Very unprofessional

I had insurance with Pembridge through a broker for the house. Firstly, the brokerage charged me CAD 150 for the registration. Secondly, I never had any claims and got relatively expensive insurance. This fact I recognized later. So, after nine-month Pembridge sent an inspector to the house who put several non-mandatory recommendations. I implemented some recommendations. After three months Pembridge cancelled the insurance as I was not following the recommendations, which was mandatory in their opinion. The broker withdrew me from the service list as well. So, they push me out. I did not have any choice to find another insurance company. The new insurance is around 20% less with the same coverage and without stupid recommendations. I do not recommend to use Pembridge. I will write one more negative review with Pembridge for car insurance as well.

Do not use

I paid for condo insurance with this company - but they refuse to honour their end of the contract. My condo sustained water damage from the suite above. I filed my claim as the water was still running into my suite. More than one month, 25 phone calls, 10 emails, and not a single person are helping me. The claims adjuster flat out refuses to provide his supervisors' contact, No one has been out to assess the damage, how long until I have a problem with mould? Avoid at all costs...

Unpleasant claim experience

I had an extremely unpleasant experience with the insurance adjuster. My unit was flooded, caused by the unit above. It's uninhabitable for 2 months until the restoration job is done. All documents were provided as required, but when I emailed my adjuster regarding living arrangement, which is urgent, there was no response at all for many business days. I called her, the voice mail says she is in office, but she never answered. (Still waiting for a response at the moment) This is extremely unprofessional, and makes the whole incident worse than it already was. Please stay away from this insurance company, it will ruin your daily life when you needed help the most.

Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.

Terrible service

Recently, I made a claim and although only 3 weeks into it, I am totally insulted with how my claim is being dealt with. We had a house fire and day 1 the adjuster all but said they were going to have this dealt with as cheap as possible. He encouraged us (two teens, two adults, two dogs and a cat) to stay in our camping trailer instead of a hotel. Because we had a lot of knick-knacks he first off told us it was a good time to purge (i.e. throw stuff out we didn't use often without claiming it.) He then told us it would be more cost effective if we cleaned our smaller items as it would cost more than what the items were worth to pay the cleanup crew to do it. After two weeks, he finally called to check in and got short with me saying I should have called him for approval first when I told him we had to go buy new shoes and jackets. Ours were taken by the dry cleaners to wash the smoke damage on Friday and my children and husband needed these items for work/school Monday. We didn't know the items were being taken because we were at the neighbours having showers. All we had on were crocks at the time. The additional expenses related to living in the camper; disposable dishes, propane for heat ( it was -5C in the day and -12C at night on average) and ready-made food items because we had no stove, we were told would have been things we would have bought anyway if we were camping and so could not claim...they would not even pay for a storage bin or dumpster. The cleanup crew had to pack their truck full every night when they left and throw it away themselves. My premiums had gone up significantly this year because there were a lot of flooding claims in our area. It was also increased because they marked it as a claim when I called them directly vs my broker to ask what my deductible was due to an incident that occurred (in the conversation I even specifically said it was just an inquiry). My broker is investigating that. I had made a claim with another smaller company a few years back and at that time I was told not to worry, they would deal with everything. It was a simple, stress-free incident to my relief...total opposite of this experience. Changing over because of a better rate was a huge mistake that is going to cost me a lot of money out of pocket in the end.

New policy

Our broker was amazing to deal with, had our policy within a few days, returned phone calls promptly. Switching from my local insurance to Pembridge saved us $600 on our house policy! Very happy with Mitchell & Whale insurance broker out of Markham!
