Very poor claim handling

So I canceled my insurance as my vehicle was in a accident in 2023 I had a letter from td insurance telling me I was getting a refund issued back to my card of 1900 and received a check for 630. I call and the agent tells me there must have been a mistake on the letter now this is a insurance company and claiming they had made a error and refused to tell me what's going to happen to the 1200 the letter told me about. The claim process was nice but over all not the type of experience that a customer should receive.
My home and auto insurance rate keep getting higher every year even if I never had any claims. This year, I got my full G licence and instead of getting a lower rate, they increase my auto insurance by more than 70cad per month. Needless to say, I switched to another insurance company.
Been with TD insurance for 15 plus years. 30 year clean driving record. My premiums keep going up and up and up. Finally I had enough and called around and got my insurance for about half TD was offering me. Not sure why TD is so expensive needless to say I switched insurance companys
The people that answer the phone are good but the company they work for is awful and malicious. Renewal documents are not written properly with little explanation and many mistakes. TD Advantage is a scam... Don't waste your time... You have to fight to get the discount the first year and then they jack your price up pretending it is still included the following year. They think we are all stupid... I am stupid yes... but only because I did not shop around and trusted TD Insurance... They send the renewal last minute so that you have no chance to understand and shop around... but I'll be ready next year... mark my words... I will... 20+ years with TD Insurance with no claims and this is how they treat you... You got me this year, TD... but mark my word... just may be the last. I hate to think what would happen if I did have a claim?
Went with TD because I got discounted rates from being alumni.
When I tried to renew my insurance, all my accounts were closed due to a late payment. This meant that I couldn't even view the invoice to pay them.
Their phone service is pretty good when you catch them within their working hours though.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I've been with TD a few years now and started out pretty reasonable but five years in I am paying more than I ever thought. So this week looking for boat insurance! They won't cover boats older than 15 years and over 26 ft. Which forces me to switch companies if I want coverage. I'd call this anything but full service.
I had a billing issue with TD, they double charged me one month without informing me, and after addressing the issue on the same day I was billed, it has now taken me 8 days (technically 5 business days) of literally hours on the phone, multiple calls and callbacks with multiple agents, call reviews from calls I made months ago to ensure they were actually at fault (thanks for taking my word, a loyal client for years)... hours of wait times... All to get to the very simple conclusion today of reimbursing my account for the extra month I was charged... Maybe the worst customer service experience I have ever had. That said they were all, maybe like 8 in total!!! Very polite and apologetic, however very very inefficient.
I've been with TD Insurance for over 20 years. This is has been my experience:
1. They only care about new customers; not existing ones. The proof is that when you call, the wait time for the new customer line is typically under 5 minutes and for existing customers, it is at least 1 hour (if you are lucky). The trick is to select "new customer" when calling as they will still help existing customers when you select that option to skip the ridiculous wait times.
2. This past year, they raised my premium by 40%! I had no claims, no tickets and had the same car as the year before. When I called to inquire, they claimed it was because of "my area". That would mean that nearly everyone would have had to be in an accident with that type of increase! Even more unlikely during Covid. I contacted a broker and she found multiple carriers offering insurance at around 40%-50% less than what TD was offering.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Please be aware that from an experience in a recent auto claim, it appears that TD will keep their commitment to one-time accident forgiveness, but will make up for it immediately by raising the home insurance portion of the bundle because they know one cannot go and get a better rate after an accident claim. I know this for a fact because I caught them on this fact, as I had the claim changed from my fault to no fault, and their computers did not get wind of this and raised my home insurance by 30% with nothing to justify that it should have been raised 30%. They were then willing to drop the home rate by 25% when I went shopping around and got home rates 30% lower. There is no accident forgiveness here, they will just make it up on the home portion, because they know they can, since the customer has no chance of getting a better home/auto rate after a recent at-fault accident.

I had a claim, the adjuster contacted me but wouldn't respond to further communication. I learned later that the adjuster was changed, and the new adjuster wouldn't respond until after weeks of trying to contact. The new adjuster eventually sends a Proof of Loss which I signed and sent, but won't respond to my emails or phone calls on follow up of the settlement. Very hard company to deal with if you have a claim.
