Been with them for three years. Tried to call to modify my coverage to lower my rates but had to wait over 2 hours. Tried calling many times each time waiting more than an hour before getting cut off. Never reached an agent even though I tried for over a week. Ended up going somewhere else instead and got a much lower rate! RBC is a waste of time and overpriced.
Ever since Aviva partnered with RBC it's been a nightmare. Straight-up rip-off pricing. Terrible phone agents. They'll talk over you and hang up at their comfort during the middle of calls. Wait times were anywhere 40mins to 24hrs for them to call back if one of them chooses to. I've been on hold for 5 consecutive days 4hrs each day no one bothers picking up just stupid recording keeps playing over and over. I was a customer for 10years and this is the first time ever I had to call them to bind myself in headache. I will never give them my and family or friends business ever again. I am already pulling out insurance and banking with them and about 20 friends to follow. Yeah! Believe it or not... bye-bye RBC. KEEP UP THE IDIOCRACY TO THE MAX...
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Initial rates are reasonable, but once you become their client, they just keep increasing premiums without any explanation and waiting to speak to someone at their call center is also brutal. I highly recommend going elsewhere!
I have had a wonderful experience for the past 5 years and continue to. I have received amazing service from my local advisors. I had previously set up a policy and saved a lot of money! I have since spoken with insurance representatives regarding my policies and to make changes. They are always kind, courteous and accommodating. I believe the company has definitely taken a turn for the worse but believe the people and customer service is still there.
I felt compelled to add my very positive experience here when I noticed all the bad reviews. Maybe its luck of the draw? I have had great rates from RBC for a decade, and finally had a minor parking lot incident on my 5-year-old SUV. They arranged for the body shop and car rental and paid the bills all in a very timely manner. I couldn't have asked for more!
My car was hit in a parking lot - $4500 in damages, not my fault - thankfully the woman stuck around - called RBC at 830PM that night, took all the details. The next day they dropped off a (free) rental (on a flatbed) then took my car for repairs - they had this valet service I did not know about - honestly, I just bought the cheapest insurance on line. My car is now in for repairs and they are using "new" certified parts direct from BMW. Other than a trip to the reporting centre (my time - 20 minutes) it will not cost me a single penny. Thanks RBC - I have already recommended you to others because of this incident.
We've been insured with RBC for 5 years now. We have never had a claim, but I did have a minor, my fault collision. They had a really helpful line that talked me through the benefits and consequences of filing a claim. It was cheaper in this case to give the other individual $500 cash and not have my premiums increase. They have been very helpful when changing vehicles/drivers and when I've called to clarify my coverage (which has always included what I was worried about). Today, I got my renewal package in the mail and our monthly premiums for home/auto will be going down by $80 a month! That's a 36% discount without having to shop around (I had, and our new rate is in line with the lowest quotes I've seen with less coverage.). Needless to say, I'm pretty happy. Oh also they reduced our deductibles. Just because. I can't really complain.
The rate quoted to me via the online application was amongst the lowest so I made the decision to switch to RBC. However, after 3 weeks of waiting on hold (20-30 minutes for every call), calling back several times because the underwriters have another question that needs to be answered before they can issue a policy, trying to get my current insurer to issue a Letter of Experience and get it to the right place via fax (seriously, is faxing still a thing?), I gave up.
I ended up calling Scotia Insurance - I paid an extra 10 bucks but I managed to get the whole thing out of the way in one day with confirmations of insurance in my inbox before I got off the phone with them .
Just not worth it.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
They were best priced but after a few years, their rates increased and so I switched to CAA.

The first time I enrolled with them, I got a better rate than what I had previously. In one year, they decided to increase my premium by 30% for no reason.
Once I sold the car, I had to pay cancellation fees and I was not reimbursed for last month which I paid in advance.
This is really pathetic!
Cheap, unprofessional company !
