Terrible insurance company

by verdecal on Mar 4, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I was sent a form to fill out, (they gave me a week) 5 business days to fill it out and mail it back. I had to say goodbye (loyal 9-year customer with no record of any issues or accidents with them). Customer service was horrible and I just had to leave. I found out later that their rating was at an all-time low and the company was in some financial turmoil. So not only did I drop the auto insurance I also dropped my home and cottage insurance as well. I would suggest staying away from this insurance company.

I was hit by an Aviva customer and the whole claim experience was very bad, they just don't like claims related calls, everyone kept pushing you to the next person and the worse was the assigned adjuster, she only picks the phone when she feels like and never returned my voicemails when I asked why the detail in replying my email. She said I just send it 4 hrs before so it was too late, generally not a good experience, I would never use them and won't recommend them.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Run run run

Their premiums might seem more affordable but do yourself a favour and pay the extra $100+ if you must. Aviva has to be the worst insurance company in the world. First, they do not like paying out for damages, blame you for an accident that is no fault of yours, even if you have a solid proof. Their lawyers are scammers, who make up stories to get you thrown off during interviews. They undervalue your property threatened you to comply with their policy though you are in the right. I had an accident where I suffered a concussion, physical injuries, developed anxiety & depression but they are claiming my injuries are from other sources though there is nothing in my medical file stating I had these issues prior. I wasn't at fault for the accident yet they blame it all on me. This company is a crook company that should not be in operation. I have a 1 star to Aviva because I cannot go any lower.

It's time to say goodbye ...

It is so sad, but I decided to leave RBC Insurance after being a loyal customer for almost 20 years. The price hike in 2019 is unacceptable, I have a perfect driving record, no claims on my house insurance. I was told by two different RBC agents, that the price increase on my policy was because my new 2018 car doesn't have Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), REALLY!!?? I spoke to a few different, reputable Insurance companies and they were laughing, they told me, they never heard about an increase in premium for not having AEB installed on the car. Well, I was a loyal customer, but RBC/AVIVA is not, so it's time for me to look for a new Insurance Company.

AVIVA is the worst

I had both Auto and House policy with AVIVA for over 15 years. My rates increased last year. This year I got the notice that I was selected randomly to reapply for my policy renewal via email from my broker? I asked my broker why and they said AVIVA are randomly reevaluating auto policies in Alberta. You have to reapply and AVIVA will decide if you will even get a policy or not, plus you have to pay entire years policy, no monthly plan. I got the six-page form by registered mail today, just like starting from scratch, they already have all this information. I am a -15 grid rating driver, which is the best rating. I am the type of driver that AVIVA should be providing policies for since I am the lowest risk. Being treated like crap doesn't work for me, bye bye AVIVA. I also have a home policy which is getting switched to another insurance provider. AVIVA is the only company I know that doesn't want your business. Avoid them like the plague! I would rate AVIVA lower than one if I could.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

39% increase from 2018

We are retired. No accidents. No tickets. Have been customers of RBC Insurance and (now Aviva) for the past 35 years. We live in a low-risk community and drive a Hyundai and a Ford. How can they possibly justify an increase of both our auto and home insurance by 39%?! We hate change but NO WAY we will be assaulted by this corporate greed. Shop around folks.

Zero Stars

This company is absolutely awful. They are the first company that I used for my car insurance and when they were under RBC, they were great but the minute they switched to Aviva, they were absolutely horrible. They more than tripled my policy amount over two years then suddenly cancelled my entire policy without a word. Not even one claim or at-fault accident on my file. They are absolutely disgusting and the worst. I hate this company.

Insurance Renewal Process

by Pissed Albertan on Jan 29, 2019

I too had the same experience of many posted here. After 12 years of continued insurance and no missed payment, my auto insurance lapsed/expired because they deemed my application to be incomplete and I did not receive the reply from them in time to correct the issues. Had I NOT returned the application, I can understand the renewal not occurring, however, my application was returned in plenty of time in a status which I thought was complete. I left a couple questions blank as they were not applicable to my situation and I was supposed to mark them as N/A. Rather than accepting the application as returned, and calling to confirm the answers, my application was sent back. At this time Aviva is saying it could be up to 4 weeks before my application is processed and I am with insurance again...and this is IF I am approved. How do they expect people to go up to 4 weeks without auto insurance - and if a new vehicle owner calls to get insurance on a new car - how does Aviva expect them to drive their car home??? This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. I WILL be moving my auto insurance from them - and will be looking at moving all my other insurance away from them as well.

Bunch of Crooks

I've been with RBC (Aviva) Insurance for 10 years and with RBC for 20 years. They sent me that dreaded letter too at the beginning of December stating that I would have to reapply for my insurance and must pay the year's premium upfront, which left me struggling to get other quotes. I eventually caved and filled out the paperwork, with pen and paper, and mailed in the letter on December 28 (my policy was up for renewal on January 7). Jan 7 was a Monday and the policy expired 12:01 AM that morning with the previous week being the holidays and they were closed! When I got ahold of them that morning, the operator informed me that they had not received the letter. I neglected to send the letter tracked and as soon as I answered that the operator told me that I was out of luck and they would not be renewing my policy. I was paying $1600/year for 2 vehicles with one claim 5 years old. They quoted me almost $7000/year for a new quote after cancelling my policy and everywhere else won't offer a premium under $2700/year. Who does that?? There's got to be something that the government can do to put a leash on this company.
