I pay my home insurance by cheque every 6 months. Normally we drop it at the office before the due date. The Intact agent said due to COVID-19 they are not accepting cheques. We asked about doing an electronic bank transfer. They said no - they don't accept those. How do we pay? They said credit card. Ok - here is my card number. The agent then says there will be an additional fee of $42.79 for a $1440.00 insurance payment for using a credit card! I asked them how can they be doing that - they will not accept any other form of payment at this time and force you to use a credit card and then rip you for additional fees. Company policy they said. That's the way to step up in the time of a national pandemic Intact! Charge more!
My condo unit was seriously damaged by a visitor of my tenant. A sprinkler was broken which resulted in a flood damaging a lot of other suites in the building. INTACT communicated seamlessly with the insurer and me. I’m very satisfied with their service. I’m in Vancouver BC.
Our house was broken in and robbed. The adjusters and other Intact team members were responsive, understanding, caring, and very helpful. The claim was resolved professionally and in a timely manner. We're very thankful to the Intact team.
I had a sink water supply line burst on October 5th, 2019. Despite being home at the time and catching it fairly quickly, the water ran down through the main floor below and then into the basement. After dealing with the emergency, walls were opened up and dried for about a week. We continued living in our home (family of 4) with only 1 working bathroom until Dec 1st when we moved out to a local hotel for 7 weeks. I had a local restoration company deal with the emergency and demo and then I took the "payout" option to hire my own contractors to put everything back together. I was very happy with Intact and my claims representative was fantastic. I recommend patience initially as it takes time for everything to get sorted out. Once things got going, it went very smoothly. I also recommend paying a bit extra in your policy to have "Claims Advantage" which protects your first claim from increases. Glad we had that!
I wish I could give them no stars. They are the biggest scam artists and will do anything to take money from people. They will ask for payment without any documents (they do verbal agreements without you seeing any documents...I know, super professional and legit company) and say “Your documents will be sent in the mail. How will you be paying right now?” type of company. I actually thought I was being scammed, that’s how they do business. When I accused them of scamming me, they eventually sent me the proper documents via email (they should’ve done that in the first place like normal companies). I then was going to pay in full when they properly handled things. They said they need to go over the phone conversations and would review my file and let me know...leaving me to wait with my house insurance near the end date. They are now taking me to collections and they are wanting me to pay for them being incompetent. I was forced to go with my other insurance company because I would’ve been without insurance and they were “reviewing” my file. It infuriates me to think of how many people this has happened to. My mortgage company keeps getting cancellation of house insurance letters from them because I am fighting this. Go somewhere else, they have treated me like absolute garbage this whole time and I’m appalled at the way things are being handled. Go with another company! I’m already starting to hear from other people about their experiences. Look at the reviews. This company will be going under for sure. Just want to save people from getting ripped off if I can.
I recently had a significant claim at my home. Intact were on site within 24 hours and had organized a contractor shortly thereafter. I chose to go with their rely contractor who was quick and efficient in getting things back to normal. What originally looked like 6 weeks of repairs was finished in just under 4 weeks. I gave the subcontractor open access (they worked 7 days a week) and the finished job is really good. The adjuster was also very helpful. A great experience all around.
I have had a horrific experience with The Personal. I had a claim and my adjuster was very poor in explaining the process, but mostly guiding the process. I've never experienced such poor customer service. I went nearly a year without any representative providing me with a thorough update on my claim, despite phone calls and emails contacting them. My adjuster was unable to truly assist me. For example, my building had asbestos and she recommended that I take my contaminated belongings to the dump myself. In another instance, she kept calling me at the end of her workday, despite her being in the Atlantic time zone and me being in Mountain time zone so we were never able to connect as I was working and unable to consistently check my phone throughout the day. I asked her to call me in the morning instead so that we could connect better and more efficiently throughout the day. She made me feel guilty for her staying 15 minutes late due to me having a meeting at the end of my work date and being unavailable to take the call sooner despite me asking her to call earlier in the day. After the 13 months that I have been with them, I am cancelling my policy with them. In doing such, they are charging me a cancellation fee as well as increasing my last few months of payments. I do not recommend The Personal to anyone and I will be openly sharing my experience so that others do not have the same experience as me.
Do not buy insurance with Intact!!! My townhouse was recently destroyed by water and fire due to a unit that was attached to mine started the fire. Most of my belongings were intact but damaged by water from firefighters protecting the spread of this fire. The adjuster I got came out and was very sweet and kind at first when we met her the same day of the fire. The things changed quickly when we met her again to do a walkthrough. Made me buy hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel toe boots and face mask with my own money! My wife is pregnant so we had her sister come along. So I had to supply all that stuff myself. Then she accused me of not trusting her because all I wanted to do was walk through my house and take pictures of all my belonging so I can have a photographic memory of what I lose, so I can claim it. That seems like a normal thing any homeowner would do when something like this happens. She just cared about me signing papers to hand over my house to them to destroy and raid. Anyways there a lot more things and that's all I have been through so far. I am still in the process of recovering my things but I'm terrified of what will happen next because these people working on my claim give zero remorse and let you know right away through the things they say, body language and how they act that they just hear to save the company money and that they don't see you as innocent victim that you. Moving my insurance for sure after I'm done dealing with them! Feels like a nightmare!!! Being a victim of a house fire and also knowing that your insurance doesn't have your back while this process still ongoing!

Spriggs broker did not inform the customer that they couldn't get home insurance with Wawanesa and attempted to sneak in renewal with Intact Instead. Now Spriggs and Intact say Customer is on the hook for a cancellation fee - for a policy that was never authorized by the customer in the first place.
We are still fighting a claim that began March 3, 2020!! It is now August, at every turn, they have negatively dealt with us causing me mental stress that I couldn’t do it on my own anymore and needed help. Our first “representative” should be fired I’m positive we are not the only ones he’s dealt with in such an unprofessional manner! We needed to escalate it to his boss in 1 conversation to my husband took on an unprofessional approach as well as swearing and telling him he should pick up a book and learn to read. Once again we escalated to his boss or above him, who originally we thought we would finally see progress and she proved unprofessional and unable to do her job, she has been ignorant, didn't hasn’t resolved any matter after all this time they’ve left us with mouldy clothes/my 15-year-old daughter without a bedroom set because they claimed it was in the pod which we have a receipt for $7500 when they actually threw it out which I was 100% on as I saw them put in the truck they towed away as “garbage” (careful I think their staff gets first dibs as I would be surprised with their proven practices we’ve been exposed to. My basement is in shambles, my daughter has no bedroom at 15, you can’t move in my main floor because things we could save are shoved on my main floor, I have no laundry facilities as they were flooded and shorted out, and the clothes we could salvage my daughter is living out of a garbage bag and other clothes and items from the basement were thrown out or have been given back to us mouldy. My garage is completely full of boxes that are crumbling at the bottom due to whatever is in them. I COULD GO ON FOREVER! We have been able to eat a meal together at the table even 1 of us at the table there is too much stuff everywhere. We eat in our laps. With COVID we haven’t even been able to go out to dinner together. My daughter and son missed birthday celebrations at home as we couldn’t have anyone at our house. The most hurtful thing their negligence killed my 5-year-old dog. And I have been sick since April (tested for COVID 3 times all negative, so it’s something in my house perhaps mould being there was mould on everything else). More tests for me, long road ahead with this house I loved, all we wanted which is rightfully ours is to be made whole as we had it before. They acknowledged my dog but said they would not be paying her vet bill when we had to put her down. I’m heartbroken and just want what I had before. At this rate, I can’t even see us getting a Christmas tree up and having a nice Christmas my favourite holiday and even being able to enjoy it differently on a holiday due to COVID. Thank you Intact for your lack of customer service and what appears to be a lack of human decency to really go the extra mile for your customers.
