Price increase

So, to my surprise, for being a good driver, no tickets, no accidents, ZERO CLAIMS, MY insurance jumped from $1427.00 a year to $1800.00 and this is supposedly with my combined savings for also having content ins. And because I pay it all upfront. They proceeded to tell me it's because of my vehicle rating. I'm a single mom on disability. Going through cancer. I was shocked, upset and disappointed. Especially after having 4 of my family members change their Insurance companies to them. After calling around. I found rates at $1369.00 this is without bundled savings. So obviously I wasn't that much of a respected customer! And if it where nothing to do with my vehicle rating how can another company be 400$+ a year. The broker I spoke with said I'm the other client from Belair direct. Making the change

What is going on at Bel-Air?

Unbelievable. Today I called to tell them that I will no longer be driving my car to work. The customer service person readjusted my pending July renewal to reflect this and gave me the new number. It was higher! I said, "Why is the new rate higher than when I drove to work?" She says that my car is at greater risk sitting in West Hamilton in my driveway, than if I drove 25k to work, and that the conversation has been recorded when I said that I would not be driving to work, so I can't change my mind and say otherwise now. Drive to work -higher rates. Don't drive to work -higher rates. Does this make any sense? I'm not making this up.
I'll be pursuing this with a supervisor tomorrow. I've been a 30 year customer with a less than $200 in total claims over that time. House insurance -up 10% every year for the last 4 years, no claims ever in 30 years. I'll be shopping both policies if I can't hear something that makes more sense than what I heard today..

So, this is the first time I had insurance on my own. They offered a great rate on my first car, but after it was written off, things went sour very quickly. First of all, it took them a month to sort out my accident claim, which I was not at fault. They only reason the claim was resolved was because I had to do all of the leg work personally. I did 100% of their job just to get my claim taken care of.
Now that I'm up for renewal, I decided to look into other companies, since belairdirect wasn't giving a good rate on my newer, safer vehicle. I was offered a way better rate with way more coverage somewhere else. When I asked Belairdirect if they could lower my rate for loyalty, they told me no. So, long story short, they have very bad customer service, they don't do their jobs, and they're really not there for you. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

I miss Canadian Direct

I am going to make this short and to the point - 30% increase in my auto premium since Belairdirect took over CDI. I can't get competent people to answer my questions. They either fired or packaged out the CDI employees. My favourite advisor quit as I was told by one person on the phone because he was too smart and they didn't know how to handle his personality and he was a big part of the sales department. I have to call 3 times to get an answer. No call backs when promised. I pulled my wife's car, her motorcycle along with my truck and motorcycle and my home. I guess this wasn't short and to the point. I was a customer since HSBC owned CDI.

Great Service and Competitive

I have been insured with Belair for 4 years now, and I have always had a good experience. At first it was just auto insurance as I was not a homeowner yet. The rates were the best and anytime I needed to make a change it was a piece of cake.

I was recently rear ended on the 401 and had my car written off. Overall, I was disappointed in the beginning as there was some confusion as to where I should have left my vehicle. I was told at the Toyota Collision center in Missisauga (that's where my accident was) and I leave it there and next day I was told it shouldn't have been left there... We still sorting things out as mistakes happen and I'm a forgiving person. At the end of the day as long as my car was to be fixed or pay-out of the car that was reasonable I would be happy.

After 9 days the claim was resolved and was determined a write off. I got a fair market value for my car. A 2007 Acura CSX. I paid $15,000 for it 5 years ago and my payout was $7487. All in all, they took care of the situation.

It kind of surprises me how much of a negative reputation the insurance industry has. My experiences with any services are is to treat whoever you are dealing with respect and a nice attitude. If you don't like what you hear calmly explain why, and think about your reasoning as well, maybe you are the one with your head in the clouds.

Great job guys. I have recently got home insurance with you as well as I just purchased my first house. I will definitely recommend to others as I have been in the past.

Cheers,

Sebastian

Very expensive!! Not at all worth it. Auto merit is a joke. So much for grey power.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Hi, I have been with Belairdirect for almost 2 years, no problem at all. But then my cousin came to live with me and I added him to my insurance. As expected, my insurance went up with 40 dollars but after 3 weeks he moved out. I provide them with proof, called them for more than 3 times, my insurance is still 332 and I got into an accident. They are giving me hard time even when I am not at fault.

They're the worst.

From the very beginning until now I've had the worst experience with Belair. I got a new car and needed to insure it. I called a few insurance companies for a quote and theirs was the lowest at the time. I signed up with them and agreed to premium which would cost me $328 a month. It's my first time having an auto insurance under my name, so I settled for the high amount I would have to pay since there were no records of me driving. I was always insured under my dad's policy, but he didn't have me signed up as a second driver. They told me if I have a clean record after a while, my premium would go down. I gave them my bank account number for pre-authorized payments set for every middle of the month. I got a paper mail showing the break down of the cost and what's covered in my premium. To my surprise, it shows that I have to pay $345 a month when the representative clearly told me it's only $328 a month. $17 is quite a jump. I gave them a call to complain, but the representative told me I have to pay $345. She can see on the system that I was quoted $328, but somehow it got reassessed and they didn't even let me know! I kept telling her I was quoted for $328 and asked to talk to the guy who I spoke with. She wouldn't transfer me to him, saying they have all the records on the system and she will help me out. She didn't do anything about it and her tone of voice was implying that I should just pay that much and stop complaining. I was so mad! Remember, I gave them my bank account info? I kept checking my online bank to see if they took any money yet. 1 and 1/2 month later still nothing. I thought maybe they just set it for a different day than what I had told them. I went for a trip, so I didn't bother about it. I thought they could just take the money whenever since it'll be in my account anyway. I received a paper mail again saying they will cancel my insurance if I don't start paying. I called them again regarding this issue raging about the situation. So happens, the representative entered the wrong account number. Now, I'm 4 payments behind since the first month is a double. I gave them my account number again and agreed to get the money at the end of the month. They decided to take 5 payments instead of 4 when the fifth one wasn't due for another 3 weeks. I'm only 23, so I have everything on the budget plus I have other bills too. I make sure I have enough funds on my account for all the pre-authorized payments, but they messed up! My account is negative and the extra money they took was supposed to be for a different bill. I'm getting a bad credit 'cause of them! I asked for a refund, but they said they'd rather not 'cause it takes 21 business days to get the refund which my next payment is due anyway. Who knows if they're gonna take another payment again for this month when they said they won't. THEY'RE ALL LIARS! Their system is messed up! The representatives always say "They don't know". Hire better people and have better communication. I am so moving to a different company. I don't even know why they keep sending me a new pink copy every month? The start and expiry date always get updated every month. I don't remember getting a new one every month from my dad's policy.

Bad Customer Service

by Sara McLeod on Mar 23, 2017
1.5 out of 5 stars

I have been with Belair Direct for at least 5 years, ever since I have had a car. They are easy enough to get a hold of, especially with the online chat feature. However, I have made the decision to remove my policy with them as of recent due to the lack of customer service. When I began my policy with them I had added the winter tire discount to my policy. However, in 2015 apparently this discount was removed, but then added back in January 2016. Since my policy was pretty much automatically renewed each year, there was no reason for me to share all of the minuscule details with them such as winter tires, nor did they ask. That means I went 16 months without having this available discount applied to my policy when I had originally told them I had the tires. Belairdirect also refuses to refund me all of the missed time. There is no reason why I shouldn't have been asked whether I had winter tires or not every single time I communicated with them and they looked into my policy. This is just another company that doesn't care for its customers.

I had been an accident free driver since gaining my insurance. However I was hit by someone on their phone in a parking lot. I was backing out of a spot, saw someone coming and stopped. As she approached I could see she was on her phone and the front passenger headlight went under my right rear fender. She struck me, admitted she wasnt paying attention at the scene. So I though "its a minor fender bender, she's ok, but I'm going to report it anyways just in case". I come to find out she completely lied on the police report, Belair said they would 'investigate'. Well, their investigation took all of 45 minutes and assigned the fault to me. No explanation, nothing. I had come to a complete stop, to allow her right of way(technically I was entering the 'roadway'), and she just drove straight into me.
My claims person was less than helpful, the sales said my insurance was going to up 250$ a year(which I've spoken to police, and they agree that she struck me). I have told them I will be fighting the decision. I was paying 134$/month total. Now remember the 250$ increase? Somehow their math that equates to 184$/month. Needless to say I am jumping ship ASAP.
