TOTAL LOSS=TOTAL LIES

by Belairdirecthell on May 11, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

This insurance company is horrible. They discriminate based on age and have ZERO empathy when you have an accident that's not even your fault. They treat you like a liability instead of a client and provide you with the worse possible customer service. They make their own rules and ask you to sign contracts that do not reflect reality and then threaten that if you don't sign, they will not give you a cheque. The lady I dealt with for my car that was considered a total loss...forced me to sign a contract that didn't reflect reality and asked me to sign stating my car was a total loss when only the back end was damaged. The car was repairable for way less than the insurance said but was considered a total loss. I wish I had time to sue this company but unfortunately, because of the time constraints and my need to access funds, this deterred suing them. Please stay away from BELAIR DIRECT, once you need them, they will not be there for you. AND They won't give a hoot. They will try to make even more money off you. They took my car and sold it for parts for way more than the minute cheque they issued. And they took my car immediately so that my hands were tied even tighter.

Nightmare...

by insurancerating on May 7, 2016

If someone could only realize to which point dishonest insurance can mess up your life. How you can end up losing your job when you work on a road and the insurance company takes 4 months to pay you off and you have no car. And how do you picture a sales representative with no car?

I work for a beer company and was involved in a car accident and just because I had few cans of UNOPENED beer in the trunk that I showcase my clients, they said that there is a possibility that I was drunk when I was involved in the accident.

After a month, they took the rental and I kept the rental for another month by paying for it. This is all what I could afford. (I just got out of a bankruptcy). Another month of borrowing friends' cars and until that was no longer either. Then had to quit my job and struggle for another month until they finally paid me. Now, have to restart everything since day 1. If you value your well-being, don't go with Belair or their shady owner Intact Assurance

The automerit is horrible

by w95 on Apr 21, 2016
2.5 out of 5 stars

They make it seem like the Automerit program is a technological breakthrough but it's just a dumb device that records your speed. The software that analyzes the data determines if your speed increased or decreased quickly within 1 second and penalizes you accordingly. It's such a methodotical approach with absolutely no customization. It's not enough that they treat their customers like numbers... They should open their eyes and realize that drivers brake and accelerate on a daily basis without any risks. The Automerit program is like having a driving instructor looking at a spreadsheet at home and criticizing your driving.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Huge Increase unjustified

by Ripped in Barrie on Mar 12, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Belair just raised our liability premium 66 % without justification. This vehicle is not used for work because we are retired. Just around town with total km's per year around 3000. Our government is letting insurance companies do whatever they please. I will never deal with this company again nor vote for a government that serves the insurance companies over their constituents

Terrible Experience

by Joe on Feb 27, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Terrible experience with Bellairdirect. I was a customer with them for 4 years. My company transferred me for assignment to the US for a few months. I gave bellairdirect a call just to confirm that I would be covered for the few months while working in the States as I was taking my car with me. Because I was unable to provide a exact return date (tho I said it would be less than their 6 month period they were telling me I would be covered for), I was told I had 20 days to cancel my policy with them or I would be canceled directly by them. At the time we had multiple members of my family insured through bellairdirect. Lucky I was able to find a new provider who had no problem insuring me for my time in the US. Awful customer loyalty and service. Would not recommend.

Deceptive Practise

by mtlescortzone on Feb 23, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Horrible overall experience. They wanted to void my claim just because I had a check airbag sign lit on. The thing that saved the day was the fact that I was not at fault, even if I had a 2 way complete coverage to start with. They have used every single tactic to low ball me on the value of my car. There are better choices for your hard earned money. Still lost money with them despite doing all the right thing.

Good company

by Valleygirl on Feb 17, 2016
4 out of 5 stars

I have been with Belair for a very long time for both home and auto. I have had a number of auto claims, mostly for glass, and have never had one single problem making a claim. The claims were handled professionally, quickly and fairly and my rates are still low. I definitely recommend Belair Insurance.

BEWARE BELAIR

by oneP'Doffcustomer on Feb 11, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

I have been a costumer of belair direct for 1.5 years. Recently a electrical fire started in my vehicle, completely rendering my vehicle. When I first signed up with belair I was in a rush to get my policy started. The agent who sold me my policy did not clarify with me the certain coverage my policy had. Paying $2900 dollars I figured I had basic and comprehensive coverage, turns out the agent only listed me on for liability. I purchased my vehicle with a loan of $10000 and stated to the agent when I started my policy. At no point did they offer me any coverage to ensure I would be covered in any circumstances where the vehicle would be damaged or a loss. Since they do all their business over the phone, you will not see your policy package for a couple months. When they policy package came in the mail, looking over it I assumed based on what I was reading I had coverage for property damages. Turns out you really need to look at what BS they are sending you. This company is 100% a scam. All they care about is taking your money and putting it in their pockets. That's about the only thing they are good at doing. Now I am $8000 dollars in debt with no vehicle to get to and from work. Thanks Belair Direct!

Cancellation Fee

by Disappointed Driver on Jan 12, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

After being unable to provide both my roommate and I with tenant insurance (for the sole reason that we were roommates), I was forced to take my business to another company that could package my home and auto insurance together.
I was charged 200 dollars as a cancellation fee for administrative costs. I'm assuming this is to mitigate any money I might save by moving to another insurance company? When I asked if I could speak with someone who could explain the charge in depth, the operator informed me that no exceptions would be made and the fee was to be paid or I would be put into collections.
A really overall unpleasant experience with a company that I not only felt I could trust, but in whose hands I had been placing my livelihood in the case of an accident. Yuck.
