Great service in Quebec!

by Matt D on Jan 21, 2017
5 out of 5 stars

I can't speak for services in other provinces but I have nothing but good things to say about belairdirect in Quebec. They were always friendly and helpful. I had one claim with them when somebody backed into my parked car. The process of getting my vehicle repaired was as stress free as possible. The province's no fault insurance and low rates helped the experience but, overall, it was the positive interactions with many different representatives that moved me to write this review. Good service shouldn't go unnoticed. I recently moved back to BC and deal with ICBC where my only complaint is the high rates: $100/mo compared to the $35/mo I was paying for the same coverage in Quebec.

Not As Advertised

by Almost Shafted on Jan 18, 2017

Belair Direct advertises that "your first claim will not affect your rates". That's not true.

My first (and only) claim. I was parked on the street. Someone backed out of a laneway, hit my car, and took off. The incident was captured on a restaurant's surveillance cameras, but we were unable to get a licence plate number from the video.

I submitted a claim to Belair Direct, and almost immediately, they responded, saying this was an "At Fault" accident. (I wasn't even in the car, so it puzzled me how I was "at fault".) But the people I spoke with were adamant, and they were quick to point out that my "rates would go up" because of this accident. (What happened to their advertised statement of "your first accident will be forgiven"??)

As it turned out, I had to go to the police reporting center so that the accident could be "evidenced" as being a "hit and run". How was I to know? I don't get into accidents on a regular basis, so I'm not instinctually familiar with the process. But once I did this, and had it submitted to Belair, I received a letter saying that my rates would not change.

The bottom line is that Belair was "gung ho" to increase my rates based on this "first accident claim". You might say I was held "guilty without jury". They had the virtual noose out before I was able to even attest to my case. I was "attacked" by this company before my situation was heard.

In my opinion, this is despicably poor treatment by an insurance company, especially given the nature of their advertisements. Given the way I was treated, their advertisement of "your first accident will be forgiven" is a total lie. I would not do business with this company given their dishonest nature.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Insurance claim

by Ed on Jan 1, 2017
4.5 out of 5 stars

Our vehicle sustained a lot of damage as a result of being hit by a deer. We contacted Belaire claims dept. resulting in a very prompt, professional handling of our claim. Our vehicle was repaired in a timely fashion and quality of the repair was excellent. Belaire kept us informed throughout the process. We were very happy with the reponse and level of service we received.

horrible service

Belair representatives are not fair, honest, friendly nor did they solve my claim in a timely manner. I gave all info needed within 2 days of filing my claim. It took them over 3 months to send me a letter stating I was not at fault in the accident. I then obtained insurance with different company and the file said the status of claim was still pending. I was not receiving info in timely fashion, I was getting continuous incorrect information sent to me (date of claim etc), continuous misspelling when communicating which made it very hard to get the correct spelling of thier chosen appraisers name (biased appraiser). Reps ignored my questions about my claims and complaints. The same rep that called me about information I had already sent to her days prior that she somehow couldn't find but was most definitely sent. Toddlers are better at communication then this woman. I found a complaint service called ombudsman online and went through them to solve the rest of my claim. After i hired an independent appraiser and accepted a settlement, a rep from toronto office lied to me saying she recieved one document but not the others(ownership and key). She said that because she made a mistake(forgot to say sign back of ownership) i sent everything together in one envelope 45 min prior to the call so i knew she was lying. I cancelled policy due to mistreatment.

Playing games! TERRIBLE!

These guys insured me (auto); failed to renew me (as prearranged); sent me letters to inform me I'm uninsured, but to the wrong address; then when I found out (after driving without insurance for a month) they told me they needed to see two pieces of info proving where I live, and it couldn't be a driver's licence (what? really?). But I provided that to them, as they had asked. Then told me (after I painfully got this to them, as I was on vacation at the time with my uninsured truck) they needed the deed to my house. I argued with them, as it was not what they asked for in the first place (saying the 2 former docs would suffice), so difficult for me to do, and now I'd wasted a lot of time already getting the former docs - faxing, etc. Finally, I gave in and I got it to them after asking a friend to go to my house and send it to me. Then they tell me "okay, great we will review your file and get back to you after 15 days". 15 days!? Why?

What??? I had been using them for 3-4 years at this point without a single blemish or problem. All of the sudden THEY screw up and then decide they didn't want to insure me anymore, but had no reason not to so they just made it soooo difficult on me that I wouldn't be able, and I would just go away, which is what happened. But why play games with me? They just messed with my life! Why not just tell me rather than take up hours and hours of my time, wasted while on vacation, all for nothing.

Furthermore, the agents I spoke with were firstly, not helpful, not nice and as I finally got to the supervisor --- she was honestly one of the rudest people I've spoken with in customer service - period.

BOTTOM LINE: Yes, they offer cheap prices, but they have no qualms about treating you poorly, leaving your stranded, providing you poor service and outright playing games with your life!

I would NEVER recommend them to anyone.

SOLUTION: I simply called another company and had full insurance in 10 minutes. Literally a 10-minute phone call and I was done; insured immediately!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Still waiting... THE WORST!

by Reo on Dec 13, 2016

We were told that they already have our cheque ready in August. It's now December and still no sign of the cheque. We called almost every week to check on the status of our claim and we get the same excuse, "it's in our finance department". Are they all in vacation since August? If I could put zero stars on the "claim experience", i would. Also, to anyone thinking of going with belair, don't!

Licensed Theives

The WORST! If I could switch out of my car insurance policy right now I would.

I was charged an $35 for being short 0.50 cents for my car insurance which I had never missed a payment (perfect record). transferred from person to person just to hear that the fee could not be waived. I was then given false recollection dates which they charged another $35 and $25. I happen to missed the recollection date because I was advised false dates provided by a belair direct rep. They did an investigation basically saying nothing of the sort was said. SO i basically missed my recollection date on purpose because I wanted to pay an extra $75. When asked to provide said transcript they could not produce it. They basically threatened me to pay the $75 stating if i don't pay I would it would go on record. They basically stated that I lied about the whole conversation. I'll never do business with them again or recommend them to any enemy. They do not care about their customers they might as well showed me the door.
NO CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THIS COMPANY. no accommodations from them to even waive the fee which is missed only 50 cents.

4 Month Headache

by andrewhann7 on Nov 16, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

I recently had to file a total loss claim with Belair. Please do not ever insure your vehicle with this company. My claim took for months to settle. They frequently said they would call me back within two or three days and never once did. They didn't even look at the police report until three months into the process. They take advantage of consumers who don't know any better. I could go on but you get the point.
Never use this company

VERY BAD INSURANCE COMPANY

by Dmitriy Sukhov on Nov 11, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Very, very, very bad insurance company. I had and accident on August 16th. Today is a November, 11th. I have been calling, sending emails no response from my adjuster at all!!! Her name is Marilen P. – very rude person. First, she said to me that she called a dealership where I bought a car and confirmed the price, and it was 10,000$ cheaper than the price I paid for it. When I called a dealership, that same person who talked to her, said that she has never asked for the price. So, I called her – no response, so after 10 times trying, I got her on the phone. And she said, we starting an investigation, she has never said, why or anything. So, I have been waiting for 4 months paying for insurance, while I don't even have a car. Very, very bad experience.
