I bought the vehicle in August 2022, and the vehicle was bought privately. Two sets of tires (Summer and Winter) are coming with the vehicle. I set up the policy with TD for my vehicle, and when asked if I have winter tire installed during the Winter their question during giving me a quote
I answered "YES" because it is true, I have a winter tire and I will put it on when the winter comes. I have all the policies set up (I move all auto and house policies to TD). Everything was fine at the original setup. They gave me all discounts including the Winter tire discount. Then in September (a week later), they took the winter tire discount off and ask me to provide them either the winter tire bill of sale or the invoice that my car has a winter tire install. I made several calls to them to explain that I bought the vehicle privately and it is summer, and I couldn't install winter tires in Summer. After requesting to speak to the manager. The lady (manager) told me to take pictures of my car with the summer tires on the vehicle and winter tire sets as proof. I did taking the pictures and provided them.
After two months of calling them 7-8 calls, nothing happens. And now, they said they will not apply the discount because I don't have either the bill of sale or the invoice for installation. I requested I will submit the invoice when I install the winter tires next month. But I ask for all the extra fees I paid from Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov because no discount needs to reimburse back to me. Their response is NO, they don't reimburse, they only apply a discount at the time I submit the invoice for installation.
What pisses me off is, they said when they gave me the quote, they took my word that I have the winter tire, but they now say they can't take my picture as proof of having winter tire because I might be taking pictures of other people's tires.
Three calls and three different quotes. Deductible information is unreliable. I promised myself I would find another insurer next year. It is unclear whether there is any accountability for record-keeping. I have had double payments (annually) taken out, and all manner of errors with no apologies for these errors. Just super frustrating and I wish there were more options in Canada.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Got my BMW insured with TD. Last year I paid 3224 CAD. This year the insurance is 3500+... With no claims, tickets, etc.
When I called they said it is because of inflation. They did offer 10% on deductibles which is a joke (in case of an accident).
I canceled the policy and will not recommend it to anyone.
We have been TD Insurance customers for more than a decade. We had our first claim this year and realized that their customer service is terrible. They steered us towards using their "preferred" repair shop and that shop didn't fix all of the problems with the vehicle. When we brought this to their attention they claimed that those issues weren't a result of the accident and refused to pay for them. Once I started asking questions they just started ignoring my emails/calls. When they did respond they didn't answer my questions. Their complaint escalation process is a joke. We just got the same response from everyone that we spoke to and no one took anything that we said into consideration. They also didn't care about our customer service concerns. It's as if they are so used to having people complain it's normal and acceptable for them to treat their customers with disdain.
They change your premium without updating the customer and when we ask them the reason. They tell us that TD sent a mail which I never received. They deduct money from your account without us knowing. Just till scammers. And when we ask for a refund they say one or the other reason and are not willing to give a refund at any cost. So bad service. I would not recommend TD to anyone.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Absolutely the most incompetent insurance company out there. The customer service is nonexistent and their agent is poorly trained... at best. Leaving after 27 years claim-free.
I got a letter in the mail saying my insurance was being cancelled because of 1 missed payment. My bank never once notified me that the money tried coming out and couldn’t, which it does any other time, and I always had the money in my account for my insurance anyways. Ended up calling them and they tell me I missed a payment back in MARCH and I got the letter in the mail a couple of days ago which is now AUGUST. They didn’t let me know about this “missed payment” until 5 months later and they go and cancel my insurance on me and I was driving without insurance for a couple of days not having a clue at all until I got the letter. When I called (the guy on the phone was nice, nothing against him), he claimed since my policy was already canceled, I could pay the money I owe and MAYBE go back to monthly payments (apparently it’s up to the computer system after the fact if I can do that or not) OR pay the money and find out I have to start paying yearly if “that’s what the computer decides.” So to continue with them I’d need over $2000 in my bank account for them to take out for the year and start yearly payments. I don’t have that kind of money at all so I switched insurance companies. I’m paying over $100 less now for this one and they are great so far. Really really stupid setup.
I got quoted 3045 for the year for insurance and I paid it in full. But a month and a half later they said I owed another 1479 that I was totally unaware of until I called to cancel my policy on July 27th after selling my car. So instead of getting my refund they just decided to go ahead and take my refund without my consent. Crooks! First of all, I did not get a phone call or a piece of mail regarding this increase. They just said I owed that much when I canceled is this fair? They claim I didn't tell them everything about previous driving convictions but when I ask to hear my recordings from when I set up my policy. They tell me I need to mail in a letter saying it's OK for me to obtain and listen to them. Meanwhile their listening to all of them.
I know what I said I just want my money back. What? Because I missed 1 out of 3 things I get billed 1500 dollars.
Avoid.
- Initially quoted 18 business days to do repairs. Completion date: June 28.
- On June 24, receive an email that the completion date has moved to July 12 - no explanation provided. When I call to find out why I get voicemail. No callback.
- On July 8, receive an email that says the car will be ready on July 12. Excellent - I make plans to use the car the following week
- On July 12, no call, no explanation, when I call I am told the new completion date is July 15. Refuse to provide a rental car.
- On July 15, no call, no explanation, when I call I am told the completion date now July 26
- On July 26, no call, no explanation, when I call I am told the completion date now July 29
- Front line person and adjuster have no idea what is causing the delay. Asked to meet with the manager of the shop as the delay is now more than a month! The manager refuses to meet.
- July 29 comes and goes, receive an email indicating the new date is August 4.
- After more escalation, they finally provided a rental car on Aug 2.
- Eventually got my car back on August 17.
Total repair time: 76 days. No explanation was ever provided for the delays other than "we found additional damage" but provided no explanation as to what that damage was. Except for the first time I never received any proactive communication about changing completion dates, the dates just drifted by and I had to call to find out what was going on. Zero ownership of the problem by TD Adjuster or Shop Manager until finally, someone on the insurance side took action.
One positive: the repair looks like it was done well - but have only had the car back for one day so will monitor.
They didn't debit my credit card for the monthly premium at the beginning of the month and on the 12th of November when I deposited my paycheck I noticed that they didn't take their monthly payments because that's usually when I settle my credit card. I only use my credit card for the insurance and cell phone plans so there was plenty of money available for them.
So I was driving around with no cover for 12 days... They are unreliable, unprofessional and totally useless when you try to sort things out.
Now they are insinuating that it's all my fault and they had nothing to do with the problem in the first place. They are demanding a full year's payment from me.
Quit honestly I think they are going bankrupt and trying to squeeze money out of people, why else would they do this?
