Not at fault not paid

by EXmeloche on Sep 15, 2013
1 out of 5 stars

Was in a parked car with engine turned off. Other party smashed into the vehicle. Was apologetic and even wrote a sorry letter. Yet the insurance company took over one year to decide that it was 50 percent my fault for sitting in a vehicle without the engine on and legally parked and getting hit by someone to acknowledged responsibility. Would not pay for my deductible. Had to take them to small claims court for them to pay.

Cancelled my home, and three vehicle insurance at the next renewal and paid only a few bucks more for an insurance company with a reputation of paying when they need to.

If you are filing a claim with them read your rights on the FSCO website because they depend on your ignorance to deny you.

To Avoid

The worst customer service experience ever! Every time I called I had to wait 2 hours. The agents always hung up the line and I always had to call back and wait the 2-hour queue. So unreliable. I had a claim issue. They never kept me posted with the claim.

nothing but talking heads

After a 25 year clean driving record and over 10 years with this company I made the mistake of calling them to say that is backed into a post and wanted to know what my deductible would be and how it would affect my premiums. They could tell me only what my deductible was. They couldn't tell me how it would affect my premiums because that isn't calculated until renewal???? I say fine, I'll leave it and pay for the repairs myself. That's when she said that it would still show up on my record as an at fault accident. I went up the monkey chain a couple of levels and got the same canned reply. One supervisor thought that maybe the premiums wouldn't go up that much if I didn't complete the claim. This outfit is a ripoff. They suck you in with big alumni discounts and then jack up their prices yearly. Don't ever use them.

Crooks and liars

TD is quite simply the worst provider I’ve had the misfortune to deal with. They are chronically understaffed, ill-trained, and spout lies to their clients like the rest of us breathe oxygen. After the Calgary hail storm, my claim was mishandled from the word go. My rental car was forgotten, the claim was shuffled from one buffoon to the next, and my vehicle couldn’t be kept track of to save my life. TD offered little more than vague excuses and non-committal rhetoric to avoid taking responsibility for their monumental failures during this entire process. The only reason I’m not cancelling my policy before it’s termination date is to avoid giving these clowns any more money after they failed to provide the service I’ve paid for thus far. If you have any sense, please learn from my mistake and avoid this company like the proverbial plague and take your needs somewhere else. I pity the poor person who has to deal with this den of crooks and liars.

It's time to switch.

I have auto and home insurance with TD. My husband called recently to add his car - he was placed on hold for over 1 hour. He had to end the call only to later be put back on hold for another 1 hour. I've reached out to TD online and they've not been helpful - just trite statements about "higher than normal call volumes." I do not think they value customers at all. I see that others have had similar experiences. I had to make an auto claim 5 years ago, and they were not helpful. They did not cover the full cost of a rental car after a car accident. I ended up paying $2000 out of pocket. This, along with my recent experiences with TD, makes me think it's time to consider other companies. I have another property insured by a different company and have been very happy with them. I will look into quotes with other companies when it's renewal time with TD and move on. If you are considering TD Insurance, I suggest you look into other options instead.

inefficient and incompetent

Word of advice. Never use TD Meloche Monnox. Worst customer experience I’ve ever had. I was calling in regards to a small crack in my windshield caused by flying debris during a windstorm. I was originally on hold 20 minutes. I understood the windstorm caused fairly widespread damage which caused them to be very busy, so this was acceptable. The conversation went as expected, and a claim was about to be filed. My last question was “is this going to affect my premiums?”, which to me is a fairly normal question. He responded that he was unauthorized to answer that question. So here I go back to the 1800 number. This wait was over an hour to only find out that it is standard that my premiums will not be affected. A very black and white answer (that the previous person should have been able to answer). I was then transferred 3 more times to the wrong department who said there was no record of my claim being started. Finally, I was transferred back to the original department I was talking to who said that my claim was a click away from being filed. This whole debacle took well over 3 hours for a small crack in my windshield. Takeaway: Rather than having one person who can answer all your questions, they have fragmented their services into various departments that have little to no communication between one another. It seemed as if they didn't even have access to the same information. I felt as if I talked to 5 different companies rather than one. My advice would be to read other reviews and shop around before choosing an insurance company. I wish I had done this before selecting Meloche Monnex

Unacceptable service

by Nah on May 3, 2016

I was switching vehicles and called TD to get my insurance switched to my new car. I waited on hold for over 1 hour and 15 minutes. Unacceptable. After I got through to someone, I expressed how important this call was, as I was picking up my new car the next day and needed the insurance papers faxed to my dealership in order to pick up my car. The rep was extremely unhelpful, and did not finish my requests. This resulted in me not being able to get my car when it was supposed to be picked up. I am extremely disappointed and will be switching my insurance with a new company because the service you provided was extremely unprofessional, and unacceptable.

Discrimination and Bad Service

by ESchool on Jun 3, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

I was previously a Meloche Monnex customer for several years up until 2012, due to the "discount" offered by my university for the group policy. At the time, I thought it was a great thing, but the adage of "you get what you pay for is true". I submitted two claims through them where they decided I was "at fault" - one a driver who by his own admission was asleep at the wheel reversed his car into mine (so, I rear-ended him, apparently) and the second, where I was rear-ended by a taxi driver, and I apparently "backed my car into the taxi" while I was parked at the curb. With this second claim, the insurance adjustor, the taxi driver, and the witness were all of the same ethnicity, so naturally they would all share the same story.
Due to my experience I can say with confidence that TD practices and endorses discrimination and abuse of their position. Go anywhere else and you will have a better experience.

Buyers Beware

by marisakeller on Sep 3, 2012
3.5 out of 5 stars

TD Insurance did offer me a competitive auto insurance. However, the two main issues I had was with an accident claim (now off record) and heavily rising premiums the past couple of years, despite a good driving record. My claim for a US accident (not at fault) was not dealt with well. Due to slow case processing and a lack of will to pursue the incident due to complications with cross-border rules, I did not find the claims process fair nor easy to deal with. Despite not being at fault, I ended up taking a premium hit and absorbing the claim. Also, premiums have risen $1000 the past 2 years, a huge increase, merely due to the demographics of "other" drivers that live in the same neighbourhood. Where good driving and loyalty were once both considered a factor in competitive insurance rates, I find more recently that this is not the case and will be re-assessing my options upon renewal.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Rates are several hundred dollars cheaper and any quote I've been able to get online. Never had any problems with claims, they pay shop directly. Only issue I have it having to pay the deductible for a hit an run.
