Policy canacelled, forgot to update credit card

I had been with TD home and Auto insurance for two years. I went on vacation and didn't realize my home insurance payment didn't clear. Instead of contacting me, I get home from vacation with a letter saying I had to pay out $3600 or my home insurance was cancelled. I paid the $3600. Then one month before my insurance was to renew. They took a payment out of my account. My payments before they made me payout were $325, the new payment they took was $390. Not telling me they upped my insurance. They told me I would get a refund, I advised them I didn't need a refund because it bounced as I didn't know they were going to take a payment. I cancelled the policy. They took a payment of 390 out again 4 days later. I then cancelled my home insurance & car insurance. It took 7days to get my refund for my home insurance. Then I needed a premium paid letter, to prove I didn't owe anything to TD. They told me I would not receive the premium paid letter for 10 business days. They refused to email the premium paid letter to the new insurance company or myself. So I can not get insurance for 10 business days. This is why I left this company. You are just a dollar sign or a number to TD, and they do not care about you. I would use TD as last resort. Dealing with TD has been a nightmare!
They didn't debit my credit card for the monthly premium at the beginning of the month and on the 12th of November when I deposited my paycheck I noticed that they didn't take their monthly payments because that's usually when I settle my credit card. I only use my credit card for the insurance and cell phone plans so there was plenty of money available for them.
So I was driving around with no cover for 12 days... They are unreliable, unprofessional and totally useless when you try to sort things out.
Now they are insinuating that it's all my fault and they had nothing to do with the problem in the first place. They are demanding a full year's payment from me.
Quit honestly I think they are going bankrupt and trying to squeeze money out of people, why else would they do this?
I'm trying to take care of the insurance for my elderly mother with dementia. After a very stressful experience for her with customer service, I was finally able to get her car and house insurance renewed.
Fast forward a month, and I look through all the documentation they sent and there's NO PINK SLIP for the vehicle.
I call back to ask them to send it. I wasted nearly 30 minutes fighting with their phone "screening" system, which can't understand words, gives endless instructions that can't be cut short, and once even hung up on me. I finally get someone who is so concerned with "security" that he can't simply send out the missing pink slips, he has to put me on hold to talk with someone. Seconds later, someone else picks up the call as though it were newly started. I explain I'm waiting. He puts me back on hold. Then I get someone talking over what sounds like his own voice mail who says something about "must have been cut off" and again wants to start from scratch.
Security? Not even security theatre! Easily one of the most pathetic excuses for customer service I've dealt with. Ever.
Incompetence. Terrible system. Lousy customer service. EXTREMELY lousy customer service.
And still no pink slip.
So, because of TD Insurance's own screw-up, I'm going to have to let their "customer service" torment my mother again on the weekend.
Thanks for nothing.
I was shocked by the $400+ increase in the renewal. The effective date was mid March, but TD programmed my PAP to start in Feb. I called to stop the PAP to start in Feb because I want to consider cancelling the auto insurance with TD. I was told that if I cancel it before effective date in mid March, a full refund will be made. I did cancel the renewal and I received a notice saying that it will take them 30 business days from the Notice date to do the refund. In addition to the call experience, I called so many times and follow-up so many times and each time you wait on someone to answer you call.
Checked my bank account to find out TD has taken more than double my premium from my account without any type of warning causing my mortgage to bounce and I incurred 2 NSF charges! When I finally got through to a real person to point out their mistake, I was told that this is what TD does to insure a policy renewal, and they will gladly give me my NSF charges back when I prove to them it was actually taken from my accounts. They are modern-day pirates out for only one thing... Profits! They couldn't care less about their clients. RUN as fast as you can from these people. I will be informing all my friends, relatives and colleagues of the way TD treat their clients!
And I thought my TD Assurance story was over. In November I had given TD Assurance explicit written directions that they were not to renew my policy automatically and that I wanted a quote at the termination of the current policy so I could make a decision.
Last Wednesday although my policy was completely paid for TD attempted to put another payment through my bank account. Fortunately, there wasn't enough money in that particular account and the payment bounced. The bank (not TD) did charge me an NSF fee which they subsequently gave me back once I explained to them what had happened. Then on Friday, I got a notice from TD Assurance that they had auto-renewed my policy at a rate that was double what I had negotiated with the new company for exactly the same terms as my original policy.
WARNING - DO NOT GIVE TD ASSURANCE YOUR BANKING INFORMATION. SHOP AROUND FOR INSURANCE RATES. TD Assurance rates are usury.
Make sure that you say "I AM CANCELLING MY INSURANCE. I AM NOT RENEWING. I DO NOT WANT TO BE INSURED BY YOUR COMPANY ANYMORE." Otherwise, they send you a $200 penalty invoice 2 months later for a service that you stopped paying for and did not use since the end of the term. Competitive rates, yes. Word traps and gouging after the fact, absolutely. Steer clear of them.
This is the worst auto insurance I have ever had anywhere in the world. I have lived in several countries and nowhere did I ever experience the level of incompetence and blatant disregard for people's time as I did with TD. I have been trying to reach them since the beginning of the month to renew my insurance. I spent close to 20 hours on the phone just waiting for them to pick up. The repetitive music that they play why you are on hold made me think of the movies I saw where music torture methods were portrayed. It also made me think that it was done deliberately, so people would not be able to stand the music and would just hang up. They did pick up eventually. My conversation with them lasted no more than 5 minutes and resulted in nothing. They told me that their computer system is updating and they are short-staffed because of COVID. No action to renew my insurance was taken. I moved to NS from another province and would have very much liked to keep my insurance from that other province. Unfortunately, my previous insurance does not work in NS, and TD seems to have a monopoly on auto insurance here. But, nevertheless, I do urge you to stay away from them! Maybe, eventually, the lack of customers will make them reconsider their approach.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Have anyone expected with calling during COVID times. My experience with TD insurance is very bad. Last month I spent a few hours waiting on the call and it took a few times to reach someone. I requested to add some on my contract and change the address. Sure my addition has increased the cost but they didn’t change the address on my new agreement. Also, I don’t receive any pink card from them. I try to reach them a few days and my calls were cut off after waiting for 3 hours.

My payments were preauthorizes and were going from 3 years. Then, my credit card gets lost and I forgot to update my card completely. They cancelled my policy for non-payment. They sent me a letter which unfortunately I never opened… It was called to renew, then I found my payments not going through. Then they said now your policy will be renewed with much higher rates. I cancelled my policy. They do not value customer, even though I cleared all the outstanding balances same day I found out my payments did not go through because of credit card changed.
