I contacted the Vancouver Office yesterday to renew my auto policy which expires today Sept 21st. Previously I was with Canadian Direct for my excess coverage but it appears they have been bought out by BelAir Direct Insurance. First of all my premium for the exact same coverage is now $100. more than last year? When I called yesterday I paid the full premium of $573 by Credit card and received a confirmation #. However, that exercise took at least 30 minutes as I was shuttled from one employee to another and had to listen to their music while they fiddled. The first employee was willing to take my money but he was unable to answer any questions about the coverage? Then later the second employee did as I directed (he didn't seem to be too clued in either) and dropped the Full Replacement Offer and credited me ( on the quote) the $42
However, today I received a call reminding me that it is time to renew my policy?I advised that I renewed yesterday and I have a confirmation # for my payment. Then he suggested I only made a partial payment of $42.
Eventually he transferred me to someone else and my irritation came through and this guy decided to believe me that I had paid and I have a confirmation #. I just checked my MC account and the payment was posted yesterday.
For the record when my next renewal time arrives I will be looking elsewhere and anywhere other than BelAir Direct.
Due to belair's total and complete incompetency, they withdrew money from the wrong bank account without my consent, causing me to go into overdraft. Rather than refunding me the money immediately, since this was their mistake after all, their ridiculous policy forced me to send in a copy of my bank statement. I now have to wait a minimum 5 days for my money to be returned, and now I have a bank mark on my bank account because I went into overdraft (and they refuse to contact my bank to take responsibility for their mistake) I WARN YOU DO NOT USE BELAIRDIRECT
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Terrible experience. We dutifully drove with the automerit device in our car for a year and earned a 12% discount, only to have our rates jacked up 20% (without any accident/incidents) and end up paying more! This automerit program is a scam and we are VERY DISAPPOINTED with belairdirect
Was sold from Western bank, suddenly my premium was raised 30 percent for no reason. Explanation: they have a lot of claims. I don't have any
All computer driven, cold, impersonal and just another money grubbing large corporation. The different depts seem oblivious of the goings on of the other. The auto claims adjuster tried to low ball their claim payment by at least 50% however I was ready. That's not acting in the customer's interest, but the interests of BelAir. Sorry, but I have nothing good to say about BelAirDirect nor can I recommend them. Their premiums are nothing special either.
Belair doesn't care about anything. If your mother, father or kids die, they will still charge you their cancellation fees, pathetic. I had a family tragedy and I cancelled my auto insurance less than 1 week late (obviously other more important things on my mind) and they charged me their $400 fee. I have already started lobbying family, friends, neighbors and coworkers of their PROFITS FIRST attitude. Thank You Belair for treating a decade long client like an ATM.
Got my renewal which went up for no reason over $60 a month... I went online and got a quote from the same company for $40 less a month. When I asked them about it and, of course, wanted the lower rate, I am told that I can't (the new policy has not started yet and they're offering a lower rate but only to new customers?) Absolutely ridiculous... just screw over the people who have been with you the longest - it is their policy...
Unbelievable. Today I called to tell them that I will no longer be driving my car to work. The customer service person readjusted my pending July renewal to reflect this and gave me the new number. It was higher! I said, "Why is the new rate higher than when I drove to work?" She says that my car is at greater risk sitting in West Hamilton in my driveway, than if I drove 25k to work, and that the conversation has been recorded when I said that I would not be driving to work, so I can't change my mind and say otherwise now. Drive to work -higher rates. Don't drive to work -higher rates. Does this make any sense? I'm not making this up.
I'll be pursuing this with a supervisor tomorrow. I've been a 30 year customer with a less than $200 in total claims over that time. House insurance -up 10% every year for the last 4 years, no claims ever in 30 years. I'll be shopping both policies if I can't hear something that makes more sense than what I heard today..
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Claim opened July 2016. They still have not fixed my car and its June 2017. I was rear-ended at a stop light causing my head rest air bags to deploy.
They have treated me as if it's my fault someone rear ended me when I was stopped. I've been patiently and calmly waiting for them to resolve this but a year is too long to wait!!!
I pay my policy on time and my policy covers this type of claim.
This is so stressful.
Worst company I've ever dealt with.
They take my money monthly, are keeping my claim open but won't fix my car.
I was rear-ended at a light, air bags deployed , impact caused damage to the back of my car and the person admitted hitting me. Case closed! Not sure why it takes a year to figure that out!! Especially with police reports.
I can't switch insurance companies while a claim is open either!

These guys increased my premium on the auto insurance by 30% in the past two years (10% in 2016 and another 20% in 2017). Last year they at least sent me a written notice in regards the changes. They didn't bother to inform me this year at renewal, I just noticed the changes while checking my bank account where they take the premiums from. Their customer service wouldn't respond on my complaint when I tried disputing the changes. Before anyone would think the increase is due to my claims; I had no claims for many years and I'm sitting in the best available -15 grid level. Where does the money go then? My best guess is their expensive (and idiotic) TV commercials, I don't see any other insurance company spend this much on advertisements.
