Worst

They did nothing for me. Put in a claim for motorcycle damage from a massive pothole that was unavoidable. Would not cover the costs for assessment of damage from Harley Davidson dealer. Did not pay the GST on repairs and were unwilling to go after the owner of the property where the pothole was to cover my $1000 deductible.

Horrible, impersonal service

by emily on Sep 26, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

After an accident, TD insurance was an absolute nightmare. My vehicle sat in the body shop parking lot for nearly two weeks before the body shop itself tracked me down to ask why my car was abandoned in their parking lot, and if I wanted to proceed with a quote for repairs. I had been told by my TD appraiser that it would be fixable, and completed within 9 days, only to get this call informing me there has been no action for more than 10 days from when I spoke to a TD rep. Another 8 days go by, and they inform me they are unable to fix the car. I had to cancel a road trip, and multiple business opportunities because of the rental they authorized me, despite driving a seven-seat vehicle. They told me that this was unfortunate but irrelevant. Their gross negligence cost me thousands of dollars in revenue and time. When I finally did receive an offer for my car, it was approximately half of what I expected. The report they gave me was for cars with similar year and mileage, but clearly, they took the average of the five cheapest, and likely poorly upkept vehicles as their reference. My car was in pristine condition, and I am unable to buy anything even remotely comparable.

refusal to pay impact victims

by Jenn00029 on Sep 12, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

A TD insured driver ran over my 8 year old on his school crosswalk on Feb 23, 2016 and has not provided daily provision and only a small amount of medial provision for his care. We're a TD mortgage holder and we deal with absolute poverty as TD insurance does not provide daily care for "caretakers" of impact victims under 18 when their drivers run over kids on crosswalks. We are forced to take welfare to survive. TD mortgage has reduced me from General Manager status to "homemaker" on their records, due to caring for my son, and denied me a second mortgage to stop foreclosure on our as TD insurance refuses to proceed with settlement offers 3.5 years. I had to sign with a private lender as we wait for theTD Auto insurance settlement. Seems a little odd that TD Auto insurance hired a lawyer who stated it was "her job" in the hallway to make sure my son does not receive "a cent", A TD mortgage holder is denied financial provision by TD auto insurance of guilty driver and was denied a 2nd mortgage to continuously care for TD auto insurance impact victim. Google does not provide negative stars to click on.

Nobody answering phone

by disgruntledcustomer on Sep 4, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I've been a client of TD Insurance and their predecessors (Monnex/Meloche Monnex) for over 30 years. But will soon be leaving, because they don't have the staff to answer the phone. I tried to add a new car online, and the VIN 'isn't recognized' despite every VIN search website showing me that it's correct. And the online wait is currently at least an hour because that's how long I've been waiting. I was supposed to pick up my new car tonight, but it seems like that won't happen unless I change insurance companies. Past claim experience (8 years ago) was fine!

Terrible customer service

I've been with TD (Meloche-Monnex) for years. Two years ago I had a claim and I was treated terrifically. Unfortunately, the service with TD has gone down terribly since that time. I've decided to cancel because of the price and service. Yesterday I spent nearly four hours on hold and even used the call back service only to be put on hold for another hour. Today I called at opening 9:00 and have been on hold for over an hour. I would NOT recommend TD insurance!

Worst wait times on hold

by John on Aug 8, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I had one claim, small, for lost shingles from a wind storm. I was disconnected several times trying to get a hold of someone. It took over a month to actually get someone to fix the roof, and a week just to get someone to tarp the roof. I am currently on hold and have been for over an hour, just to change my car information. This is the worst firm I have ever had as an insurance company.

inconsistent charges

by cheung on Jun 26, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

There has a grey period of no additional charge (accident forgiveness) due to hit and run case on the vehicle I claim last year. This year of a sudden, I see an additional charge for accident forgiveness this year renew. I still try to call them to find out the reasons. Unfortunately, it has been very difficult to contact the agent due to long waiting (more than an hour) by phone. Perhaps I have to try another day to contact them again. Teresa

You get hit and they run.

by Johhnyah on Jun 16, 2019

I was involved in a hit & run accident resulting in my car being unfit for the road. I called the customer service line and was told that I would not hear back from a claims adjuster until Tuesday of next week (it's Friday morning). I was passed back and forth between four customer services representatives that were very RUDE and unknowledgeable. I was told that I would have to pay a $1000.00 deductible and would not be given a rental car as it was not in my policy. However, I called four days prior to adding accident forgiveness as well as the renal services. TD insurance will not provide a rental car and/or wave the deductible as stated in my policy because the policy did not begin for another 27 days? How does that even work? As soon as my vehicle is repaired, I will be cancelling my policy and going elsewhere.

Absolutely terrible service

by Carily on Jun 11, 2019

I have been a customer for years, but after having to file a claim I would never go back. At first I had three different people handling my claim - all told me different information. I showed up for an appointment to fix my car, and the appointment hadn't been made, even though I received a confirmation email. When I had problems with my adjuster, I called the office to ask them to assign me someone new. Not only did they refuse to do that, but they told my adjuster I wanted to switch, making our communication very uncomfortable. I am astounded by how bad they bungled my fairly simple claim. Terrible customer service.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Escalation failure

by Jen on May 28, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Adjuster kept providing incorrect information which I kept calling out and escalating. After calling out the poor valuation and false data received over and over for 2 months, I emailed the ombudsman who said my complaint could only be escalated by internal staff. It took 2.5 months to get the claim and issues with the adjuster to be taken seriously. In the end, my claim was almost doubled. This goes to show how terrible their original valuation was, how bad their customer service is, and how slow they are at resolving claims.
