They try not to pay you for any reason. After submitting the dental claim, they didn't give me any response until I called them. Then, they need EOB. The thing is they should ask this early and let us know.
First and foremost allow me to say how terrible the authentication process is!
You can give them a blood sample and urine sample name and DOB, SIN and it all boils down to the address. If you forget the appt # you lived at in 2011 and have not received a statement in 7 years they will not help you...
What's more important and easier to obtain? A previous address or a SIN, full name, DOB etc.??? Their process is completely irritating and stressful. I now understand why so many customers are frustrated with this company as shown in reviews. No praise from me whatsoever...
A friend of mine sold life insurance and investments for Manulife. He passed away a few years ago. I let him use my office for free, for his courier/mail service to and from Manulife. After years of returning hundreds of envelopes to Manulife, requesting them to stop sending them, I eventually wrote to the President and received a nice response, but the mail never stopped. What kind of service are his clients receiving if his death and client mail is disregarded by the company he worked for? What kind of corporate monster is this?
My boyfriend recently passed away and he had life insurance through Manulife. I contacted them about his passing and the plant that he used to work at. The first time I called they couldn't find his policy so I need to call his old workplace to get the policy number. I called them back and the women I spoke to ended up not being able to find it she put me to another department and took them 2 minutes to find the policy. They told me that I would have to get papers filled out by the company he had worked for and then there were parts I would have to fill out. So I called his old employer back and told them they said that they found his paperwork for the insurance and that I wasn't the beneficiary and that she would contact them to see if he had changed it. So the insurance got back to her and told her there was no active policy at the time of his death which doesn't make sense because he was getting disability payment through them so he would have to have an active policy and why would the women I spoke to before tell me to get the papers filled out and send them in if the policy wasn't active. So I don't know if I should call them again to see if I can get a straight answer out of them or not. Seem like they don't know what there doing.
I have had to deal with Manulife for years as they are the provider for my employer's group benefits. I've had the same employer for about 7 years, so I've had multiple interactions with Manulife. They are ALWAYS hard to deal with, representatives are incompetent, and after the experience I just had I am absolutely convinced they are crooks who are likely scamming thousands of people out of money they are entitled to. Through my work benefits, I am covered 100% up to $3000 for Mental Health Services (in my case, I was submitting a claim for a marriage clinical counselling session which as per the fine print in my coverage statement falls under an eligible practitioner). Get this... a 50-minute session at the clinic I attend is $130. That is a set flat rate and does not change depending on how many people attend. So if I do a session on my own - $130 - if I do a session with my husband - also $130. True to form, Manulife only reimbursed me half of the cost of the appointment because my husband isn't covered under my plan. This should not matter! If a marriage counselling session was say $200 instead of the normal $130 I would completely understand why Manulife wouldn't cover the additional cost for someone who isn't covered under the plan...BUT THERE IS LITERALLY NOT ONE PENNY MORE COMING OUT OF MANULIFE'S BUDGET TO PAY ME OUT!!!! It's gut-wrenching that amidst global crisis all I'm trying to do is seek mental health services and a company that nets billions of dollars each year is trying to scam me out of $65 because "that is just how it's processed". I sincerely hope someone starts investigating this company because they are horrible.
Manulife insured a school trip well before COVID-19. The trip was cancelled just before departure. A claim was submitted with the exact required paperwork. The families were told it will take time to process. 6 months have passed. Parents getting extremely frustrated. Repeatedly Manulife said it was only delayed due to claim. They even told us the settlement would be in early September. Now they say they are waiting on additional request paperwork. This is the first anyone had heard of this. They are stalling. Some parents are going to the major media. Others are prepping to sue. The school districts should refrain from using Manulife moving forward.
My documents show that it was “on file “ that “ I am the beneficiary” for my spouse's basic life. Manulife is refusing to give the sum to me as the beneficiary due to them apparently not being able to find all their necessary signed paperwork. When did someone apparently not doing their job become my responsibility and problem? If when my spouse would go online and print out their benefit plan and everything shows that they have on file the correct designated beneficiary and so forth how is it fair that when it comes down to having an issue that money accordingly that they deny the stated beneficiary the amount as the beneficiary because they can’t find their ‘signed’ paperwork. Our documents are our confirmation that all is in order. And then they suggest for the beneficiary to open an estate account that seems unnecessary and odd. Finally, after months of back and forth, they issue the cheque but not the full amount of my spouse's pay and in accordance to what they stated I was entitled to in a letter sent to me. Therefore, once again leaving me to wait for management to figure out the problem and more time goes by without receiving money that I am entitled to and not in the way that I feel it states I should receive it. In my experience, there seem to be a lot of discrepancies and I feel that during a very difficult time in my life Manulife made it more difficult mentally, emotionally and financially for myself. Based on my experience, I do not recommend Manulife to any company, person or family.
CROOKS. THAT IS WHAT THIS COMPANY IS! My Father paid into Manulife for over 50 years. He took ill and was in the hospital for a couple of months. He was put on life support at one point. Meantime his bill came in from Manulife, saying his policy was cancelled because he missed two payments. He lived by himself, the family lived outside the province, I contacted Manulife, and explained to them of Dad's illness, and asked them if I can make the payments when Dad comes home from the hospital? That I am very concerned about my Father's poor health, at this time they told me straight out that his insurance was cancelled and they could not wait for payments! Where did 50 years of my Father's hard-earned money go? That is how they treated my Father! I will never recommend this company to anyone, not even my worst enemy!
My wife passed away five years ago. She had purchased a life insurance policy from Standard life (bought out by Manulife) for $25000 and named me as the designated beneficiary. In the legal fun and games, the lawyer for her estate filed a "statement of claim" against her pension from Alberta Health Services. Just to confuse things and create havoc, he sent the document to Manulife, even though Manulife or the life insurance policy is not even mentioned. Apparently, Manulife's lawyers don't know the meaning of "designated". If I designate a beneficiary, then I want that person to receive that benefit. I would strongly caution others against investing in a company (Manulife in this case) that does not honor the wishes of their clients.
I was trying to change the payment method to annually from monthly as it will be slightly cheaper. The customer rep told me there is not such a thing. I just need to pay 12 X what I pay monthly. I explained that I have a quote and it shows cheaper and also other insurance companies always give me a better rate. But she kept saying no and I asked her to ask someone else she ignored me a few times. Now I am again to talk with another rep.
