I was in an accident on October 8th (not my fault ). I was notified that my truck was going to be a write-off. My adjuster contacted me on September 23 with a very low value for my truck. I want to purchase the same truck the same year but they are all $8000 above. What I’m being given. She told me that I had to return the truck. On the 25th I have written her emails after emails phone calls after phone calls and got no response. I live in Calgary and the adjuster is in Toronto and now I’m being left with no rental no truck and no payment! The adjuster never calls back never replied back to my emails. I don’t even know who to complain about what a mess!!!
I paid my premiums on time every month for years. When I had to make a small claim it turned into a nightmare very fast. It start with taking 4 days to get a hold of my adjuster just to be passed to someone else who also never picked up his phone. After a week I finally had my vehicle in the garage. The adjuster needed to go to the shop to approve additional work. Which took him 1 day to go out. To top it all off, I phoned to get a rental car and they said I did not have coverage. I'm pretty sure having a brand new car I won want rental car coverage and all the bell and whistles. It seems that when I switched from my older vehicle to my new one someone forgot to add their grand tourism (or whatever) package. So, no rental and a vehicle that has been out of use for a week because td people do not answer the phone or return calls. I recently switch to sharp insurance and never have been happier. I got a lower rate and they have super short wait times to talk to people and a smartphone app that is handy. Beware of td

I am very disappointed with TD Insurance due to their poor customer service and lack of communication. In August 2023, I was driving in heavy rain, and water damaged my car engine, causing it to stop working. I filed a claim immediately and explained my situation. Despite my concerns, TD Insurance insisted on repairing the engine instead of writing off the vehicle. This is a family car, and replacing the engine raises serious safety and reliability issues. The car has been sitting exposed to snow and rain for over a year, which could cause further damage, including rust and other safety problems. To make matters worse, I have been trying to contact my claims' advisor, but each time I get no response to my emails or phone calls. I also requested a rental vehicle, but no one has addressed my requests. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and stressful for my family. I pay full insurance premiums, yet I have received no service or resolution for my claim. The lack of communication and disregard for my safety concerns is unacceptable. I urge TD Insurance to take responsibility for their customer service and address claims in a timely and respectful manner.
I would not recommend TD Insurance to anyone based on this experience.
My vehicle was involved in a car vs. pole collision in August. I was woken up in the middle of the night and given this news by police, my partner decided to take my car without asking and fell asleep behind the wheel, totaling my brand-new SUV. I filed a claim within the hour, police file #included. The next day I was contacted by a man who told me I should know in 7-10 business days if they're going to approve the claim. 13 days later I was notified the claim would be approved and had a rental set up while waiting for them to confirm a total loss. 13 days later the rental company tells me insurance was pulling coverage the next business days, which I thought meant they deemed it a loss, I sent TD the bill of sale as I have the depreciation clause, and they requested it the week prior. An hour after sending it in, I was contacted by another rep from TD and told she was special investigations. She made me answer all the same questions again. Multiple times. Questioned my story about being asleep when police arrived and accused me of giving the keys to my boyfriend, tried to say he lives with me as an uninsured driver, then tried to say he was drunk. She tried to say there was no police report in the file, contrary to the prior rep who had the file in front of him in our last call. When I asked how long she would take to do her investigation, she stated it would take as long as it takes for her to be satisfied. I faxed her every document she requested beginning of September, then crickets. She did not return my voicemails or emails for over a month. Last week I had enough and emailed again, my displeasure was quite obvious, I threatened a lawyer if she continued to ignore me. Like magic, 45 minutes later, she calls me. Tells me she has confirmed my story as truthful, and I'll be getting the claim settled... That I would hear from someone on the meritorious team within the next couple of days... 9 days later, and I have yet to have any more contact. All while I'm still paying for my 2024 SUV that I haven't had in 14 weeks as well as paying insurance on it... And paying out of pocket for a rental… My initial 7-10 business days for a decision is currently 14 weeks and counting. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs.
I was involved in a 100% not at fault accident (other driver ran a stop sign) when I made initial contract they were helpful (sunday) but when Monday came around they treated me totally different, they said they can't get me a rental even tho I paid for rental coverage and just told me to "get the bus or uber, submit your receipts and you'll probably get reimbursed" even though I told them neither are offered in my area, had to find my own transportation for 2 weeks.
They WILL NOT let you buy YOUR car back, said everything is sold to another company, and you have to deal with them. I tried to contact them and got told "people think they can just buy it back, but it doesn't work that way. It's probably already sold". They push and pressure you to sign a release form so they can take your car before settling the case.
Lowballed me on the appraisal, got all the specs of the car wrong, then forced me to do all the leg work to get a fair price for my car. It took 3 weeks to settle the auto part. Would not give me fair value for my modifications, said a upgraded clutch ($3000) was normal maintenance for a car with sub 100,000km.
I had to find my own transportation, I got treated like a criminal, I didn't get the coverage I paid for, I ended up with a rental but for less than 48hrs, forced to rush around to get my belongings and papers despite my injuries.
If you care about your car and are a car enthusiast in Canada, I can not recommend TD, unless you don't want your car back.
Only positive is they sent my money quick.
We have been loyal TD Meloche Monnex customers for over 25 years with zero accidents or auto claims. We never needed to use our insurance coverage until we were rear ended through no fault of our own on 3/20/2024. The way our claim was handled by TD Insurance was unethical and extremely frustrating. Our main complaints are:
- TOTAL LOSS - TD declared the vehicle a complete loss on 3/27 based on an estimate that was only 62% of the value of comparable replacement vehicles. I had to spend countless hours to convince them that they needed to re-assess this. Eventually, they did a vehicle tear down and found the extent of damages was supposedly equivalent to 100% of the value of comparable replacement vehicles and declared it a complete loss again on 4/15.
- LOW BALLING - We received completely bogus valuations on 4/2, 4/4, 4/8 and 4/10. Finally, we received a valuation on 4/17 which was 95% the value of comparable replacement vehicles and was an increase of $4600 or 20% higher than their first valuation. We finally agreed with this value so we could move forward with the settlement.
- RENTAL CAR SHENANIGANS - On 3/20, TD told us we didn't qualify for a rental car because we had removed the Grand Touring solution from our policy a few months prior. Because it was a no-fault accident, we did qualify for a rental car. Still, TD tried to tell me it would be up to 2 years to determine who was at fault because the accident occurred in BC while we were insured in AB. The RCMP declared it not our fault the same day, 3/20. It still took TD 3 days of calls before they arranged the rental car for us. Then they kept trying to take the rental car away with each bogus settlement they offered. I'm still fighting with them to reimburse me for rental car expenses from 4/17 to 4/22 more than 2 months after the accident.
- FEAR TACTICS - My son was driving the car when we were rear ended, and TD tried to insinuate repeatedly that we weren't covered at all because he wasn't on the policy. This is untrue, as he had a learner's permit and was covered through our insurance until he receives his Class 5 license.
The only positive was that they handled our medical claim fairly, and we received good medical coverage for 3 months after the accident.
RECOMMENDATION: Never accept the first few offers from your insurance company as they will always low ball you. Spend the time to research what the car and upgrades are really worth (depreciated) so that you can get a fair amount. Don't let them bully and scare you.
I was rear-ended at a red light (no fault) and TD INSURANCE HAS GHOSTED ME. I now have NO CAR, NO RENTAL, NO MONEY, and I am injured. It has been a MONTH since the accident.
After the accident, TD provided a rental car. Policy says $5000 in rental car expenses. They then took 3 weeks to get back to me to tell me that the car was written off. I was offered an insultingly low amount to replace my vehicle (which was completely paid off). I will have to pay out $5000 from my hard-earned savings to get anything close to reliable. I am a paramedic and need reliable transport to/from work in the worst weather conditions with highway driving.
After offering me the insulting claim amount, they gave me 2 DAYS to shop for, buy, insure, and license a new vehicle. They then TOOK MY RENTAL (after less than half of the $5000 amount had been used) and GHOSTED ME. COMPLETELY GHOSTED.
I have gotten NO MONEY AT ALL from TD, and have not been able to get a hold of the adjuster or a manager in over 7 business days (despite multiple calls and emails). I think they have blocked my phone number, or are screening my calls.
I have placed a deposit on a new vehicle, however cannot go pick it up until I pay for it. I cannot pay for it until I receive the claim amount from TD. I am stuck with NO CAR, NO RENTAL, NO MONEY, and NO CONTACT from TD.
Oh and also - when I called the mechanic to go pick up the license plate from the car (the DAY AFTER they told me it would be written off), I was told that TD had already had my car towed to the junkyard A WEEK AGO WITH THE LICENSE PLATE ON IT. So they towed my car to the junkyard a week before they even told me it would be written off, and now I have to pay for and use my time to go get a new license plate.
IS THIS EVEN LEGAL?
HEY TD - CALL ME BACK!!!!!!!!!!
My entire family has been insured with TD (4 cars and 2 houses) for 30 years. Never a claim. And this is how we are treated.
This has been my first and only collision in my lifetime and it has been an absolute nightmare nearly the entire way through. I started the claim January 16, 2024. And the first week I was unable to get either a tow or rental car leaving me taking the bus that nearly took me 3 hours to get home on -35 days. Then finally got this claim settled out and am supposed to be paid out as this accident was at absolutely no fault of my own. Then I’m still waiting on money and had to turn in my rental on Saturday while the person I care for was in the hospital and has further crucial health appointments I need to take him too and have no money to get a new vehicle, no rental, no money for cab, unable to take the bus due to his circumstances! For an incident that I had no control of at all and the other individual on the side of this case has absolutely no effect to her, none. Just consequences on the side of the innocent party …. Other person only has a dent on company vehicle. Has a whole other personal vehicle no effect to her livelihood whatsoever. Still waiting on payout to be able to so much as search for a new vehicle.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
My car got damaged in a hail Strom in June. Now August and I'm still driving a rental car. Three times they changed my adjuster and none of my adjusters called me. I was leaving voicemails all the time, none return calls back. I waiting to get my car money and will shop for another insurance company. Not recommending TD insurance.
If there was an option to give TD auto Insurance 0 stars, I would have chosen to do so as I honestly believe that is the best representation of the level of communication, customer service and complete lack of respect for the people who are unlucky enough to have to deal with them. I (thankfully) do not have TD Insurance as my provider but I was T-boned by someone who has TD insurance and my truck was written off, which means I had to deal with TD to get my vehicle fixed/paid out. The entire process from the very get-go was unbelievably painful and drawn out. It took the adjuster 11 days after the accident to even contact me and advise on what the next steps were (even though I had called and left multiple voicemails and e-mails with the TD adjuster working on my claim, starting the day after the accident). When they did finally contact me, they did not acknowledge or show any sign of being apologetic for the frustration I was feeling with being vehicle-less and unable to contact anyone to advise what was going on - though I explicitly advised I was feeling disgruntled (the auto body shop that I had taken my vehicle to advised after I complained that I had been without a vehicle and had no idea how much longer it would last that TD would cover a rental for me.. which was one of the reasons I had asked for an update from TD in the multiple e-mails and voicemails I had left with the adjuster. Had the autobody shop not advised of this, I have no doubt I would not have gotten into a rental because TD is that incompetent and sneaky and obviously did not want to have to pay to have me drive a rental while their employees took their time to mismanage this case). They provided me with a release form and told me to sign it - but the release form had contradicting payout amounts listed on the form in different locations. I asked for the form to be reviewed and revised before I signed it and asked for a breakdown as to how the payout amount was decided as I had multiple aftermarket upgrades on my vehicle and I wanted to ensure that I was being offered a fair amount based on my specific truck, not just a general base model. Long story short, it took over a month for this issue to be resolved. The adjuster continued to ignore voice mails and phone calls. I even called to escalate this issue to the manner, which was also ignored. After over 3 weeks of asking for the breakdown of how the payout was calculated, I was sent a spec sheet on a base model of my truck that had incorrect information listed (said the truck was grey; it is custom painted matte-black. said the rims were 20", they are aftermarket 18" rims; said the truck had cloth interior, it had leather etc. etc.) with absolutely no dollar amounts listed. When I, once again, asked for the breakdown of the costs, the adjuster advised that there was no such document to be able to provide. I asked if there was no breakdown as to how the number was found, how the appraiser could have come up with the payout amount, which was also ignored. I ended up signing the release without being provided any of the information I requested (the adjuster eventually said that I could submit receipts for all of the aftermarket upgrades to TD and they would review them one by one and take them into consideration for the payout but would not guarantee that the price would be adjusted -- for which I asked how it could be expected for a person to keep all of the receipts for aftermarket parts that had been on the truck for years on the off chance that someone else would total the truck and the insurance company would require them to give an appropriate payout... especially as all of the aftermarket upgrades were still ON the truck and the appraiser would have seen them if they had even looked at the vehicle). I ended up signing the release because the entire claims department was obviously incapable of any sort of organization, communication, honestly or customer service. Clearly, as management also ignored communications, it is the culture in the company in general and not just my misfortune to have to deal with 1 incapable individual. When I signed the release, I had to ask 3 times for upper management contact information, as the original manager I had contacted was also clearly just as incapable or unconcerned with mishandled clients. The adjuster replied that he couldn't provide me with management information but that someone would contact me... The manager with whom I had already tried to contact ended up phoning me, even though I explicitly advised that I needed to speak with her manager because part of the issue was with her specifically and that their bosses need to be aware that there are concerns not just with the adjusters, but in their management as well. Overall, the worst customer service I have ever encountered with both employees and management. I have worked in customer service for over 15 years and have never dealt with such unprofessionalism and lack of regard. I will refuse to deal with them ever again and hope that this review will help others avoid getting involved with one of the worst ran and managed companies I've ever experienced. The accident was November 16 and it is currently December 19... and was told to expect my cheque the week of Christmas (which I am imagining will not happen. That cheque should have been couriered directly to me) - so it has been over a month and I am still without reimbursement. Avoid this company at all costs.
