I have lived in my home for 22 years and in the last 4 years my home insurance cost has doubled since 2013. In the first 18 years it would only increase 50-75 dollars a year, now its 300-400 per year. This is ridiculous and outrageous. Who sets these prices? My wage does not jump that much a year if any. Its getting to a point that a person can't afford a home because of these extreme costs.
Have had 3 break and enters in 4 months, the last break and enter I lost 20,000 dollars in property stolen,so I made a claim on the last one. my coverage was 10,000 max. I submitted the forms and then was told that that's blanket coverage (not when I bought it) 5 years ago. I was also told because I didn't have 80 percent coverage of my property value I am not covered. So a 4000 a year premium for 5 years for nothing! Not impressed. Not a phone call in the past 5 years regarding my coverage. If I was made aware of this at time of insurance purchase I simply wouldn't have. The brokers I purchased from misrepresented my insurance coverage, and has cost my family close to 40,000 from lost property and premiums.

I was away from my house for 4 days and when I got home it was 130 F in the house. My thermostat failed and the furnace continually ran. The person that came to fix the problem has worked on furnaces for 40 years and has never come across this problem. Needless to say there was over $60,000 of damage to the house including cracks, wall deformation, flooring damage and the list goes on. The appraiser came took some pictures and says "I got some bad news this is not covered because your thermostat is a wearing item". Now how can they say this is not covered when a professional furnace installation person has never seen this in 40 years. Good job, SGI, pull some more excuses...
