Doesn't anyone at the Personal speak English? I am sick of dealing with people I have to talk down to like a 3-year-old. I send emails and I get "Please call one of our experts" blah blah blah. The last person left her extension but not her number and the number recorded was just for outgoing calls. Give us a break or we will find someone else to do our business with.
I had been a Client with the Personal Insurance company for over 15 years, I tried to process a claim in February of 2013, My adjuster was one Ed D. Ed never called me once or made any effort to process the claim, he returned no calls. He had tasked Claim Pro from Calgary to handle it. I at first was not satisfied with their efforts but after I spoke to the Office Manager Scott B., I was informed that he could help proceed certain aspects of the claim, he was told by Ed not to do anything that could bring this claim to a satisfactory conclusion. Only when the claim had reached 2 years, did he finally reply. I contacted my Ombudsman and was informed that although I was incarcerated, I had given instruction to handle the claim through my sister Sharon N., who has Power Of Attorney. She was never once contacted and only at this point after going to Ed D.'s supervisor, I was given an extension for his disregard of his duties as an adjuster on the said claim. Now I once again have been told by Ed D. that after providing a loss of statement in the office at Claims Pro in Calgary, not only did I not provide a Loss of Property report, I had not provided a Police report. I have since tried to obtain a police report and now once again have been informed by Ed D. that he can do nothing for me. I must say now he finally has learned how to reply to my Emails.
We went on vacation and on our first day away we had flooding in our basement when the power went out and our sump pump didn't work (this is how we found out our battery backup was also pooched). Luckily we had a housesitter. We weren't worried because we assumed we had groundwater coverage. Come to find out that's optional and we didn't take it at the time because the policy was taken out before we took possession of the house. We were just told by the Personal that it isn't their job to review our policy with us (this is years later). So whose job is it? They'll take your money but will fight you on covering you.
These people must truly want their customers to go elsewhere. A recent basement flood led to the worst customer (non)service experience possible. They contracted out the claim so we had to deal with someone not at the Personal. This person conducted a recorded interview, making us feel like we had purposely flooded our own (unfinished!) basement for some sort of gain. The assessor sent from Paul Davis systems turned out to be inadequate (despite the Personal having dispatched them) and we never got to see their full estimate. We had to provide 2 others, from companies we contacted. Delays in service caused further damage, and the Personal refused to cover more than about half of the clean-up and repair work (they would not cover us for the amount in our policy, but only half; very petty considering it was a relatively small claim), leaving us on the hook to cover the costs. To add insult to injury, they tried to issue payment to one of our service providers, instead of us (the customer), when we had already had to pay multiple different people involved in the clean-up. Never, never, never deal with this company. They should not be in business as they are unprofessional and not dependable.
Recently, first time ever I file a claim with The Personal due to the water damage. As always told/believed, you only find out about insurance when you make a claim and I experienced it when told what is covered and NOT covered. Anyway I went with their assessment. They deal with Paul Davis Systems who carried out the assessment. What a joke -
the guy showed with nothing and had to borrow a step stool and a ladder to look for issue. Also called and provided the feedback to claim adviser which, I am sure, was commented as a standard apology and surely ignored - never will make it to the next level. So far very unhappy!
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
My basement is flooded for 13 days today. No adjuster visited it yet even after leaving numerous vm & email. No one should go through this horrible experience after paying to them all these money. No excuse for this kind of irresponsibility.
Filing a claim has been a total joke. The claim's officer has stalled for 2 years trying to avoid paying out the claim. He "loses" information, then tries to claim it was never sent in.
His superiors play the same games and nothing has been done to address the issue. It's been an absolute nightmare with no end in sight.
Steer clear of this company!
My entire basement flooded and I had flooding insurance, and it was a nightmare with the adjustor who didn't send in the paperwork, and the company was difficult, wouldn't call me back when I left messages, and wouldn't call me back PERIOD! It took a year of fighting with them to honour my insurance, and they kept telling me "you know, you're just lucky to have this insurance." I told them I paid for that insurance, and they said "well, yes, that's true." I had to get their ombudsman involved their service was so dishonest and poor. I had over 30k damage and fought and fought with them. Then my car was hit by lightning, messed up the electrical and blew out a tire, and they told the garage that I was probably lying! This was AFTER they took photos of the tree it hit first and the trench it dug when it moved to my car and hit it. My car was almost brand new. The garage said they had never had so many problems with an insurance company. I cancelled my insurance immediately on renewal and went with Allstate instead. Have never had a claim since, but the Personal Insurance Company was absolutely awful. I actually thought I might have a nervous breakdown dealing with them over and over.
We are struggling with this company ever since we switched it. We were with TD just before the fire and not sure why we changed-the only reason was I was with Nexen-CNOOC ltd and the Company recommended them to be used. I should have thought about it but who knew that we have to flee the Fort McMurray residence due to wild fire?? To save the insurance claim amount we adjusted ourselves to a Single bedroom apartment donated by a good samaritan at Edmonton for a family of 5 but Insurance is questioning that nominal rent as well. They delayed from May till End January without doing anything but when we did with our own contractor the things are being questioned. I lost my job in September last year and struggling to pay the contractor and to also maintain my family here. The shingles were replaced due to amber marks but insurance is questioning that. How can a visual assessment could reveal the condition? Also the siding is replaced all the sides but Insurance is agreeing only for 2.5 sides-not sure what is the basis for that as all the sidings are visible from the road. Inexperienced and incompetent adjusters dont know any bit of the home claim and giving hard time for my family. Horrifying and terrifying experience. Dont even think of this insurance if you want mental peace
Smart people learn from others and less smart learn from their mistakes. I know I am not smart. But you can be. A while back someone said, "you only know if you have an insurance (of any kind) when you make a claim". VERY TRUE! My first claim in 10 years and after 10 days (5 phone calls and few emails) of my initial claim I have no answer on status of my claim.
