Completely disgusted by the ‘service’ I have received. I had an accident nearly a year ago that I believed to be a scam against myself. A guy in the car next to me who saw everything and thought what happened was dodgy got out of his car, gave me his details and told me he was more than happy to stand as a witness. I gave Aviva his details and told them I wanted it looked into. I have heard nothing since and this was in January this year. No calls, no paper work, nothing. I assumed that Aviva had spoken to the witness and after speaking to him known that the situation wasn’t as it seems and everything had been dropped. Then when I go to insure my car today I find out that where I should have 2 years no claims discount, I have none. After calling Aviva to find out why, I have just found out that Aviva paid out to the other party therefore affecting my no claims discount. All of which I was completely unaware of. I was never contacted or given any paperwork to suggest that this would turn into a claim on my policy. I never had to fill out anything or sign anything. The last conversation I had about this was of January this year to give Aviva the witness details and to tell them I wanted the situation looked into as I believed it was a scam. The best bit is that the witness I gave was never contacted. Apparently you made a judgment call and didn’t call him, surely if I am paying for my own policy if I give you a witness and tell you I believe it to be a scam you would at the least contact the witness. Is this not what I pay for? After speaking to your so called manager (Thomas J.) who was rude and completely unhelpful I am then told there is nothing he can do and it will take up to 8 weeks for my complaint to go through the system. So in those 8 weeks am I meant to just sit around and have no car? I then asked for proof of the total amount paid out to the other insurance party, just an invoice or a receipt, something that proves you paid this money to them and surprise surprise you can’t give this to me. So although you have apparently paid out to this third party against my policy I’m not allowed proof of this!? I am absolutely appealed and disgusted by this and will be taking this matter higher and making sure everyone I know never uses your disgusting company.
Also it's funny how my dad has just called you and you told him you would send me the proof in the post to me. So clearly your advisors have seen they're talking to a 20 year old girl who they think doesn't have a clue about cars etc, so they can get away with fobbing me off. Disgusting.
They called me at work today to tell me that damage to my car was wear and tear! The nerve. After being an RBC customer for more then 15 years, paying them without issue over the years, never had an issue with RBC insurance until Aviva took over the car insurance, this is the fist claim filed with Aviva. The rep told me flat out that the estimator report said it was wear and tear. You have to a complete idiot to believe that! It is very obvious it is not wear and tear! So I was pretty upset with Aviva, so she then said she will call the estimator and speak with him. So I called the estimator myself, and he said he put on the report this is a legitimate claim, never mentioned anything about any wear and tear. And he was not contacted by Aviva, he said he would contact them to try and straighten it out. I am going to cancel all my insurance with them. They are going to lose on this one not me!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Moved to the states couple of weeks ago and informed them about the move. And I told them that I would get insurance from the states and will cancel their insurance as it was time for renewal of the contract and I didn't see a reason to renew it. Yet, they renewed it automatically with a rate hike without getting my approval and got the money from my bank account with the new rate that I didn't approve just before the renewal date. The date I was planning to cancel while checking my bank account, I was shocked when I realized that they renewed it and got first month taken from my bank account without approval.

This is by far the worst insurance company I have ever been with. Someone hit me recently. I let the adjuster know I was leaving the country and I needed to know what was going on. He said he would let me know within the week. I heard nothing. Called three times and left two emails with no response. I called and had it escalated and he miraculously called me the next day. He told me they still had no decision about whether my car would be deemed a total loss (three weeks after the accident and an estimate was done at the very beginning of the claim). He said he would let me know by the next day. Heard nothing for three more days. Called today to say it's a total loss and stop driving it right now. Told a rental car would be provided within fifteen minutes they would call me. Two hours later no call. Called adjuster and he didn't answer. Office is now closed, I have no rental and can't drive my car.....Guess I have to cancel work. I pay good money for my insurance, and an accident that wasn't even my fault has now put me out because my own insurance company is lazy and incompetent.
I will try to keep this brief. No adjuster contacted me for three working days after I phoned immediately (during working hours) from the accident. The body shop and towing compound sought out me over the next several days because they were not getting information to proceed from AVIVA. The body shop contacted me for approval of repairs while AVIVA failed to inform me of any progress (they had been debating write off versus repair). I contacted AVIVA for information. The adjuster eventually (several days later) told me that although extensive damage that the car was repairable because the damage was less than 70% of the value of the car. I pointed out that, with simple math and the value and damage figures they provided to me, the damage exceeded 75% of the value, without regard to the 20% contingency that the repairs might grow by because the extent of repairs was hidden. The response was to up the valuation of my car by $6000 to make the math work. I requested a supervisor because nothing made sense and because the adjuster was bulling me into accepting their terms and if I didn't agree immediately to their terms I must assume immediate possession of vehicle including charges to remove from body shop and expenses to date and accept a cheque that would not cover repairs. The supervisor the adjuster handed me over to (by my request) turned out to be just another adjuster but fooled me until after I was beaten and agreed to AVIVAs terms. All of this happened when the other parties insurance accepted full blame and costs from the start. You never know how good your insurance is until you submit a claim!
My left knee was almost destroyed I now have a steel plate and six steel screws. Aviva from day one has denied all physio and theraputic needs. I have 200 pages of denials from this insurance company. They love to up premiums yet try very very hard to minimize payouts. My Income Replacement benefits were very low until my lawyer got tough with them. Recently they messed up the direct deposits of said IRB's. They have sent every paid "expert" that they can send to disallow my injuries.
As I mentioned a full medical surgury team worked on my leg for 7 hrs I had 125 staples that resulted in a 14 inch scar down the front of my leg. The top of my calf bone was sheared off and had to be replaced with a flat steel plate. Yet Aviva is trying to weasel their way out of their contracted obligation.
My spouse was hit by a person coming out of a parking lot onto a street.
Officer deemed it non-reportable ($2000 damage on our vehicle alone), no ticket issued and no police report. Aviva started to pay lost wages to my spouse but then stopped 2 days after she saw their doctor.
She did have a pre-existing neck injury that she had been seeing a pain specialist for and was making good progress with it until the accident. She hasn't been able to work since and her pain specialist continues to recommends that she not return to work. How can a doctor that spends 30 minutes with a person be more qualified that a doctor that has spent almost 2 yrs. treating that person determine what they are capable of doing day to day.
I would stay away from this company. Can't wait for this claim to close so I can change companies.
If there was an option for no stars at all I would have put that. I got into an accident in January of 2013, I have sustained neurological/muscular injuries that are permanent (from the accident, that is confirmed by all the specialists I saw) and every time a specialist submits a treatment plan, they refuse!!! On top of the emotional/physical stress from the accident I had to deal with the stress of them refusing everything. They are unreasonable people to deal with, very unprofessional. I would recommend anyone but them.
Someone said that I rubbed the soda of their car pulling in to a parking spot. Tries to claim and injury and pre-existing damage. I took over 15 pictures and when the investigator for aviva may with me he looked at the pictures and said there's no way that damage came from my vehicle. There were no marks on my vehicle which was filthy at the time so if it had made contact it would have shown on my number. Nothing. Investigator told me I shouldn't worry because the evidence is in my favour. Fast forward almost a year. Go to get new insurance and find out that aviva paid this guy out $1800! For a tiny scratch on his door that I DID NOT CAUSE!! Now my premium is DOUBLE. Very upset with aviva and nobody there will give me a straight answer. Despicable. Will avoid these people and will never recommend anyone to them.
I have always believed that the relationship between myself and the insurance company is based on 'trust'. I have lost trust in Aviva. I was involved in a accident involving others. Stopped at the crosswalk when a vehicle half the size of our SUV ploughed into the back of us. Aviva expects us to take a substantial loss of our vehicle. We were innocent. We were stopped at a crosswalk! To replace my vehicle will cost me between 3-5 thousand dollars. Tell me, does that seem fair? Unfortunately this site doesn't allow to choose '0'. So I have to choose '1' star. Claims experience is '0'.
