Charged me $200 cancellation fee for not renewing with them. Absolutely horrific and will not recommend at all.

Wouldn't go anywhere else

Had a roof leak that leaked into a top floor closet. They opened the file immediately and had a restoration company there within 2 hours of opening the file. Our claims adjuster re-read our policy to determine what we were covered for, and she made it happen. Within a week it was all put back together and fixed. She was awesome and explained things clearly. We were confident that we were working with people who care. A year later we moved places and had a plumbing concern that Strata was trying to blame on us. Again we had our previous adjuster and she took no information from our Strata and told them what was their responsibility and what we were responsible for. This is exactly why we bought house insurance, we wanted someone to stand up for us when something wasn't our fault and advise us of our options when it was our fault. This company has been awesome and I recommend it to all of my friends and family. I trust that our back is covered when we need it the most.

Waterclaim

by Mo on Jan 17, 2020

We were lead to believe through our broker that CNS would be a good company-good bang for the buck. Unfortunately and thru no fault of our own, we had a slow water leak from our dishwasher which sat under our floor until we noticed swelling and buckling to the hardwood. We called and filed a claim. Restoration company did some drying out with fans etc which didn’t work. The adjuster we were assigned worked with us. Very slow process. Poor communication. They did pay the claim but they were only responsible for the first $10,000.00. Our strata insurance picked up the rest and we paid the $1000 deductible. The claim and work ran from Feb-August! We returned home from vacation yesterday and Surprise... the broker contacted us to say we will not be renewed Jan 30th as we have been “dumped” due to a claim in our first year of being their clients. We have carried house insurance for 43 years. Different companies mind you but with the same broker. So, this is very upsetting as we are searching for someone to cover us due to this claim in the last year AND being denied renewal by this CNS company. Very upsetting-very scandalous. When we signed up for coverage by this company last Jan 2019 we were offered a disclaimer if we wished to pay $25 which would prevent us from being hit with an increase in coverage fees should we have a claim in that year. So, again, it sounds like a good deal. Paid the extra $25 but instead of raising our coverage cost they just keep our $25 and DECLINED to reinsure us. Why would a company offer a disclaimer in the first year of being their customer if they won’t cover you if you have a claim! Guess they are pissed due to not being able to increase our coverage costs so they dump us. We have become very conscious of supporting Canadian Companies over the last decade. So when CNS was offered to us we thought, sure, why not. Well, I have given you many reasons “why not”. Beware...

Avoid at all costs

by Jack on Aug 1, 2019

It's the most backward insurance company in Canada. Avoid at all cost. They have hidden costs, avoid providing a binder for mortgage companies, request fees for every move they make. The trick is to insure at first with lower payments and then start charging.

Worst experience

by Edwin on Jun 12, 2019

We are currently having our floors redone as we had a water leak. Our floors were levelled before and now they apparently won't be and requires levelling. The flooring company wants $1500 or they will void the warranty. The insurance company won't cover the costs. Complete waste. We will definitely be looking at another Insurance company when this one expires.

"Underwriting" cancellation

by Wondering about fraudulent insurance on Mar 27, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

CNS suddenly cancelled our insurance with 2 weeks notice, citing "Underwriting" as the reason. I have no idea what that means. Although they happily took our annual premium for 12 months (approximately $800), they felt that a premium refund of $103.00 for the remaining 4 months was sufficient. However, this appears to be a moot point anyway as they give no indication, when or how this refund will occur.

Completely incompetent

by Mike on Feb 9, 2019

Somehow after a brief discussion with an insurance representative this company signed me up for their insurance services after I had already chosen to go with another one. I called them and told that I never signed for anything and did not consent. They said there was nothing they could do and were not helpful at all. The following year they charge me again after I have already talked to them expressing I did not want or consent to their services or charges. Now I have to call my credit card company to report their fraudulent charges.

CNS says 'take it or leave it'

by Catherine Victoria on Jun 26, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Worst experience with an insurer ever. I have paid policies for decades and then claimed on a $2500 bike which I had verbally confirmed: "do I need a rider" and was told 'no - you have $2000 coverage' as in all of my prior years. The bike was stolen and well-documented by the police report and property manager with full receipts, and photos of the sawed-off heavy steel locks. CNS paid out a half and could not have cared less about my documentation or any further dialogue. "Take it or leave it". Apparently, coverage was now $1000 but I wasn't notified and the agent didn't automatically mail the policy to the new address that they were covering. The CNS agent was very difficult to get hold of, wasn't interested at all. The message I got was 'just go away - try to get your money from the broker'. This was my son's main transportation and was deeply important to him. CNS made a devastating loss much worse and it's still dragging on 10 months later. I would avoid CNS at all costs - it wasn't worth the bit of savings - we're still upset about it. I truly feel that they are in the 'payout avoidance business' rather than helping valued customers recover from a loss in an economic win/win over time.

Worst insurance company ever.

by Rob Burnett on May 21, 2018

We like so many others here have dealt with this company for many years with no claims. Now that we had a flood in our home CNS has crapped all over us. They try to screw you over any chance they get. We have had to battle them at every step. Probably going to have to take them to court to finish out this claim. They do not care about how you are suffering with the loss of your home. Their employees are as heartless as can be. Everyone we have dealt with from this company is totally incompetent at their job. DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM THIS INCOMPETENT UNFEELING COMPANY.
