I have been with TD car insurance for 1 year. My insurance started at around $1100/year. I did my advantage driving program and ended up getting such a high score that I would receive a 24% discount for the following years. I get my statement for this coming year, and my insurance went up to around $1400/year.
To me, I thought that they hadn’t put the 24% discount onto this number yet and that I had to call to get it activated. So I called, and come to find out, that the 24% discount was already applied and the final amount was $1400/year AFTER the discount.
This would mean, that If I did not have my 24% discount, my insurance premium would have gone up to $1900/year, a 60% increase from the year before. When I tried to explain that it must be an error, because increasing a premium by 60% (no claims in that year or tickets), they refused to acknowledge that the increase is 60% and stated that the increase is only 21%.
I’m no mathematician here, but going from $1100 to $1400 with a 24% discount already applied, is not 21%, but probably for legal reasons, they would not acknowledge the fact that they increased my premium by 60%.
Stay away at all costs. I guess being a super safe driver is not what they want, since they’ll hike up your premium if your advantage discount is too high.
The fact that they are causing this many issues and I haven’t even gotten in an accident or submitted a claim yet, is telling to what they will act like once I actually need their assistance. I’ll be shopping around for another insurance company. TD insurance is an absolute scam.
A woman hit my car. It was deemed her fault. TD is her insurance company but they will not talk to my insurance company. They are unprofessional and a terrible business. Now I have to cover my $500.00 deductible. Stay away from them like the plague.
Took TD 3+ months to approve the repair to my vehicle (not because there was a shortage of parts or COVID, or whatever else the excuse could have been they just dragged their feet), and even after it was finally approved the car was taken into the auto body place of my choice (I know their in-house place would have cut corners), TD then denied part of the repair so I'm now out of pocket $1500 to get it repaired fully to the way it was before we were hit.
I had 4 different advisors assigned to my claim over the 3+ month period and not 1 of them would return a phone call to me or the auto body shop. Emails were exchanged and if the advisor decided to respond (which wasn't often at all) if you tried to call them immediately as soon as it was sent/received they just wouldn't answer the phone.
The Autobody shop even sent TD an email stating that the damage they are denying is more than likely a result of the accident and TD just said nope we're not covering it. I spent 2 additional months after them denying it trying to fight them over it and even had 2 other shops agree that the damage is likely a result of the accident yet TD refused to cover it and basically closed the claim and brushed me off.
Would not recommend TD to my worst enemy. This company is horribly run and TD should be ashamed of themselves for letting it be this bad. Had I thought about reading reviews prior to picking my insurance company I would have been warned and it would have been my own fault for ignoring the warnings but I didn't even think of looking at online reviews for insurance companies... Take my advice and the other reviews and stay away from TD.
I was in a major accident and it took them forever to do anything. They consistently rejected my and my partners treatment plans. Constantly sent us for independent assessments and then rejected them. Despite proof of injury. They refused to offer settlements to the point that lawyers need to be involved. If you use them, you must hire a lawyer so that you can get treatment. They will just deny it.
I made a claim over a month ago and was hit in the back, the employer will not take me back without a doctor's clearance, no income, and no help from TD.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
They didn't debit my credit card for the monthly premium at the beginning of the month and on the 12th of November when I deposited my paycheck I noticed that they didn't take their monthly payments because that's usually when I settle my credit card. I only use my credit card for the insurance and cell phone plans so there was plenty of money available for them.
So I was driving around with no cover for 12 days... They are unreliable, unprofessional and totally useless when you try to sort things out.
Now they are insinuating that it's all my fault and they had nothing to do with the problem in the first place. They are demanding a full year's payment from me.
Quit honestly I think they are going bankrupt and trying to squeeze money out of people, why else would they do this?
I bought the vehicle in August 2022, and the vehicle was bought privately. Two sets of tires (Summer and Winter) are coming with the vehicle. I set up the policy with TD for my vehicle, and when asked if I have winter tire installed during the Winter their question during giving me a quote
I answered "YES" because it is true, I have a winter tire and I will put it on when the winter comes. I have all the policies set up (I move all auto and house policies to TD). Everything was fine at the original setup. They gave me all discounts including the Winter tire discount. Then in September (a week later), they took the winter tire discount off and ask me to provide them either the winter tire bill of sale or the invoice that my car has a winter tire install. I made several calls to them to explain that I bought the vehicle privately and it is summer, and I couldn't install winter tires in Summer. After requesting to speak to the manager. The lady (manager) told me to take pictures of my car with the summer tires on the vehicle and winter tire sets as proof. I did taking the pictures and provided them.
After two months of calling them 7-8 calls, nothing happens. And now, they said they will not apply the discount because I don't have either the bill of sale or the invoice for installation. I requested I will submit the invoice when I install the winter tires next month. But I ask for all the extra fees I paid from Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov because no discount needs to reimburse back to me. Their response is NO, they don't reimburse, they only apply a discount at the time I submit the invoice for installation.
What pisses me off is, they said when they gave me the quote, they took my word that I have the winter tire, but they now say they can't take my picture as proof of having winter tire because I might be taking pictures of other people's tires.
Three calls and three different quotes. Deductible information is unreliable. I promised myself I would find another insurer next year. It is unclear whether there is any accountability for record-keeping. I have had double payments (annually) taken out, and all manner of errors with no apologies for these errors. Just super frustrating and I wish there were more options in Canada.
Got my BMW insured with TD. Last year I paid 3224 CAD. This year the insurance is 3500+... With no claims, tickets, etc.
When I called they said it is because of inflation. They did offer 10% on deductibles which is a joke (in case of an accident).
I canceled the policy and will not recommend it to anyone.
I had an accident and I was at no fault. It doesn’t matter to them if explain the whole situation they will think and do whatever they want to.
I had a new car just 8 days driven and got hit by a vehicle. Airbags were deployed and had damaged bumper and other parts. It was nonrepairable but they assigned it to repairable not because in actuality it is just because they can’t write off that much amount. Really hurtful.
I am worried about safety more. If something happens in the future just because of repaired part who is going to be responsible for that?
Would not recommend it to anyone honestly. They don’t value your money.
