What a fantastic experience!!!

Not sure why there are these nasty comments here. My son had an accident and my car was declared scrap. My agent ( Roula A.) called me got me a rental right away. I was surprised by the amount of money that they gave me for my car. Once your care is paid you normally have 24 to 48 hours to return the rental, since my wife was in the hospital I had no time to shop for a new car. Therefore I asked Roula if she can extend the rental for an extra day or so and she did. She extended the rental not for one day but a full week. Thank-you very much Roula for you wonderful service, you are my angel :)

Below average experience

My car was written off early summer last year when a deer jumped out in front of my vehicle. Like many people said, they were very quick to get me a rental. However, upon settling on an amount they immediately demanded that I return the rental. This left me with very little time to make a decision about a new vehicle. No one should be rushed in this instance. Being in an accident is jarring enough. It can really derail you. Given a week I could have made a better educated decision about my replacement vehicle. I was really unimpressed with this.

Furthermore, I later found that their rates were so much higher than most other companies. I was paying $232/month. When I removed collision I was only dropped down to $211/month. Any other company I had give me a quote had me well in the $150/month range. It would be one thing if you got more for paying more but this really isn't the instance. My inexperience is what led me to go with Aviva in the first place.

No one I spoke with was ever rude. I suppose they had that going for them. Anyways, this is just a good example of 'buyer beware'. Do your research.

I got into an accident on July 06 2015. The first thing I did was called the cops, second was call my insurance company which is Aviva. After I made that second call you better believe it I was treated like a 1 year old baby. My agent, instructed me in terms of what to do, sent a tow truck to pick up my car from the parking lot and tow it to the collision reporting centre, sent a driver to pick me up so I can pick a rental car, I had an awesome experience. My agent was outstanding and her name is Susan F., very nice person at heart and at getting things done the right way. I was not as it fault by the way.. Aviva paid me off for my car and the sum that they paid me was more than I was expecting! Today I'm driving a Infiniti G35! Still with Aviva and don't think I'll ever switch! Thank you.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Horrible Service....

I was in a car accident, I was hit by a driver with no insurance at a stop sign. He totaled my car. They had me a rental the very next morning ( that was the ONLY good part) I had a mazda 6 with nothing wrong with it ( other than the back wheel frame was starting to rust) I had 700$ brand new tires on it not even 2 months old.. They took 2 weeks to tell me they would offer my 1900$ for the car in total ( complete rip off, I had 5 appraisers tell me I could have sold that car for an easy 6000$) They informed me that they would cover the rental for 3 days after the offer. I told them that I didn't feel the offer was fair, and they said the rental would need to be returned regardless if I accepted or not because they gave me the offer.. So with work, 3 year old, 2 adults,1 person income..I was forced into taking the money... Told me I would have the cheque in 5 business days..... Well lord and behold.. a week and a half passes.. No cheque? Called in, "sorry, there was misconfusion and the cheque only got mailed yesturday".. So had to return the rental.. And took 3 weeks and 4 days in total to get the cheque... Horrible..
I was without a car for a FULL month.. I requested my mays payment back for paying for a month with no car... In short. They basically told me to bad so sad, screw you. I told them when the renew policy comes up I would not be renewing.. Their response to that was. " That's your decision"...
Injury claim was presented which I accepted ( only took A little over 2 months for them to make an offer)... Its now been a week, and still no cheque.. emailed them and "oops sorry, could take another 5 buisness days".
I requested it to go direct deposit into my account. They said "that is not an option we have".. Well jeeze. They sure don't mind taking my money out of my account directly.. But wont put it in directly..?

I'm still waiting on a lady to get back to me about loss of wages, medication cost, therapy.. The lady handling my claim emailed me.. I emailed her back with a bunch of questions.. And its been over a month and numerous emails.. And no response..
AVOID Aviva at all cost. Come September I will be switching for sure. 6 years with this company with no issues. 1 care accident and this is the service they give.

We had our vehicle written off after a 'not at fault' accident. Aviva was very quick get us to return the rental vehicle that was promised to us with no limit on time.
They told us the amount they were covering to pay for our vehicle and that it was in the mail, so therefore return the rental. 8 days later no cheque (no rental anymore) and when we contacted them they said we did not say it was mailed yet and we just mailed it yesterday. BIG FAT LIE.
During these eight days I scrambled to find a new vehicle and eventually did but when it came time to buy it....no cheque still. The rude woman from Aviva came up with more mumbo jumbo as to why the cheque was not there and also implied that I was being somewhat of a pest. Bye bye Aviva...never again.

Unpleasant Experience

by Frustrated & Flummoxed in Toronto on Jan 4, 2015

My car was stolen in the middle of the night right from my driveway as I slept only a few feet away. That was July, 2014. Aviva farms out claims settlement to Cunningham & Lindsay who seem determined to prove to Aviva that they save them as much money as possible. So you get caught in bureaucratic finger-pointing. The policy offered a rental vehicle which I had to exchange after only a few days as it was like a coffin on wheels and not equivalent to the 2011 V-6 Accord that was stolen. Within several weeks, I received an offer prepared by Aviva via C&L who then pulled the plug on the rental vehicle leaving me with nothing to drive. I thoroughly analyzed the 16-page offer and phoned up all ten dealerships to check on the comparables cited. There was no car for sale that low mileage. The offer was very confusing, listing the same ten cars twice using different prices. And only two of the comparable cars shown were the proper model (V-6 NAVI) which retails for at least $2000 higher. This evaluation was unprofessional and bush-league. When I complained and said I was not accepting the offer, it took many weeks more to get a revision which obviously didn't have any further research, nor did it correct for the wrong model. All in all, I didn't receive a cheque until mid-October, three months after the car was stolen and two months after my rental was cut off. Don't go with Aviva and assume that you're going to be protected from something like theft or an accident that's a write-off.
There are two other morals to the story.
1) Don't expect the police to be very helpful. They may pat your hand and say, "There, there.", but a stolen car is either carved up in pieces or on a ship across the ocean within 48 hours. Car theft is big crime but nobody seems to be effective or they're all toothless tigers.
2) Go ahead, buy a Honda and keep it in showroom condition. After all, the third world needs more black market vehicles and Hondas and Toyotas are at the top of the list. Realize that if you take your car in for service (and mine had been just the week before), some car jockey can easily get the keys (even electronic ones) easily duplicated at a car parts store or by a partner in crime.

DONT USE AVIVA

my truck was stolen while I was travelling i had reported a claim to aviva , in this case i knew the individual who had taken and crashed my truck, my truck was written off. after battling for a month with aviva over trying to settle this claim, they stated that i had to press charges against this person in order to settle the claim (last i checked its the RCMP's job to lay charges towards anyone not mine, i can only give a statement) i argued this point to the insurance for a long time, further more although offered at first they stated i was not entitled to a rental car although i had been told in the past i had 900 dollars credit towards a rental "the case is under investigation without prejudice and im not entitled to one i can get one and ask for reimbursement later" i was told, finally the Sargent of the police station had to phone the agent to tell him that a warrant had been issued and they are searching for the individual involved so the agent authorized a rental for a week and offered me a claim now starts the low balling they offered me 2000 less then what i had found the fair market value to be on my truck i told them this they asked me to submitt 3 similiar trucks kms make model year so i found two that are similar other then that it is hard to find a truck of this calibre ( it was well maintained with low kms for its year) i found two they were not from alberta so she dismissed them i also showed her the appraised value on kelly blue book they couldnt open the link. i am still battling over this its month two.

this story it stands to show that as a customer with aviva your words carry no weight and they drag on this process to try and make you except there low offer i have had 3 different agents they all have taken leaves of absence and have literally only received one email a day from 2 of the agents although i have sent several different emails and questions regarding the proccess that they have said i have to follow and they do not answer there phone so dont bother calling you can only request that they call you back via email which will take a day to reply and set up a call time, as well they have made me jump threw many hoops with the RCMP who has also told me its to seperate things your truck being stolen and someone being charged with theift.

they do not have your best interest in mind and they are trying to save money they are not on your side.

First of all, I'm not sure how far this review will reach out to or if Aviva will even care about this but I need to write this because our family members are furious. On June 1, 2014 around 3pm, our mom's Sante Fe was parked on 17 Avenue 9A Street S.W., My brother and I came back to a car with a broken bumper snapped in half. There were several witnesses on site telling us that a black Ford F150 truck lost balance and his truck hit the left side of our bumper and because of its strong force, the bumper was snapped off. Thankfully, the guy left his phone number so we contacted him and tried to contact Aviva, which is his insurance. Despite our busy working schedule and needing a drivable car (I'm sure you get pulled over by a police if you drive in an unstable vehicle), both me and my brother tried calling Aviva about 50 times and there were no answers. My brother finally got a hold of the appraisal person, his name is Lyle, and he came to look at the car on June 12th, 2014 and told us Aviva will not cover any costs for replacing the broken bumper because he "magically" knew there were previous damages. For all we know, we had a little dent on the right side of our bumper which didn't cause issues or affect us in any way to drive the car. After arguing, he finally said he'll quote it for $500.00 to get the bumper replaced and wrote it down as a "drivable" car when we clearly can't drive it with that condition and refused to pay for a towing cost telling us to drive it to the body shop ourselves. My other brother works at a dealership and it's costing us at least $1000.00 for the replacement. First of all, Lyle was very rude to my brother Paul talking on the phone and Second of all, even if there were previous damages, we would like our old bumper back to how it was with a dent on the right for all we care. We drove this car with a bumper and now because of a truck hitting it off, we now have a car without a bumper. (Was drivable and now Not drivable) Third, it took forever for us to rent a car in the meanwhile (while we were waiting for Aviva to pick up their calls), we can't even get a hold of the adjuster Laura or her subsitute Lauren to confirm on the rental fees being covered by Aviva. I'm worried that Aviva will just put that cost on us in the end even though they reserved the car for us to use in the beginning. I believe we should be covered in full for this replacement of the broken bumper and we should not have to call you a million times to speak to any of you. This whole incident was not our fault and I don't feel that we should have to go through so much trouble. This may be just one of your claims or issues you have to deal with out of many, but to us, this has been a very stressful issue that we probably will not be able to forget even down the road in the future. I'm not the person to write reviews or complain about things often but this incident is giving me nightmares and I hate seeing our family stressed because it has been a difficult journey from the beginning. I hope someone reaches out to me regarding this matter and please step up to be a better company. Thank you.

Bad Service Overall

by mmhrh on Jul 23, 2013
1 out of 5 stars

Aviva uses a lot of brokers to sell their policies. The brokers will promise you everything to get you to sign in with them, however once you sign in and you get the policy papers, you'll find some changes than what the broker promised.

Overall quality of service is poor and they will definitely exhaust you first before they see all the mistakes they have done on 1 claim. If your vehicle can be fixed in 2 days, it'll take 2 weeks considering the amount of time it takes them to take care of a claim.

Also, if you have taken a rental, they will try to make you pay for some of it as their excuse is that the car could have been fixed in shorter period of time if you pay for it then bill them the charges.

Furthermore, It's exhausting to keep talking to an insurance company where all their rules and policies, none of it has any common sense or follows their written policy agreement. At the end of the day, they blame everything on the brokers and advise you to talk to your broker.

Bad Customer Experience

by insurance consumer on May 8, 2012
2 out of 5 stars

My car was damaged during an oil change at Midas Muffler. They sent me to Aviva. They told me I should claim the rental car on my own insurance. My own insurance agent told me I would be deemed ‘at fault’ if I did so. Eventually Aviva relented and agreed to pay.

Six months later, I got a call from the rental company demanding payment for the rental car. Needless to say, I was getting very annoyed at this point and called Aviva. Fortunately I happened to have kept my notes from six months earlier and had the name of the manager I had dealt with. Eventually, she agreed Aviva really should have paid for the rental car and came up with a somewhat complicated way to do so involving me paying for the rental car and then being reimbursed by Aviva.

This is probably the worst customer service experiences I have ever had and I would not go near Aviva under any circumstances.
