Claims adjuster offered a settlement amount when our truck was stolen and asked us to consider the amount and get back to her by the end of the day. When I called back her voicemail said that she would be away on vacation for two weeks. The claim was very poorly handled and took a rediculously long period of time to finalize.

Not helpful when in accident

Everything was great until I've got in a not-at-fault accident.

They refused to pay my repair ( scratched fender + right headlight + bent hood ) and wrote-off my car.

They offered me 1/2rd of the car value, quoting a similar garbage car found around Edmonton. I'm in Toronto, .

In the previous year I've replaced $2000+ worth of car parts: tires, shock absorbers, alternator, timing belt. When I've emailed the invoiced they increased my car value by $300 or so.

Not sure how other insurance companies behave in an accident, but definitely I don't want to hear of them anymore.

My 2 cents.

WORST CLAIM SERVICE EVER

I had my car stolen December 5th. I have left several messages for my adjuster and then his supervisor. To date not one return call from either the adjuster or the supervisor. I have called again today and was advised to escalate the matter to another department and should receive a call-back within 24 hours. Thank god we do not have our home insurance with them.

Unprofessional Service

Claim ajuster failed to return my call, or to talk to my garage. Refused to listen or accept the extended damage after my car was assessed by the aprasier. Whenever she called me, she told me my car rental was due and the insurance co. would not cover it. She ignored the fact and just left me face the problem on my own. Unbelievable attitude and arrogant.

Overpriced for the 5-year new vehicle protection. And then I had a speeding ticket 2 years ago and then my record resets after 3 for the 10-over ticket then the final year they up charge me insurance.

Do not get insurance with this company

Initially, I thought that I was receiving low rates with car insurance and home insurance. I changed vehicles and the price went up so I continued to look elsewhere because Desjardins was charging me almost $300 with a good driving record including home insurance, having a child with special needs made that budget rough. I found full coverage including extra coverage for my children and home insurance all for less than almost half the price of Desjardins so I cancelled with them before a month was up and this company charged me a whole month extra as a cancellation fee. That was crazy, I didn't even sign a contract at that.

Sky high rates

I started shopping around when I was quoted $270/month by Dejardins for insurance on a recently purchased home. I had also been paying $350/month for insurance on two vehicles - I had two at-fault accidents that I had claimed more than 5 years ago, which pushed my premium up so I never really questioned it. I called TD to get a quote for home and auto insurance and immediately switched as I found out I would save >$3,000/year in total. I am now paying $350/month for both home and auto insurance, even with my driving history. Dejardins are crooks! Similar to others, my premiums went up significantly when Dejardins took over State Farm.

So far so....bad!

I was with State Farm for a good while and never had one problem with them, always helpful friendly people who weren't afraid to be in touch if something was amiss. Then came Desjardins... I decided to stay the course and give them a chance expecting to get similar good service and my rates stayed about the same. Yes they called and said they would like to arrange a meet and greet at their office, they were even quick to get me quotes on vehicles I was shopping around for but that's where the pleasantries ended! I've always owned cheap, used vehicles and have always insured them with liability and comprehensive ALWAYS AND ONLY. After a little chat with them recently it appears one of my vehicles for some reason has collision on it and the other is missing the comprehensive... I've never changed my policies (no reason to) and I'll admit maybe I haven't read every little word on every little piece of mail I've gotten from them but considering I brought to their attention that I wouldn't have changed my policies and some kind of error must have occurred during the changeover you would think that they would take some time to investigate the matter but no. I had an answer much too brief and quick to have been taken seriously. I shopped around and found better service at a much better price (saving $500+/year) with more flexibility and options! "We dont want to lose your business" I was told, well talk is cheap and actions speak volumes to me! Not only can they not even come close to matching another reputable company with a local office to keep my business but they won't take the time to investigate a potential internal error they may have made during the changeover, I can't say I feel as if I'm being very well taken care of. Oh, how I miss State Farm!

They unbelievably contacted me to justify their increases. Below are their communications and my response: The statistics tell the story. There are several factors that impact the premiums Canadian drivers pay today. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions Canada-wide and is responsible for a greater percentage of road fatalities than impaired driving. Drivers who text while driving are 23 times more likely to be involved in a car accident or near-crash situation. While vehicles are technologically more advanced and do a great job of keeping Canadians safe, their high tech components are also more expensive to repair, which contributes to increased claims costs. A simple fender bender now costs thousands of dollars to fix, which was not the case before. 4 tips to help keep your premium down. Even if you have little control over the stats and facts stated above, there are ways to be proactive! Take a look at the tips below to help lower your auto insurance premium. Stay claims and conviction-free. To this day, being a careful and focused driver remains the best way to avoid an accident. Not only can distracted driving compromise your safety and other people’s, but you could also end up getting a ticket or getting into an accident, which both impact auto insurance premiums. Make the offenders pay more. 2) We don’t drive expensive to repair vehicles. Increase premiums for the wealthy who drive expensive cars. 3) We are claims and conviction free, yet we continue to be penalized financially. 4) Why is our home insurance also increasing significantly for the second year consecutively? 4) For what it is worth, I registered a complaint with the Insurance Ombudsman. I certainly hope Desjardins improves their client-retention marketing and communication strategies. We’ll be shopping around for our renewal unless Desjardin significantly improves their offering.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Money grabbing insurance

I've had much insurance and as I know if you have a good driving record every year your annual premium usually goes down and insurance would be cheaper except for Desjardins! Instead of awarding the good drivers they raise the cost to 60 dollars extra per month from paying 195 per month to 251 per month when it came to my renewal I've had no accidents or claims... Called another insurance and they were able to give me the coverage for 215 per month that a saving of over 500 a year... Never will I return as a customer of Desjardins. They need to learn to compete with their competitors and stop trying to take people's hard-working money... horrible just horrible rates. Anyone thinking of switching to this insurance company I advise you to try someone else!
