Unprofessional and dishonest

For the past 8 months they have been giving me the run-around after my RV was damaged after being sunk. The unit needed to be extricated using heavy equipment and ended up being twisted out of shape and cracked. The run-around started with Aviva Elete outsourcing the adjusters job to another company. That company in-turn outsourced it to another adjuster. I have had two major licenced shops check it over and they have deemed the unit beyond repair.I have sent all documentation and photos that their adjuster provided to the factory service center and they have quoted almost $180,000.00 to repair the unit.

Their appraiser had me drive the damaged unit (which was barely derivable and unsafe) to an unlicensed shop for inspection. He then came out with a quote of $30,000.00 which they insist I take in a cash settlement and have the repairs done myself. After I complained about that they had a local shop weld together a tie rod end so that they could order me to drive it over 300 miles away to have the Aviva adjuster look at it. It was one of the most terrifying drives I have ever had to make and it took over 8 hours to complete. The adjust did not show up and I was forced to leave the unit there for him to look at and make my way back home. It has been down there for over a month now and there is no way I can drive it back without the front suspension and steering being properly repaired.

There is no shop in the world that will even consider repairing the damages for the amount that they want me to settle for. I have 8 months of unanswered calls and emails from the worst customer service you have ever had to deal with. After asking to speak to their ombudsman I was denied the right to even bring my case to him/her. I was told that I can "hire my own appraiser" and they might consider looking at their findings. My next step is to contact the General Insurance Ombudsman and see if there is any help from that end.

In the meantime, I have purchased the aviva-insurancecomplaints domain name and welcome anyone who wants to share their horror story in dealing with Aviva.

Beware, IMHO these people are as shady and heartless as it comes and you will regret the day that you ever signed up with them.

Do Not Do Business With Them

I was hit by my neighbour. While I was in drive. They have deemed it 50/50 even though she had an obstruct to her view of my car. And because she says I hit her, but the witch is also suing for injuries. Can someone explain to me how you get injuries from backing out of a driveway. When you only have 5 feet to move?? So Obiviously she is just trying to get money from the insurance company! And it took them 6 months to tell me that it will be 50/50 and they didn't even try to fight it! They wouldn't take all the photos I had or my boyfriends statement into context, they just rolled over and said it was 50/50 so they could money off of both parties!!! Insurance companies are suppose to fight for their customers, not lay down and it!! Also I dealt with the worst customer serivce imagionable!! Once my car is fixed I am leaving this company and will tell everyone that will listen about my horrible experience I had with company.

Horrible Service....

I was in a car accident, I was hit by a driver with no insurance at a stop sign. He totaled my car. They had me a rental the very next morning ( that was the ONLY good part) I had a mazda 6 with nothing wrong with it ( other than the back wheel frame was starting to rust) I had 700$ brand new tires on it not even 2 months old.. They took 2 weeks to tell me they would offer my 1900$ for the car in total ( complete rip off, I had 5 appraisers tell me I could have sold that car for an easy 6000$) They informed me that they would cover the rental for 3 days after the offer. I told them that I didn't feel the offer was fair, and they said the rental would need to be returned regardless if I accepted or not because they gave me the offer.. So with work, 3 year old, 2 adults,1 person income..I was forced into taking the money... Told me I would have the cheque in 5 business days..... Well lord and behold.. a week and a half passes.. No cheque? Called in, "sorry, there was misconfusion and the cheque only got mailed yesturday".. So had to return the rental.. And took 3 weeks and 4 days in total to get the cheque... Horrible..
I was without a car for a FULL month.. I requested my mays payment back for paying for a month with no car... In short. They basically told me to bad so sad, screw you. I told them when the renew policy comes up I would not be renewing.. Their response to that was. " That's your decision"...
Injury claim was presented which I accepted ( only took A little over 2 months for them to make an offer)... Its now been a week, and still no cheque.. emailed them and "oops sorry, could take another 5 buisness days".
I requested it to go direct deposit into my account. They said "that is not an option we have".. Well jeeze. They sure don't mind taking my money out of my account directly.. But wont put it in directly..?

I'm still waiting on a lady to get back to me about loss of wages, medication cost, therapy.. The lady handling my claim emailed me.. I emailed her back with a bunch of questions.. And its been over a month and numerous emails.. And no response..
AVOID Aviva at all cost. Come September I will be switching for sure. 6 years with this company with no issues. 1 care accident and this is the service they give.

Very displeased with aviva

by Not Happy on Jun 18, 2015

I have recently stopped using Aviva due to the horrible customer service I have experienced using them; I had been with Aviva for about 5 years since I started driving. I didn't know until recently but they had been charging me Almost $100.00 more each month than any other insurance company I got a quote from.

In the last 2 years they have made numerous errors with my auto policy that resulted in me over paying on multiple occasions.

When I joined my home policy with my auto I was supposed to get a discount and received verbal and written confirmation that it was set up, only to find out that they didn't do it months later.

Although they eventually paid back the difference it took months to wait for them to give it back and I had to call them and leave numerous messages with no answer or reply.

It would appear that none of their brokers are competent in being able to manage their clients information and communicate with their coworkers about updates to their policies. I have had different brokers contact me stating that my information is out of date or incorrect when I had provided it correctly and have records of the conversations via email. This has happened many times. Their organization and care in dealing with clients is a joke from what I have experienced.

When preparing to leave Aviva my broker began to bad talk other insurance providers and warned that they will just rip me off and that their services suck. she essentially was trying to scare me into staying.

Based on my experience with this insurance provider and their team of brokers I highly recommend to NEVER insure anything with AVIVA. It is not worth the frustration, you will overpay for bad service and you will NOT be taken care of by careful and competent professionals.

Stay away from aviva

by Duck on Mar 19, 2015

This insurance is pathetic. It might be cheap, but it's not worth a penny. Having to deal with a claim is going to leave me grey haired and stressed out. The claim agents never answer the phone, never call back and never reply to emails. Even the managers are the same. Waiting for adjuster to estimate the damages is another story, I honestly don't know what kind of incompetent people work there.
Again, stay away from Aviva, I know I will. Better to pay more, but have a piece of mind.

find another company

In October 2014 (nearly 5 months ago) my 11 yr old daughter and I were in a rear end collision. Both receiving injuries! I have been waiting and struggling and fighting for my section B, loss of wages benefits. Granted my particular claim is a little more difficult because I am self employed. I have/had 16 clients. I was replaced by 4 in the first 2 weeks.... Because I work "under the table" proving my income has become VERY diffe and stressful. I managed to get just 6 of my original 16 clients to provide letters for the insurance adjuster. This was not enough. I then had 5 of those 6 provide audio recorded statement to a private investigator backing up their letters, as to what I so, and how much they pay me. Since the accident MOST of my clients have replaced me, some because of the lwngth of time i have been off, and some because i harrassed them trying to get them to contact my adjuster. So, here I am, still not back to work almost 5 months after the accident. Its likely I won't have any clients to return to
Facing eviction, credit going down the tubes, unable to pay ANY bills, visiting the food bank just to get by, with a child. My adjuster has been notified of this, they do not care. My benefits still have not been paid. We will lose EVERYTHING, because someone else used my rear bumper as his personal breaking device, and Aviva does not care about the clients who hired them. This is a service I PAY for.... Well, as you may assume, I am canceling my insurance policy.

I understand my situation is more "complicated", but what do they want from me. I tried EVERYTHING to get my client's to cooperate with the company. Provided letters, provided interviews from 1/3 of my client's. The clients don't care, it's not their problem, they don't have the time to take from their busy schedules to talk to an insurance company, for services that I am no longer providing for them.

Unpleasant Experience

by Frustrated & Flummoxed in Toronto on Jan 4, 2015
2 out of 5 stars

My car was stolen in the middle of the night right from my driveway as I slept only a few feet away. That was July, 2014. Aviva farms out claims settlement to Cunningham & Lindsay who seem determined to prove to Aviva that they save them as much money as possible. So you get caught in bureaucratic finger-pointing. The policy offered a rental vehicle which I had to exchange after only a few days as it was like a coffin on wheels and not equivalent to the 2011 V-6 Accord that was stolen. Within several weeks, I received an offer prepared by Aviva via C&L who then pulled the plug on the rental vehicle leaving me with nothing to drive. I thoroughly analyzed the 16-page offer and phoned up all ten dealerships to check on the comparables cited. There was no car for sale that low mileage. The offer was very confusing, listing the same ten cars twice using different prices. And only two of the comparable cars shown were the proper model (V-6 NAVI) which retails for at least $2000 higher. This evaluation was unprofessional and bush-league. When I complained and said I was not accepting the offer, it took many weeks more to get a revision which obviously didn't have any further research, nor did it correct for the wrong model. All in all, I didn't receive a cheque until mid-October, three months after the car was stolen and two months after my rental was cut off. Don't go with Aviva and assume that you're going to be protected from something like theft or an accident that's a write-off.
There are two other morals to the story.
1) Don't expect the police to be very helpful. They may pat your hand and say, "There, there.", but a stolen car is either carved up in pieces or on a ship across the ocean within 48 hours. Car theft is big crime but nobody seems to be effective or they're all toothless tigers.
2) Go ahead, buy a Honda and keep it in showroom condition. After all, the third world needs more black market vehicles and Hondas and Toyotas are at the top of the list. Realize that if you take your car in for service (and mine had been just the week before), some car jockey can easily get the keys (even electronic ones) easily duplicated at a car parts store or by a partner in crime.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Sever lack of professionalism

Made a stolen vehicle claim. The vehicle was recovered in damaged condition. Was told the vehicle would be written off and I could expect the final paperwork to complete before the cheque would be issued. Received a call back two months later indicating that I actually did not have theft coverage on my policy even though this should have been the first thing Aviva looked into when I made the claim. Have had very little communications with them as they are unnaivailable. My claims representative has not been responsive to countless calls where I attempted to move the process along. Am still struggling with the company and their ombudsman won't even respond to emails. Meanwhile my car is still sitting at their auto mechanic shop...
