The agent was super rude and unsypathetic

Purposefully mixing and misinterpreting my responses while asking me many questions about my valid need for cancellation. An employee even lied about my responses and threaten me of using recordings (but she lied.. so I'm unsure how she plan on proving it ? I guess they will now just charge me and it will be up to me to prove I am in my rights) to force me into paying cancellation fees. If you think you'll ever need to move and change insurance, just pick another one right away.
I wish I would have known about this website before I made a decision to sign a contract with La Capital Insurance. I have experienced bullying, intimidation, blackmail and harassment. My home was never fixed, my damages were not covered. They manipulated documents and estimates, stolen property and caused more damage to the home. I see most reviews have the same pattern happening. I’m very sorry to hear that the elderly are targeted by this insurance company. I hope this changes because it is unacceptable to run a company in such manipulative and unethical practice. I think it deserves a class action lawsuit. This handling and treatment of people are wrong in so many ways. I will be looking at other options for my insurance.
After being 20+ years claims free clients, La Capitale took us (2 seniors) to the cleaners financially. It took them 14+ months to fractionally pay us the value of our water damaged contents and our time, even though our comprehensive insurance coverage was for full replacement value with no depreciation. We lost over $25,000 on that portion alone. The reconstruction estimate they gave us was short of reality by over another $25,000. We had to fight from Aug. 6 2019 until November before we finally got a cheque to begin repairs. Their 3rd party adjuster, GPC Gatineau, was a manipulative bully from day one. He lied, argued, and combatively made every step triple the work and stress for us. He arbitrarily made decisions that negatively affected us without ever informing us. Thank goodness all our communications were via email except the face to face interactions, which we would confirm back via email. When one has never gone through a major household claim, you don't know how the system works, what your rights are, what to expect, what to watch out for, what to have as proof before, during, and after the disaster. We will report La Capitale and GPC to all responsible organizations nationally, exposing just how unethical, devious, and outright bullies they are to their clients. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE 2 COMPANIES!!!
We finally got a court date last Tuesday, September 22, 2020, and they settled with my neighbour who also had a claim against them because our house was semi-detached with them, on Friday before September 19th, 2020. And then claimed that there was not enough time to prepare for the trial. On Tuesday. Under this circumstance the Judge suggested mediation. And if it was not settled by mediation which was September 25, we would have a New court date before the end of the year. Like November. The mediation was a disaster. The claim was for $1,600,000. One point six million and they offered $20,000. In the end, they wouldn’t go over $200,000. Two hundred thousand. I had gone down to $350,000 to get it over with. So we’re going to court. And we will add another $500,000 in damages for what I went through. My ex-husband was not affected, and they excluded him anyway. We think that they settled with him behind our backs. I suggest you check out their reviews before even considering them for any type of insurance.
First time I ever made a claim after countless years of being a customer. What a disaster of epic proportions. First, they NEVER return any phone calls. You'll leave endless voicemails only to be COMPLETELY ignored by their superb employees. You'll end up having to yell at someone to get any sort of service. This is par for them. Don't expect them to be any different from you. Then it took 3 MONTHS for them to do anything. As a reference, a friend of mine had 20 000$ of theft in his house. His insurance company took 13 days. I had a fire, La Capitale can't take 97 days. In the mean time? They'll keep ignoring your calls. So I have to move right? Well, they will keep trying to contact you where the fire happened. Yep. They won't try to call you. They won't contact you at the NEW address you gave them. Nope, they'll just cancel your insurance (while the case is still active mind you) and then start the harassment. Every two days, expect a threatening call from their billing department. I forwarded them to the cops and made a criminal harassment and threats complaint. This is still pending. But La Capitale will not stop the harassment. After the phone calls, they'll start spamming your email. You know, all these methods of contacting you they couldn't bother with before willfully cancelling your contract, probably illegally (the IBC are investigating them now). Basically, it's gross incompetence with a name, and that name is La Capitale. In their own words while spamming me endlessly: "Do yourself a favour" and go elsewhere. They will make your life 100 times harder than it should after losing everything you ever owned. Their job is to make sure you're out on the street homeless. Pathetic.
They couldn't care less about you. They'll take MONTHS to get anything done, will refuse to call you back, and don't even have direct deposit in 2019. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
Had a claim and it took them over 2 months to make a decision. Multiple phone calls and messages later they still refuse to speak to me or answer my questions. Claim denied, so obviously I am unhappy, and for reasons that were outright dishonest on La Capital's part. Above and beyond the claim, the customer service throughout has been horrendous. Stay away at all costs (literally)!!!
They tell you exactly what you want to hear. But in reality they don't do anything they say they will. You will waste a lot of your time dealing with them. If your time is worth nothing then go with la capitale. Otherwise I would pick a different company.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
La Capitale is horrible. I've been yelled at by their claims adjuster. I was told it would take 2 weeks for our claim to be processed. I'm still waiting for my reimbursement 7 months after submitting all the documents. Avoid this company. Even if the rate is cheaper. Not worth your time.

They told me I wasn't covered for the loss in cold terms.
There was fine print that was hard to find.
I was mistreated as a customer.
When I finally cancelled my insurance they wanted to charge me a cancellation fee even though they refused my claim.
When I threatened to sue them they waived the cancellation fee.
I would not recommend this company to my worst enemies.
