Like Banks, like Insurance

I did not know what I have been paying for more than 12 years, until I started to read the fine prints and compare the paperwork TD Primmum has sent me year over year. I had one claim, eight years ago, for burglary theft under $3,000 - no problems there, good experience overall. Forward to recent times, for the past three years, TD Primmum increased my premiums by approx. 10%, with no change in coverage, claims, etc. I did not even have Earthquake coverage. Even after discounts and mortgage being paid off, they wanted me to pay $1,400+/year for less coverage than other insurance companies, more honest and less greedy. RBC and BCAA are also very expensive. Finally, I cancelled my insurance renewal and was able to find much better coverage, for under $1,000/year. I am probably going with West Insurance. Insurance is another industry profiting from greed, deceit and confusion, all by design. I can't even begin imagining what old folks, the disabled, immigrants or those hard-working people that are busy to survive are going through, having to pay much more, for way less. The Government does not protect those who pay their salaries and fat pensions...

Rude or Stupid ?

I phoned Primmum to ask why my home insurance policy was increasing at an alarming rate each year, even though I had never filed a claim. After a long string of garbage that made no sense, I was told to buy elsewhere if I didn't like the price. So I did. I had been claims-free for 11 years at the time … Primmum sucks the big one !!!

Scammers?

So, I was with Primmum for about 4 years. And while I was paying them, all was fine and dandy.
Then I moved and needed to cancel my insurance. That's when I discovered how dishonest they are.

I called them a month in advanced, let them know of my move out date. All was well.
Two months later, I'm settled in at my new place and suddenly I get a letter saying that I owe them $400.
Apparently they didn't process my cancellation and were saying that I owed them money for not renewing my insurance. After a heated discussion, I agreed to the $95 penalty as, while they were the ones at fault, they refused to admit to it. Fed up, I agree to pay and just never deal with them again. I ask them to send me an invoice.
Three weeks later I get another invoice saying I owe them $200! I call, ask them what happened. The girl on the phone said there was some error that that they would send me a new invoice.
Finally, I get the new invoice. I send them a cheque.
Another month passes. Suddenly I get a notice. Apparently they got my cheque but magically replaced it and now they demand I pay them directly via my bank.
I'm convinced this company is out to scam every penny they can out of their customers. First by not processing my cancelling and attempting to charge me, then overcharging me, then conveniently losing my cheque so that I pay them through my bank and then they'd probably go ahead and cash my cheque!

This company is nothing but a bunch of criminals! I'm going to pay to put a stop payment on the cheque and stay as far away from these crooks as I can going forward!
