and face this new false reality of being a high-risk driver, even though I've never even been pulled over) and he said the black mark on my abstract was "magically" removed overnight. Someone from TD was scheduled to call me also on this day and didn't. Sid called me back 2 days later and left a message saying he sent my complaint back into the "client services" department, even though the reason why I called him was because this had escalated so far.

I have a feeling they realized the mistake and just tried to cover it up (sweep it under the rug) without admitting any fault or apologizing. I am now with a broker paying $21 less a month and my abstract says that TD reported my policy as being cancelled by me and no trace of a non-payment black mark. Sounds fishy. I'm just thankful this mess is over.

If you value your time, money, and stress levels..... STAY AWAY FROM MELOCHE MONNEX. They are a complete and utter joke of a company. I was driving without insurance for a month without any notice of cancellation (even though they helped themselves to almost 6x the money from my Visa!). I crossed the US/Canada border 3 times in this period and drove about 700km. Imagine I got into an accident? Or my car stolen? I always think about this and it scares me. Thank god and GOODBYE TD MELOCHE MONNEX! They are right when they say your best insurance is a broker.. I had a new policy the next day and they didn't even ask for any money until next month! I will be mailing the TimCard back to TD :)

Auto quote

by Thetruth on Jan 7, 2014

Called for a quote. Told them all info. I have two serious claims i was upfront with. She took my license number and says she sees those convictions and proceeds to tell me I am insurable, 100%. Kept in touch as I began looking for cars, and continued to get quotes and ok'd for insurance with TD. Finally found a car. Put a deposit and asked TD rep. to put the VIN and insurance in place. She says I am not insurable anymore because there are other things on my record. Was told by other reps. That the original rep. Did not look into the matter fully(even though she confirmed all the dates...so she obviously lied). Also was told they didnt have to look any further until the insurance was about to be purchased. They will do nothing. None of the reps will state they did anything wrong, even though I was misquoted on every single occasion until I was ready to pay for my insurance. Shady. Inaccurate. Inconsiderate. Dishonest. Bad business and no decency. Please, avoid this company and all others affiliated with it. They are not in the business of helping you. And they have all of their policies to back them up, so you will not win. Ever. At the risk of sounding redundant, please take your business elsewhere. This company does not deserve any hard-earned money. Leave them be. The other reviews can attest to this very same experience, in one form or another. Wish I would have read them before this. Let my experience not be regretful....please listen to this and all of the other reviews. Avoid TD Meloche Monnex.
