I have never checked reviews about Desjardin. However similar to the majority of other reviews here, I have been with State Farm for over 20 years for both Home and Auto and since Desjardin took over I have been charged a lot more year after year. Most recently I called to get some explanation even though I had 0 claims all my life, their agents along with their people are extremely rude and data in their system is inaccurate. I definitely DO NOT recommend them to anybody. I am searching for another reliable insurance provider for both Home and Auto.
My wife and I have been with State Farm for 30 years and It was OK for the most part, but ever since Desjardins took over, with 0 claims or accidents my multi-car and home insurance went up to close to 30% that is absolutely cruel.
I’m in a process of looking for a different insurance company, but if you are new and need to insure your car, home or both I will strongly advise you do not even consider Desjardins, they are absolutely unreasonable.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
After being with State Farm for many years I realized that since Desjardins took over, and with no claims, I was still paying almost twice as much for home and auto insurance. So I started getting quotes and realized what they were overcharging me, but the kicker comes when I switched insurance companies, and they charged me almost $500.00 and refused to tell me how much of that cost was a penalty! That is just bordering on fraud if you ask me.
After being with State Farm for over 30 years (now Desjardins), they raised my premiums because of the amount of claims they paid out (not my problem. I haven’t had a claim in 25 years), I went to a different insurance company. Not only did they not give me back any of the insurance amount I paid for a full month, but charged me 100 more than my monthly premium (on top of my regular amount) and took the money out of my account two days before they were even authorized to do so. None of the agents even tried to keep my business. DO NOT GO THERE. They are absolute crooks. And yes I called the customer complaint line and they didn’t anything. Disgusting!
The experience with this company has been awful... Yes, they are very fast to serve your needs on paper yet when the real work begins they are no place to be found for proper information and or getting things done in a timely manner.
My claim is still outstanding even though my adjuster knows what's going on and has done as little as possible to help my claim go through.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
My girlfriend has coverage with them. She pays almost $500 a month for comprehensive coverage. Some idiot hit her car from behind while she was waiting for the light to change. It has been weeks now and they keep saying they don't cover for that kind of damage. She's definitely going to be switching.
They raised my premiums after 1 year of coverage. Nothing has changed in my policy. No accidents or claims. I tried to get this resolved but the agents keep changing the subject on the phone. Managers are useless and do the same thing. These are con artists and should be investigated by the police and the Federal government.
I was a client of State Farm Insurance for 15 years, where the customer service was personal and excellent. Desjardins bought out State Farm, a very bad move for State Farm clients as I have discovered. On June 13, 2020 my vehicle was caught in a flash flood during a major hail and rain storm in Calgary. As a consequence, my vehicle's engine was flooded. Because there was no help to be had, I called AMA, who towed my vehicle in the middle of the night to my trusted auto repair shop. After calling for a week, I was finally able to reach Desjardins. The adjuster told me that my certified repair shop was not on the Desjardins list so the Adjuster insisted on towing the vehicle to a body shop even though there was no body damage. (Lie #1 - the customer can have the vehicle towed to any trusted garage). What I needed was a mechanic. I researched and learned that indeed my vehicle was repairable. After a month, a Desjardins inspector finally showed up, took two minutes to look at the vehicle and insisted it was not repairable so he had the vehicle towed to an auction company. Desjardins made me a ridiculously low offer, which I refused. Finally, they offered a bit more which I again refused. My research told me that the vehicle was worth much more than they were offering and it was repairable. I sent my research to the Adjuster who finally made a decent offer. I did not sign off immediately because I wanted to conduct more research regarding the potential of repairing the vehicle. Yes, it was repairable. The Adjuster lost patience with me stating that she needed to close the file immediately and if I didn't settle I would get nothing (Lie #2 - upon calling the Insurance Bureau of Canada I was informed that I had 2 years to settle the claim). Finally, after 4 months, I accepted Desjardins' offer because they refused to let me buy out the vehicle, forcing me to have to bid on it in an auction. In the meantime, without notifying me, Desjardins notified the Alberta government that the vehicle was deemed unrepairable and that it could never be considered drivable (Lie #3). There was no body damage so it could definitely be deemed as salvage which would have allowed me to repair it and drive it again. This seemed to be a spiteful move on the part of the Adjuster. During the 4 months of back and forth with Desjardins, I asked to speak to a supervisor but no one ever called me. My broker was unable to negotiate for me as, unlike State Farm, Desjardins does not allow brokers to speak on behalf of their clients. I have now lost my trusted vehicle and must buy another one even though my settlement would have been enough to repair the vehicle. Never, never trust Desjardins. I feel that Desjardins merely wanted to pay me out as cheaply as possible just to get rid of me. As a client, I had no value to them.
After being in a collision that wasn’t my fault (was hit by a drunk driver) they refused to assess the car requested I pay for it and they would return the money if the damage was the cause of the accident. Nobody called back for days, argued with me instead of attempting to communicate professionally. Long story short I have no car!

Well, this company is totally fraud . If anyone wants to waste time and money than you can choose this company because I had an accident on 6th of nov and my car goes under total loss settlement .They paid me less than my actual car value even after sending 10-15 ads from auto traders . I spent 3500$ on my car just 3 months before having accident and sent them invoices for claim but they gave me only 509$. Secondly, I had 2 different lien holders on my policy but they didn't paid me for one of them . They never told me before adding lien holder if anything happen to car then they are not paying for other company. They send me cheque and told me funds are already added for other company but when i claimed my gap then my gap insurance contact to sholaine pajor my adjuster and she told that they only paid for actual car value . is this kind a joke , now i have to pay 3700$ from my pocket to close my loan with td and i got my claim after 5-6 months of accident .
