DO NOT get automobile insurance with this company. You will regret it. Got rear-ended by a distracted driver. The accident was witnessed by an OPP. The vehicle was totalled. Aviva made my life a living hell and my nightmares worse. Yes, I had full coverage. I was out of pocket $7000 difference on my vehicle and had to pay rental coverage to find a vehicle. They ended my rental coverage right after the payment was delivered which was not enough to cover what was owed on my vehicle. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.
My husband has been with this company since last year for auto insurance, so I joined his plan to save some money. Wrong. I was involved in a right angle collision at a T-intersection, where the other driver blew a red light and struck me just as I was clearing the intersection. The rep that was assigned my case didn't even let me finish telling her what happened before cutting me off saying I was 100% at fault for turning left on a yellow light. No mention about the other driver blowing a red light. My husband and I spoke to 2 different adjusters and both said the same thing then would not answer our calls or return our voicemails. We did all the investigating and grunt work. Definitely, do not recommend this company.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
No wonder they have a poor rating. Since the beginning of the claim process, they didn’t give us reassurance or support. The adjuster that we dealt with was unreliable, we had to chase her and call her regarding the claim. When we spoke to her, she told us that we’re approved, we are at no fault, therefore, the insurance would cover it. We have nothing to worry about. That’s what she said. She did not even discuss the deductible in this case. It took about a month and a half before we got the car to the shop because they’re waiting for the approval of the insurance. So we had to chase her down again. The communication with her was horrible. Then, after my car was all fixed, the shop was asking us for $1000 deductible as per my policy. Now, I understand my policy but we were confirmed by the Aviva adjuster that we are not at fault. The shop and two new adjusters kept calling us to pay as if we are going to run away, even left what sounds like a harassing voicemail. I PAY MY MONTHLY FEES ON TIME!!! When I called the adjuster many times, left a voicemail, she did not even call us back! Not one single phone call from her. We called the customer service of Aviva and no one can explain as to why the deductible applies. We are just asking for clarification because I don’t think no one in their right mind would pay $1000 right away without knowing why. It turns out that since the beginning we were already rated as at fault. We called the ombudsman and of course, they didn’t do a damn thing!! We have no problem paying the deductible if at least they have told us earlier or at the beginning of the process. We could have at least presented that we are not at fault. The communication was not very clear, they kept passing us from one person to another. The adjuster that we initially dealt with was nowhere to be found. We’re paying the insurance so that when accidents happen, there would be a little bit of relief knowing that they will back you up or support you. No, they just take your money and expect you drown. Vultures! So if you’re looking for a reliable insurance, find somewhere else. You wouldn’t find it at Aviva. All they do is take your monthly payment and left you dry and figure it out yourself. Very rude people, they don’t even pretend to listen.
They refuse 95% of genuine claims but want your monthly premiums to pay their blue-collar executives. Try making a claim - it's like you will end up with a breakdown.
Got into an accident without any fault. As I was standing on the red light a guy hit me from behind and I hit the car that was standing in front of me. The person who hit me left the scene and he was charged as hit and run. It's been over 2 months I am doing back and forth. They have no answer for my car. My claims adjuster is the worst person to deal with. She never answers her calls, I left more than 50 voicemail to her. I have called her and Aviva more than 86 times in just 60 days. All they want to repair is the body part and they are not even paying the full amount of body repair. The day I got into the accident my car stopped running and they don't care because they think the car stopped running not because of the accident. I just bought the new car 2 months before I got into the accident. Spoke with more than a dozen lawyers and no one wants to take the case just because they know Aviva is a difficult company to deal with. Pay $10-20 more and get a better company than going with such a company.
Had a 5,000 claim in 2015, in 2017 Aviva partnered with RBC as the underwriter and then they cancelled my insurance 1 month before my renewal!!! RBC said AVIVA sent me a re-application via snail mail (which I never received). Because I didn't "reapply within 2 weeks, they sent a "registered" letter informing me my policy is cancelled and they no longer want me as a customer. AFTER 15 years of being a customer, never missing a payment! No changes in my vehicles or driver rating. (They actually said they would NOT cancel my House insurance! LOL). BEWARE, Aviva now RUNS RBC insurance and the complaints line I called said they are targeting longtime customers and snuffing them out as most have a declining deductible clause (my $500 deductible was at $0 because of my 15 years of "Loyalty"), haha. They ACTUALLY said I qualify for the exact same coverage after the RBC agent issued me a quote and I would have NO lapse in coverage, HOWEVER, there would be $150 rate hike and I would lose all accrued loyalty benefits such as my declining deductible, which was at $0, so re-set to $500. RBC's bait and switch predatory practices are despicable, I don't believe they ever mailed me any re-application/renewal forms and obviously by not emailing me or calling me to notify me about pending policy cancelation (they had my email and home phone number on file for years) they obviously targeted me and are looking to get rid of long-term customers. The RBC insurance Rep apologized for AVIVA's unscrupulous corporate tactics as this is new to RBC, she sounded embarrassed after admitting she is getting multiple calls from longtime customers with similar complaints. Note RBC does not target new customers, within the last 2 years, rather longtime loyal customers they want to get rid of. Good luck RBC, I'm lodging a complaint with the Ontario Insurance Ombudsman and notifying my Union, my workplace as well as my friends and family to steer clear of RBC! AVOID the renewal cancellation hassle by RBC auto insurance.
My vehicle was in an accident which was not my fault, I have all perils and total loss, so I can receive total cost of my vehicle's value in case it is a write-off. That was not the case with Aviva, they are criminals, who enjoy taking your money, but won't help you. I have a 1,000 liability, so they have to give me a rental until my claim has been settled. They gave me the rental for one week only, then cancelled it. My claim had not been resolved yet. The claim adjuster stated that I would have to pay for the rental until we could settle the claim. I explained I had to have a vehicle for work (which she ignored). I sent them pictures of what my vehicle looked like before the accident as well as receipts of various costly repairs I had performed to keep my vehicle in top condition mechanically as well as a rust-free exterior with yearly Krown coats. This all did not matter to the claims adjuster, she basically told me I had to accept the offer as they would not give me anything more. My vehicle was going for between 8,000 to 11,000 at the dealer, they wanted me to accept 6,000 and no more. They made my experience very upsetting, I would never recommended Aviva. They do NOT back you up in any claims no matter what you're paying them. My broker was trying to back me up.
We bought a new car and just wanted to change the insurance over. Three hours later being grilled with questions and being put on hold 8 times, then being told I would have to go into an RBC bank to give them even more money because this is a new policy. The gauging, the frustrating experience, I do not recommend this insurance company
Been with them for years, inquired why no new cards. They dropped me no notice because of 2 accidents, first one was me 3yrs ago hitting black ice and going into oncoming traffic. 2nd was my son: he took the car during the night. I received a call: the car was totalled - he hit a tree. He had a C spine fracture, he was charged with taking my car and required to pay damages, still disabled he hasn't started yet. It's hard enough to go through that with a company leaving you high and dry. I will never forget this or recommend them.
If you store your prized possession in the winter, be prepared to lose money with AVIVA. They will not rebate any residual premium when you drop your collision coverage. Instead, they will hold it (and make interest on it) until you reinstate collision coverage again. A total RIP-OFF.
