Extremely rude and don't know how they charge cancellation fees

by Desjardin customer on Dec 15, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

They told me my cancellation fees were gonna be $364 yesterday and today in one day it went up... Now I have to pay 394... When I asked how do they calculate that - no explanation! 3 different agents... One of them - Chinese agent started shouting and swearing and being rude... No sense of customer relation and treatment... Bastard company! Don't deal with them... I hope due to this review they lose a lot of money...

Run the other way

by Steve on Nov 30, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Terrible service for the one and only claim we made on a truck for our landscaping business. Minor damage to the tailgate of a Ford F150, they refused to cover because the accident occurred off-road while unloading material at the dump. Thousands of dollars wasted in ensuring trucks, trailers, general liability etc.
Run, don't walk from this option if you need insurance for vehicles or equipment for your business.

Terrible Insurance Company

by AthenaZ on Jan 14, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

I have never checked reviews about Desjardin. However similar to the majority of other reviews here, I have been with State Farm for over 20 years for both Home and Auto and since Desjardin took over I have been charged a lot more year after year. Most recently I called to get some explanation even though I had 0 claims all my life, their agents along with their people are extremely rude and data in their system is inaccurate. I definitely DO NOT recommend them to anybody. I am searching for another reliable insurance provider for both Home and Auto.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

They refuse to cover anything

by John on Nov 23, 2020

My girlfriend has coverage with them. She pays almost $500 a month for comprehensive coverage. Some idiot hit her car from behind while she was waiting for the light to change. It has been weeks now and they keep saying they don't cover for that kind of damage. She's definitely going to be switching.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

by Denise on Oct 23, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

I was a client of State Farm Insurance for 15 years, where the customer service was personal and excellent. Desjardins bought out State Farm, a very bad move for State Farm clients as I have discovered. On June 13, 2020 my vehicle was caught in a flash flood during a major hail and rain storm in Calgary. As a consequence, my vehicle's engine was flooded. Because there was no help to be had, I called AMA, who towed my vehicle in the middle of the night to my trusted auto repair shop. After calling for a week, I was finally able to reach Desjardins. The adjuster told me that my certified repair shop was not on the Desjardins list so the Adjuster insisted on towing the vehicle to a body shop even though there was no body damage. (Lie #1 - the customer can have the vehicle towed to any trusted garage). What I needed was a mechanic. I researched and learned that indeed my vehicle was repairable. After a month, a Desjardins inspector finally showed up, took two minutes to look at the vehicle and insisted it was not repairable so he had the vehicle towed to an auction company. Desjardins made me a ridiculously low offer, which I refused. Finally, they offered a bit more which I again refused. My research told me that the vehicle was worth much more than they were offering and it was repairable. I sent my research to the Adjuster who finally made a decent offer. I did not sign off immediately because I wanted to conduct more research regarding the potential of repairing the vehicle. Yes, it was repairable. The Adjuster lost patience with me stating that she needed to close the file immediately and if I didn't settle I would get nothing (Lie #2 - upon calling the Insurance Bureau of Canada I was informed that I had 2 years to settle the claim). Finally, after 4 months, I accepted Desjardins' offer because they refused to let me buy out the vehicle, forcing me to have to bid on it in an auction. In the meantime, without notifying me, Desjardins notified the Alberta government that the vehicle was deemed unrepairable and that it could never be considered drivable (Lie #3). There was no body damage so it could definitely be deemed as salvage which would have allowed me to repair it and drive it again. This seemed to be a spiteful move on the part of the Adjuster. During the 4 months of back and forth with Desjardins, I asked to speak to a supervisor but no one ever called me. My broker was unable to negotiate for me as, unlike State Farm, Desjardins does not allow brokers to speak on behalf of their clients. I have now lost my trusted vehicle and must buy another one even though my settlement would have been enough to repair the vehicle. Never, never trust Desjardins. I feel that Desjardins merely wanted to pay me out as cheaply as possible just to get rid of me. As a client, I had no value to them.

Worst car insurance ever

by Merp12 on Oct 22, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

After being in a collision that wasn’t my fault (was hit by a drunk driver) they refused to assess the car requested I pay for it and they would return the money if the damage was the cause of the accident. Nobody called back for days, argued with me instead of attempting to communicate professionally. Long story short I have no car!

Desjardins greed

by Beware of corporate greed on Oct 16, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

I had been a customer of State Farm for over 30 years. When Desjardins took over, they steadily increased my premiums. I had to change companies because Desjardins was too expensive. They raised my rates during a pandemic, then had the nerve to charge me a one-month penalty for cancelling my policy. They then sent me a letter stating “we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future”. Sure, when pigs fly...

Terrible company. High rates.

by Bil on Oct 15, 2020

Desjardins is currently blackmailing their customers into using an app they developed to track your driving habits. That's right. They want to be able to monitor your driving habits every time you drive your vehicle. They want you to agree to this with the promise of lower insurance rates for safe driving. If my driving record is spotless shouldn't that qualify me for lower rates? Not according to Desjardins.

Charge WAY too much

by nope on Oct 7, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

I was being grossly overcharged for insurance that I never made a claim with but for some reason kept increasing instead of decreasing every year. I found a company that is now charging me less than half of what Desjardins was. I cancelled my Desjardins policy and they are now charging me a whopping 18% of what was left of my yearly premium as a cancellation fee. The office claimed that the insurance agent is entitled to charge this "short rate" fee whenever you cancel a policy early, fine, I expected to pay a cancellation fee, but the amount I was charged is ludicrous. I will never purchase insurance from this company again.
