5 year ongoing claim

by Samantha on Dec 9, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

We had some major ice damage to our home in the storm of 2009.

First of all the work done by RSA's contractor, Belfor Restoration was incomplete and of poor workmanship.

Some examples: The destroyed gutter on one wall was replaced with only 1 downspout at one end instead of the original 2 (one at each end, the explanation being that 1 is sufficient for the length of our gutter. The result was that all the rainwater went into the yard instead of into a ditch where it could drain away.

In replacing the destroyed retaining wall behind the house, the work was done by a sub-contractor who did not follow building code: result was after 3 years of battling and engineer finally made the changes to bring the wall up to code, but the drainage still did not go into the original ditch. Instead it now went under the house, resulting in mould. The construction company simply put a fan under the house to dry out the mould, but did not do anything to redirect the water from the wall into its original ditch, instead directed the water from behind the wall into our yard, creating a swamp.

Now we have a permanent moisture problem in our basement, which was originally bone dry. This problem is still not resolved after 5 years!

The original drainage ditch has been destroyed, filled with refuse, causing moisture and drainage problems and shrinking the size of our original parking area.

Furthermore, the contractor dumped his refuse and cement into our garden -hoping it would be hidden by the plants on our steep hill. It is still there.....

Unusual weather created flash flood

The restoration co. Sent to clean up caused more damage than the flood. It’s a trickle down payout that everyone gets a ‘piece of the action’.
We refused their blanket write offs - therefore you don’t get full replacement $ coverage.
We refused their chosen contractor therefore you don’t get the full dollar amount.
It’s a scam. Only use insurance if you absolutely must!!!

Don't trust TEA for anything

by Mark Anthony on Dec 15, 2020

We had a burst water main pipe inside our home you could hear it gushing on our bedroom wall. After chasing RSA for weeks they finally sent some cowboys to stop the leak after 12 weeks, yes 12 weeks it must have cost me a fortune in calls etc. Then one of their contractors decided to steal one of the legs from my dishwasher TEA response "it's your word against his", so they let thieves work for them. I would advise anyone to avoid using this company as it's not the first time they've done this to us, even having a cowboy team repair our car that was damaged in a bit and run. Absolute garbage company.

Emergancy cover

by garry on Jul 29, 2017
2 out of 5 stars

Hi
Have emergency cover with RSA and my boiler had no power.
Rang them up and engineer came within the hour and said we need new pcb.3 days later came back to fit and still didn't work so 2 days later came with another and all heating and water worked. Only problem the boiler heating of radiators stays on and only way to stop it is by turning the boiler off. Rang RSA and they told me that they had solved the emergency problem of no boiler so the emergency cover is done, even though I now have to turn the boiler off to stop the radiator heating.
Half a job done, never again.
Garry
