I recently applied for auto insurance with Belair Direct, the person I spoke with his name is Josh was very professional and friendly. Josh even asked me many questions and looked for the best possible discounts to have lower rates. He did come back after being on hold and mentioned that the overall policy will be 3 dollars more per month and I was OK with that because it was only a small amount. I really appreciated everything Josh did for me so in other words I was very happy with the service I had with Belair. Oh yes I would like to mention that I was a previous customer of Belair 3 years ago and have returned with them because I had remembered the great quality of insurance offered and the great service.
I had just recently got a criminal record and to my surprise Belair decided they can't insure me because "people with criminal records have a higher risk of making claims". That is the most disgusting superficial thing I've ever heard. My criminal record has NOTHING to do with driving and they still decide not to insure me. Anyways stay away they're to expensive and have pretty dumb policies...it's more of a circus then a business
I've been part of this community for a few years now and figured I'd give my fellow Canadian members a heads-up. Last year I found a new car, fully optioned with rear DVD and B&O sound. The only thing was - the car was in a previous accident before it made it's way to Quebec from Ontario. The price was right so I made the move. A few weeks after purchase I contacted iND and ordered carless DP's from AMS. Fast forward, I got back from a trip to Toronto and decided to hit the gym. After about an hour or so of training, I walk into the locker room to find my lock gone and later realized my M5 was taken from the parking lot... Needless to say, I kicked my self in the butt for leaving the car keys in the locker but they aren't the most convenient to have on you when you jog. That's where BELAIR/INTACT come in. I filed the claim that same night and it's been a nightmare ever since. They've given me the run around for over three months until I mentioned contacting my lawyer. At that point, the adjuster told me that and I quote - ''well, I understand that your unhappy with the time the investigation has taken but if you had to write a check for this amount it would hurt you too''. I advised her that I had recorded this conversation after which she explains to me that they will be refusing my claim because after the car was repaired and brought into Quebec it was not inspected legally?? I asked for an explanation and that as far as she would go. I ask what responsibility I had in this as I bought the car repaired and even declared to the agent at the time of insurance that the car had been in a prior accident and they were fine with that. She said it was policy and that they would be refunding me the entire policy. I find this to be a ridiculous nightmare. This is my 16th BMW and I'm 30 years old. I paid the car in full and never had a claim. I want to warn others that are insured by Belair or Intact that this can happen to you. After contacting an insurance lawyer on the phone and explaining the situation he said let me guess - are you insured with Intact? I was surprised and relieved to hear I was not the only one to go threw this. After meeting with him he proceeded to show me 15 current lawsuits he has filled against BELAIR/INTACT in the past 6 months. Important to note all claims over 50,000$. He said they are known not to pay large claims and take a gamble that you'll sue and get fed up or run out of money threw postponement and court fees. Needless to say, I told him I will never drop this, money, not in question. This a dirty business tactic by a company that I thought was above board.
Former Grey Power client. I was on a monthly payment plan. When I got my new policy documents from Grey Power I called to say I just wanted lump sum because of the new surcharge for monthly. Then Grey Power rolled over to BelAir. Didn't think it would be a big deal but was in for a surprise this month to find BelAir has charged my visa for a month of both home and auto insurance one month my policy is set to renew. I called to get the charges reversed and was told the charges were for my previous year's policy - after 10 minutes of going through my policy info with the BelAir rep that was finally cleared up. Then he suggested the pre-payment could just be charged to my policy renewal. I told him I had no intention of pre-paying anything and had not decided if I would renew with them. I was promised the charges would be reversed. Just back from a week of holidays and still no reversal. Will see what happens with the next phone call but thus far I am not impressed with the way BelAir is doing business.
We decided to change our insurance to TD because their rates were better by $500 (I am not exaggerating). As I was wrapping up the cancellation with Belair, they all of a sudden tacked on a cancellation fee just shy of $150. I checked online and there is no mention of a cancellation fee anywhere on their website or in their actual policy documents sent to us. I told this to the agent and she told me that it is mentioned once in the 75-page booklet sent to us when we first started our policy. I asked her why this was not online and she said "because nobody would read it". Anyway, I told her that this cancellation fee means that I will never insure with them again. Her response was a verbal shrug. Summary: bad quotes, hidden fees. Watch out. The only good thing about Belair is that many of their agents are courteous.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I am a 21 y/o new female driver and went with BelAir Direct after a couple of recommendations. I have done a couple comparison quotes with other companies and was not surprised when they gave me a quote for my premium. ($405/month). However, I am reading some pretty bad reviews about them after spending 45 minutes on the phone with them and eventually signing on with them. I hope my experience with them is a decent one and I don't run into any discrepancies. Other than that the girl I spoke with for almost an hour was unbelievably courteous and understanding considering my lack of knowledge on the subject. Any feedback on them would be appreciated :)
18 yrs old and quoted at $3083 anually by far the best rate. All my other quotes were over$4200.
Well 13 years + have passed, 2 claims and I was very pleased with all the staff but I had to say goodbye (cancelled today) for home and auto, boat and travel trailer insurance. We have moved to the province of QC and Belair Direct QC is very different. I have transferred all to them except they do not cover travel trailers and there was only one that I could find to do a stand alone policy (not with the House). I would recommend the ON office to anyone and have been doing it for years. Keep up the good work!
Only good things to say about Belair Direct
Terrible experience with Bellairdirect. I was a customer with them for 4 years. My company transferred me for assignment to the US for a few months. I gave bellairdirect a call just to confirm that I would be covered for the few months while working in the States as I was taking my car with me. Because I was unable to provide a exact return date (tho I said it would be less than their 6 month period they were telling me I would be covered for), I was told I had 20 days to cancel my policy with them or I would be canceled directly by them. At the time we had multiple members of my family insured through bellairdirect. Lucky I was able to find a new provider who had no problem insuring me for my time in the US. Awful customer loyalty and service. Would not recommend.
