Have been with them for many years 20+.
Rates go up every year. Accident and claim-free.
Have both home and auto with them.
Will not be renewing.
Stay away from this company!!!

Just disappointed!

I’ve been on hold for more than 3 hours for 6 times. Bought a new car and house and need to switch over insurance. I was eligible for using a group rate as I am a CPA student, but they denied that I could take advantage of this offer. They asked me irrelative questions!!! It was very frustrating. I just switched to a new friendly insurance company. TD lost its customer.

I had TD auto and home insurance for years. Never had a problem until recently. Tried to add a second car, it was too expensive so we cancelled and moved our insurance. I cancelled at the end of July. We are owed over $500 and we are still waiting on the repayment! I've called several times about it and was told it was scheduled for repayment Oct. 1. It still isn't in my account. Trying to get through to any customer service representative takes hours! I was literally on hold for over 2 hours before I got through to anyone and that was after multiple phone calls of being on hold for over half an hour, spending lunch breaks on hold etc. A total of 4hours on hold just to cancel and then more trying to find out where my repayment is. Don't go with TD insurance! I've banked with TD since I was 16 and I'm going to switch all my accounts out of TD. It is ridiculous.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Horrible! Expensive!

I had a not-at-fault motor vehicle accident in 2018. I went through 7 adjusters and had to contact the insurance ombudsman to get any action. Then as an apology, they were sending a 50 visa gift card that 3 months later was not received. What a joke! The next year my premiums went up to $150.00, now this year up another 250.00 absurd! When I called to complain about my premium which I was given 24 days renewal notice, again, not acceptable! After being on hold for 2 hours and 24 mins all I kept being told was apologies, for the wait time, and all the insurance companies were going up to mine 15%. I informed the girl that during my 2 hour wait time I had time to get many quotes all less than what I am paying currently! One with a big name was the same as my new premium but insuring both my 4 runners and my husband's Toyota truck with full coverage. She then proceeded to tell me that she can lower my premium by removing full coverage on my vehicle. Seriously? After 35 years + banking with TD and insurance with them for 25+ years, then can take a hike! Avoid them at all costs! No COVID relief either thanks TD for a whole lot of nothing!

Lure-in scam artists

I had another insurance for 6 years, but a year ago I got a good rate on Auto Insurance from TD Bank. So I signed up for both home and auto insurance with them. Being a single person and driver with 19+ driving history and no claims or tickets in 19 years, and with 887/900 credit score, I consider myself a good customer. To my dismay, I received renewal documents from TD insurance a week (!) before the renewal date and with a $500/year increase in premium. How would you call this insurance? I call it scam artists. Needless to say, I switched back to the previous insurance and do NOT recommend anyone to use TD Insurance neither for home nor for auto. They'll lure you in just to hit you with a 25% increase the following year. Shame on you TD!

Worst of the worst

I have TD insurance home and auto for a year then they sent renew with increase everything 13-14%. I asked them why it increased especially during the COVID-19 outbreak and people not using much cars. The answer was they estimated the cost to repair my car in case an accident would be higher compared last year and cost to rebuild home higher. I asked why the apps TDadvantages predicted discount 23%, why I did not get the discount instead of 13% increased. They said I did not meet 1000km, even I still have 1 month before renewing policy to make up to 1000km. They said no adjustment in even if I make it to 1000km. This company is trying to rip you off even in difficult COVID-19 times. I have shopped around actually found a much better deal, better coverage 25% cheaper both home and car insurance. The way they deal with clients, I would cancel the insurance with them.

Worst insurance company

Absolutely terrible experience with TD Insurance. I filed a claim for severe damage to my bumper and undercarriage of the car. I was driving down a dark road late at night (no streetlights) and as another car was about to pass me going the opposite direction. Just as the car passed I was struck by a moving object. I know with 100% certainty that it was a moving object as I saw something moving out of the corner of my eye just before the impact was made. I assumed it was an animal since we do have a lot of incidents like that on that particular road. TD insurance lied to me throughout the process, first telling me that the adjuster would likely be there to take pictures the next day. It ended up taking 4 days. During that time I was stuck paying for a rental car. TD insurance called me on the 4th day after the claim was reported to tell me that they were changing the comprehensive claim to an at-fault accident and claimed I hit a pothole or chunk of ice in the middle of the road. As I mentioned before, this was not possible as I could see in front of me the whole time and whatever hit my car was moving. A pothole would not cause front bumper damage and a piece of ice wouldn’t cause severe damage to the undercarriage of the car. On top of that, the bumper was damaged at the corner of the car providing that whatever struck my car was moving into the path of my car. Additionally, TD insurance tried to quote the claim based on used parts from a scrapyard. I will be cancelling me and my wife’s home and auto insurance immediately and we will never do any business whatsoever with TD as a whole. This company has no integrity and will try to screw you out of any money they can.

Worst Customer Service

We phoned in today to request a re-quote regarding our home and auto policy. We waited almost 30mins on the phone to talk to someone who is not even capable of accommodating our inquiries. Waited another 20mins to talk to another representative who has the worst customer service! We’ve been their client for 5 years now and we can’t believe that that is how they treat long-term clients. To cut the story, we found out that our premium even increased this year! We are asking for an explanation as to why is that and this representative just keeps on saying that’s what it shows on their computer screen. What made us really frustrated is how this representative said these exact words: WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOUR PREMIUM WILL DECREASE AS TIME GOES BY? ... and that’s only because we want to have at least something that would explain to us why our premium increased! We have cancelled our policy and have moved on to a different company. We could have stayed and just let go the quoted premium but the trigger point is the WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE with this company.

Worst wait times on hold

I had one claim, small, for lost shingles from a wind storm. I was disconnected several times trying to get a hold of someone. It took over a month to actually get someone to fix the roof, and a week just to get someone to tarp the roof. I am currently on hold and have been for over an hour, just to change my car information. This is the worst firm I have ever had as an insurance company.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Be aware - Its gambling

I was getting a quote for auto and home. I am not an insurance agent so I don't know what question to ask except a few questions on liability and deductible. TD would not email quote for me to look at the details and ask me to decide on quote on the phone. The key thing here to remember is once they issue a policy, you pay the money and they will mail you the details. However, if you find any issue and want to cancel the policy, there is a heavy penalty. When it comes to customer-centric policy, TD is 100 years behind.
