My wife's car was rear-ended; not her fault. Once they approved the estimate, the repair shop advised us it would be done in 2 weeks. The adjuster told us we could only have the rental for ten days "because that's the time our preferred shop would take". We had to fight back and forth for extension. Very rude on the phone, left my wife shaking. He told her she "needs to put pressure on the repair shop". That's his job. We have a contractual right to pick whatever shop we choose and it doesn't say if we don't pick their shop that they can short us on the rental. Then the shop had to re-order a part because the part their estimator ordered was the wrong part. That added 2 days to the repair but the adjuster only approved 1 extra day. We had to fight again to get the extension that was caused by their mistake. Last minute we find out, from the car rental place, that the adjuster told them to bill us directly instead of billing Desjardin, and we could "apply" for reimbursement. Outrageous, terrible service.
A car backed into me.
I was there; I got the drivers info.
I gave it to the adjuster
The adjuster did not look at my car but based his assessment on photos taken by the body shop.
Would support replacement of my door with a used door. I explained that this is a unique car, stored each winter and rust free. Would I get a rust free door? “ A used door. We only buy new when we can’t find used” When can you not find used these days? I can see it if it’s a Honda Civic but a ‘classic’ car does not have the same criteria used. Could not care less. That’s why I could not care less about staying with this company.
After 33 years of no claim house insurance; 41 years of no claim car insurance, this is not what I have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of coverage for. I’m taking my $8500 a year policy to someone else.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Got rear-ended and it was my first accident and first claim. Couldn't be happier with the process, which was handled professionally and in a timely manner. The accident happened on Sunday night and I informed CRC and Desjardin immediately. Did some research online to see what the process is like to prepare myself and was frightened after reading all the complaints about Desjardin. Next morning around 8:30am (that was way faster than I expected) I received a call from my adjuster and was told he received the police report already and just need to confirm some information and that I was 100% not at fault, my DCPD deductible is $0. He did talk very fast but I feel that he was able to answer all of questions very clearly and professionally. I was informed that because my car is 4 years old, they are not required to use OEM except for certain circumstances (ie: there are no used or aftermarket parts), was not happy when I heard that but I'll wait till the appraiser sees my car and what the repair estimate looks like.
I decided to go with the bodyshop recommended by my dealership and called back and left my adjuster a voicemail. It is half true that they can never be reached, but I can totally undetstand as I used to work in a busy envrionment where the phone never stops ringing, and the people who complain can never understand the simple concept "if I am already on the phone, I can't answer your call". And you will be surprised that most people don't know how to leave a voicemail, no name, no phone number, no reference number, just "call me". My adjuster always return my call within 1-2 hours, which I thought is very efficient.
The appraiser is scheduled to visit the shop of my choice 2 days later. Unfortunately, the appraiser could not give an estimate because there might be hidden damage under the bumper cover and will need to examine my car again 2 days later. I consider myself lucky that the appraiser approved new OEM parts (or maybe the shop did a great job convincing the appraiser to use OEM). 2 days later, I received a follow up email from my adjuster regarding what the estimate is and it's approved, it should take another 2-3 days. Got my car back on time and everything looks perfect.
Thought the entire process was smooth and definitely easier and faster than what I expected, didn't need to negotiate with the adjuster for OEM nor a rental. (My adjuster offered to arrange a rental but I think it will be easier to get it from the bodyshop since they have rental company on site). Was unfortunate that I got rear-ended but was fortunate that I had a responsible adjuster and appraiser to make the entire process stress-free.
Based on all the reviews I've read on here, it looks like I may need a lawyer... The front end of my car was damaged by someone backing up into it at full tilt on Saturday and is not driveable in any way. Its now Wednesday and I'm still waiting for a rental. I still haven't been able to speak with my adjuster because she won't answer her phone or return my 7 messages. I spoke with someone in customer service who told me that it's my problem and I need to sort out a rental on my own time and cost. Went so far as to say that they think I'm at fault (despite the police report) and won't even go over my policy with me until they determine otherwise. I told them that I'm at risk for losing my job because I can't walk to work as it's a 40 minute drive and I'm 6 months pregnant with a high risk pregnancy and my husband has to walk 2 hours to get to work but that didn't seem to even be acknowledged. I've been with Desjardins for over 5 years and I honestly expected better treatment than this.
Was involved in an accident in February. My car was deemed a total loss. It took 5 MONTHS to get a copy of my police report. I sent the docs needed to get it but they seemed to have disappeared and were never seen. So I sent them again. And again. Aaaand again. Finally they got them and my adjustor got my police report. According to the report I was 0% at fault and according to my policy I should be covered since it is not my fault. Right? WRONG!!! So wrong!!!!! My car was being held in storage so my rep called me and said they will only pay 1 cent to the towing company. So I was advised by my adjustor to scrap the car and use that for a payment. So I did as I was told and have my authorization to the towing co. Fast forward 5 months, I am now being penalized for following my adjustor's instructions. They are going to shave off 30% of total value of my car. I argued and argued with her, and got it down to 20%. I argued again that I only did what she told me to do. She put me on a long hold and came back and said that they will give me back the full cost of my car at the time of the accident. Great. Now I'm fighting tooth and nail for them to pay for my rental. According to my policy they will pay for a rental up to 2 days after I receive my settlement offer. Well I just received my offer 2 days ago and the rental was returned MONTHS ago.....and they are only willing to pay less than half of that. Awaiting a call from manager at this point. It's taken 6 months to get this resolved. This is ridiculous. Stay away. Save your nerves.
>Been with these guys for 11 years(since I was a new driver/teen). At the time they were known as Certas Direct, they were bought out by Desjardins.
>At first I was getting a great rate when they were Certas. I think I was paying 150$/mth. and it even got as low as 110$/mth. when I switched vehicles.
>When I noticed things were getting weird was when Desjardins randomly sent me an insurance/ownership holder in the mail with a letter saying 'blah blah we own certas, you are our valued customer blah blah'. Not too long after i got my very first speeding ticket, and then one more later that year. When my policy was renewed my rate went from 110$/mth to 200$/mth. While I take full responsibility for my tickets, i dont think i should be paying 90$ extra every month for two measly tickets.
>years later i acquired another ticket. it skyrocketed to 275$/mth. Now I am in full panic mode. I called them and said 'listen guys, yes i sped. i get that. but 275$/mth is ridiculous. i am on the brink of selling my car and opting to just use public trans/bike.' they said 'no no no, we will lower it to 250$ a month in 3 months time.' i agreed.
>RECENTLY i got into an accident. it was the other drivers fault but there was no witnesses and the other driver lied on his police report. Because we had 'conflicting stories' the two insurance companies decided to make this a 50/50 split. I was assigned a moron of a service rep. She doesn't care nor take into account anything i say. what she says is what she says. To her there is no other option. its desjardins(gods) word. Get this...I put my car into a shop on a thursday, my agent said she'd call me later that night to talk about it. no call. next day, no call. i call her. voicemail. weekend goes by. no call. i call her, leave new voicemail, she calls me back. tells me three things 'just waiting for the quote from the mechanic and i will call you back. tuesday comes. no call. weds. no call. thurs no call. i call in. voicemail again. call mechanic shop and say 'what the hell is going on with my car?' apparntly they took it apart on tuesday and assessed everything and been waiting for my agent to call. i get angry and call my agent. voicemail. 'yea, my car has been in the shop since thursday and you havent been keeping me up to date and the quote has been ready since tuesday and now its thursday...7 days. i have kids and no vehicle. please call me back and take care of this. she calls me 20 minutes later(wow...so if i pull teeth and act like an @$$ they call back?). 'okay, the quote is 2400$, 800$ for parts and 1600$ for labour...' i say 1600 for labour huh? hmmm...its a fender bender. im not a moron. they are taking you for a run. 'oh no sir they are approved by us. they know what they are doing'. oh okay, so you are telling me it takes 21 hours to put on a front fender, a new bumper and a light? i can get that done myself in 4 hours. 2 hours with a buddy. now she is all silent and being cold. i say 'listen, you arent helping me at all. im getting royally screwed. i want to take my 50% of the money for the repair and do it myself because this is bull. well sir 50% of 2400 is 1200...but then we have to device 1200 by 2...which is 600...so you get 600. So let me get this right. the damage costs 2400...its a 50/50 accident so that means you pay 1200...but you are doing 50% of the 50% i am entitled too? so 600 out of 2400. so basically thats 75/25%. no sir you dont understand. no no i undestand perfectly, im getting SCREWED.
listen guys, do not deal with these guys ever. horrible horrible horrible customer care. they are so desensitized to your questions and concerns. they Do NOT CARE. i have been dealing with these guys for a long time and the only thing keeping me with them is the fact that my tickets and 50/50 accident cannot get me a good quote anywhere for the next 3 years. dont ever go with desjardins no matter how good the quote looks.
I had deer collision 12 days after purchasing my new car. Desjardin think they will repair the car even tho the damage is over 60% of the value of the car. Had to fight with them to get second estimate, claims people are rude, claim no value now that all my car warranties are voided, and they told me they already had their numbers so it didn't matter where I took it for a second opinion, they wouldn't look at the estimate. There is even frame damage that they want to repair.
Still fighting but that's the way I intend to go down. I paid for replacement value, and I will go to court instead of driving the hunk of junk if that's what they think.
Do yourself a favour and find another insurer.
My car was hit while parked, had to do all calling to desjardins myself as the other party would not. 2 months later he finally does and the adjuster gives me the option to choose my body shop. Little do I know that she has not been in touch with my body shop so I showed up with them not knowing a thing, and my car not going to be completed for 7 days as they are very busy. I get a rental vehicle that desjardins has set up that same day and learn on day 2 that I must return the rental the next day and that the body shop is responsible for covering the rest of the rental. Apparently a shop taking more than 2 days to repair my car is not a legitimate excuse for them to continue my rental. This company has been useless and handled everything poorly and unprofessionally.
After 3 months, I finally have resolved my claim. Anybody insured with this plan should be aware that it is vital to understand it before paying the additional premium. It is written very poorly and lacks much clarity. The Superintendent of Insurance (Alberta) was involved in my claim and has asked for additional clarity in the documentation. There is no definition of total loss so each claim has its’ own definition provided by the adjuster. Unless you can prove a total loss it will be considered a partial loss so the threshold is critical. So much so that I would advise all to get the definition before paying further premiums, which will rise each year. The value of the damaged vehicle must be added to the cost of repairing it and the cost of the rental. If that amount exceeds the cost of replacing your vehicle you have a solid argument to demand a new current year vehicle.
