Super LONG claim waiting time

I am very disappointed with TD Insurance due to their poor customer service and lack of communication. In August 2023, I was driving in heavy rain, and water damaged my car engine, causing it to stop working. I filed a claim immediately and explained my situation. Despite my concerns, TD Insurance insisted on repairing the engine instead of writing off the vehicle. This is a family car, and replacing the engine raises serious safety and reliability issues. The car has been sitting exposed to snow and rain for over a year, which could cause further damage, including rust and other safety problems. To make matters worse, I have been trying to contact my claims' advisor, but each time I get no response to my emails or phone calls. I also requested a rental vehicle, but no one has addressed my requests. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and stressful for my family. I pay full insurance premiums, yet I have received no service or resolution for my claim. The lack of communication and disregard for my safety concerns is unacceptable. I urge TD Insurance to take responsibility for their customer service and address claims in a timely and respectful manner.
I would not recommend TD Insurance to anyone based on this experience.
I had an extremely frustrating experience with this TD insurance. From the very beginning, communication was a nightmare. They rarely respond to emails or phone calls, and when they do, it's always with a rude and dismissive tone. Every time I ask for information or clarification, I’m met with vague, unhelpful answers. It's clear that customer service is not a priority here, and it's impossible to get the support I need. I would not recommend them to anyone — it's been nothing but wasted time, money, and frustration.
My vehicle was involved in a car vs. pole collision in August. I was woken up in the middle of the night and given this news by police, my partner decided to take my car without asking and fell asleep behind the wheel, totaling my brand-new SUV. I filed a claim within the hour, police file #included. The next day I was contacted by a man who told me I should know in 7-10 business days if they're going to approve the claim. 13 days later I was notified the claim would be approved and had a rental set up while waiting for them to confirm a total loss. 13 days later the rental company tells me insurance was pulling coverage the next business days, which I thought meant they deemed it a loss, I sent TD the bill of sale as I have the depreciation clause, and they requested it the week prior. An hour after sending it in, I was contacted by another rep from TD and told she was special investigations. She made me answer all the same questions again. Multiple times. Questioned my story about being asleep when police arrived and accused me of giving the keys to my boyfriend, tried to say he lives with me as an uninsured driver, then tried to say he was drunk. She tried to say there was no police report in the file, contrary to the prior rep who had the file in front of him in our last call. When I asked how long she would take to do her investigation, she stated it would take as long as it takes for her to be satisfied. I faxed her every document she requested beginning of September, then crickets. She did not return my voicemails or emails for over a month. Last week I had enough and emailed again, my displeasure was quite obvious, I threatened a lawyer if she continued to ignore me. Like magic, 45 minutes later, she calls me. Tells me she has confirmed my story as truthful, and I'll be getting the claim settled... That I would hear from someone on the meritorious team within the next couple of days... 9 days later, and I have yet to have any more contact. All while I'm still paying for my 2024 SUV that I haven't had in 14 weeks as well as paying insurance on it... And paying out of pocket for a rental… My initial 7-10 business days for a decision is currently 14 weeks and counting. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs.
Customer support is non-existent. Changed card for auto-renewal and paid bill. A month later policy is cancelled with no notification or communication from TD insurance then they scammed money out of partner to fix the issue of which they still didn’t. Now our rates will be up 3000$ if it’s not fixed.
Terrible people, terrible customer support.
My adjusters were useless. When our stolen vehicle was stolen and recovered it took adjuster all to find out where vehicle was.
There was no customer service. The adjuster did not know his job and did not care. I called and emailed every day for five days to get an update there was never a response. Had to escalate my call to a manager.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
We have been loyal TD Meloche Monnex customers for over 25 years with zero accidents or auto claims. We never needed to use our insurance coverage until we were rear ended through no fault of our own on 3/20/2024. The way our claim was handled by TD Insurance was unethical and extremely frustrating. Our main complaints are:
- TOTAL LOSS - TD declared the vehicle a complete loss on 3/27 based on an estimate that was only 62% of the value of comparable replacement vehicles. I had to spend countless hours to convince them that they needed to re-assess this. Eventually, they did a vehicle tear down and found the extent of damages was supposedly equivalent to 100% of the value of comparable replacement vehicles and declared it a complete loss again on 4/15.
- LOW BALLING - We received completely bogus valuations on 4/2, 4/4, 4/8 and 4/10. Finally, we received a valuation on 4/17 which was 95% the value of comparable replacement vehicles and was an increase of $4600 or 20% higher than their first valuation. We finally agreed with this value so we could move forward with the settlement.
- RENTAL CAR SHENANIGANS - On 3/20, TD told us we didn't qualify for a rental car because we had removed the Grand Touring solution from our policy a few months prior. Because it was a no-fault accident, we did qualify for a rental car. Still, TD tried to tell me it would be up to 2 years to determine who was at fault because the accident occurred in BC while we were insured in AB. The RCMP declared it not our fault the same day, 3/20. It still took TD 3 days of calls before they arranged the rental car for us. Then they kept trying to take the rental car away with each bogus settlement they offered. I'm still fighting with them to reimburse me for rental car expenses from 4/17 to 4/22 more than 2 months after the accident.
- FEAR TACTICS - My son was driving the car when we were rear ended, and TD tried to insinuate repeatedly that we weren't covered at all because he wasn't on the policy. This is untrue, as he had a learner's permit and was covered through our insurance until he receives his Class 5 license.
The only positive was that they handled our medical claim fairly, and we received good medical coverage for 3 months after the accident.
RECOMMENDATION: Never accept the first few offers from your insurance company as they will always low ball you. Spend the time to research what the car and upgrades are really worth (depreciated) so that you can get a fair amount. Don't let them bully and scare you.
I had auto insurance with them since June 2022, in December my credit card has not got deducted for insurance amount which I have set on Auto pay. Hence, I haven't even bothered to check the statement.
In April 2023 I receive a letter from TD Bank of non-payment since December. I immediately called them and the customer care is like it's your fault, though I was having sufficient balance in my account.
In response to my statement, they said you have to get a letter from your bank that why payment has not been made.
Being a customer of them, Firstly they have informed me after 4 months with a letter, no email, nothing. Secondly, I being in a job seldom find time to run to banks to get clearance letter from bank to satisfy TD insurance that it wasn't my fault. What a customer service.
Now they had me red flagged for non-payment, stopping me to get insurance from other bank. I don't think TD insurance is good at customer service, but they are good at harassment.
I will never get back to TD Bank or insurance
After my credit card was stolen and the number changed, I tried to update it online on multiple occasions, and it wasn't being updated for pre-authorized payments. I contacted TD insurance multiple times to resolve the issue so that I won't accidentally miss payments. Once I thought the issue was resolved, turned out my payment information wasn't updated and I missed two payments and my insurance was canceled for non-payment. I haven't received any notice of cancelation to my email or phone, nor I was notified about missed payments. Contacting TD insurance produced no results and no I am facing the consequences.
Today, i called to TD insurance to change my car insurance policy and the guy put me on hold from 1 hour and right now I’m writing this review while I’m waiting to connect with the customer care support. Thank you for realizing me that i choose wrong insurance company policy.

Last year Nov, in a no-fault incident, my car was total loss. However, no agent contacts me after a whole month while I need the insurance coverage to rent a car. I have to wait on the phone line and after several attempts I finally reach the supervisor. I was told the agent who handling my case is not at the office and now another agent is assigned. Afterward, the compensation amount is far below market value of my hit vehicle, and it cost me one more week to bargain with the agent for a reasonable price. I immediately cancel it once the coverage period is over, still I need to schedule a phone call in order to cancel it. The customer service has bad attitude and does not care if I cancel it or not. Overall, price isn't attractive, bad CS, worst claim experience. I will NEVER use any service from TD, including bank service.
