The fine print.....

We had ZERO claims in over 15 years on our home but they kept phoning saying that they were providing a new service of coming in and inspecting our home to see if we were getting the best coverage. We were harassed repeatedly through phone calls and letters in the mail about setting up this new mandatory inspection to the point that we just cancelled our policy. It was just a cash grab to increase our policy. So now rather than squeezing more money out of us, they get none! Now we're with TD insurance and couldn't be happier!
Tried getting a quote and was told we can only do so over the phone--no emails whatsoever (I work nights, and this is pretty much impossible to do during regular business hours). After 3 weeks of going back and forth with information, I was told that the "insurance records" showed that my husband and I did not have any current insurance on our apartment or car, and that I had apparently only been insured under my vehicle from 2006-2008....I told him that is impossible as we have been paying insurance on both vehicle/apartment for 3 years, and that I have been insured and paying car insurance every month for over 14 years. After speaking with our current insurance company, we were told we are intact insured, and have been in the past.
A representative insisted it was not a problem on his end, and that the records don't lie. Kind of odd since i have banking statements for years showing Insurance payments coming out of our bank accounts.
This company tries to rip you off for sure!
After being assured by the agent that I was covered for everything and being sucked in to that warm fuzzy feeling, I found Co-Operators to be full of it. I insure everything I own with Co-Operators and have never had a claim. I pay them over $14,000 a year in premiums.( I own a lot of stuff.)
I had about an inch of water in my basement when some of my neighbours had 6 feet. It came in through a window well. Minimal damage but I thought I would use this a a test for them. No one from Co-Operators ever even came to my house when I got a letter saying I was denied the claim because the damage was caused by rain water. Co-operators is history with me now. Don't believe anything they say about multiple lines of insurance will get you better treatment. Remember NO insurance company is your friend. You have to play hardball with them
The service I received from Cooperators was always quick and I was treated with respect and care. With this said, I've never had to make a claim so I think that will be the test of their quality of service.
The experience was straight forward. However, The Cooperators, like quite a few insurance companies, gives you few coverage options. It's very like one-size-fits-all.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
I'm renting my building out so I was able to get flood insurance as a business. After the recent Calgary flood that caused major damage a cooperators adjuster came unannounced while I was out and when I came back started telling me how old everything was and that it's hardly worth anything. He could depreciate everything by 75% etc. but won't do it and only depreciate 50%. Now, I clearly did not buy the policy to have only 25% of the building covered. Those are bully tactics and they are clearly not acting in good faith or are instructed to do so.
I have Content and Liability insurance + Sewage coverage for my condominium. I've never claimed. The coverage is good enough for me, and is probably more coverage than I need. Getting a quote was easy, and combining it with my Auto Insurance worked out really well too. The Customer Service Reps on the phone were all friendly and helpful. I cannot complain at all.
Legitimate claim denied right away, rude customer service, didn't pick up a phone after claim denied. Rates are higher than average. In general - awful, stay away!
I am extremely unhappy with The Cooperators' terrible customer service & failure to pay claim. They were supposed to cover my Additional Living Expenses while I was unable to live in my condo for over 5 1/2 months. They paid for less than 2 weeks, & have refused to pay for the rest. It has been over a year since the claim was made, with no resolution. When they are not busy ignoring my claim, they have been fighting me tooth and nail. To get this claim resolved, I will now have to file a lawsuit against them, further increasing my out of pocket costs. They also have significantly raised my rates with a "claims surcharge" for a claim that was never paid in full.

After being a loyal Co-Operators customer for 29 years with ZERO claims on my automobiles, our home and our cottage, I had the misfortune of some rainwater entering a window and damaging the walls, etc.
When I called to make a claim, I was sent from person to person, with the end person on holidays! It took nearly 4 days to make a claim and then I had to email pictures of the damage. Within 5 minutes I had an email back indicating they were not covering the damage. WOW! I always felt I was covered for everything, at least that is what my agent said....They never came to inspect the home and following nearly $8000 per year in premiums this is the level of service and loyalty I should expect? Be very careful of this company, their commitment to customers is poor and you will be left leaving their office with false hopes and they will stick it to you when you need them.
