Terrible Experience

Do not go with Intact home insurance. Prices are insane and go up by alot every year! When you cancel them they charge you alot and even before your payment date! My usual payment date is on every 5th but are taking my last payment in double on the 23rd so twice this month! Go with Beneva!!!
I bought an expensive ($1,431.) one year home owner policy from Intact. I didn't make any claims. After one year, they wanted over $200 more than last year. I renewed with another company. I let the Intact policy expire. I got an invoice from Intact 6 weeks later, telling me to pay "immediately" $253 for failing to inform them that I wasn't renewing with them. (the fact that I didn't pay for the renewal should have made that obvious). There was no warning that they were going to try and extort me. I will probably have to go to war with them. Watch out for this company. I thought that I was getting the best, because they charge so much. I learned that they don't care about people, and I am glad I never had a claim with them. That could have been a nightmare. I am telling you to look elsewhere for your insurance.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
After being with Intact for years the minute you have a claim, a large claim, you become not needed and they get rid of you because of your large claim.
We suffered a devastating fire, to find out after the fact that we were terribly under insured, we were penalized for being under insured with our claim and in the end of closing the claim, they send you a registered letter advising that because of your claim, they no longer want to insure you. You have til end of policy date and then you are on your own. As if that isn’t enough stress, just try and find an insurance company that will take you on with such a recent claim waivering over your head. We’ve gone through several of declines because of “due to your recent claim” come back in 2 years. So terribly sad. We never had a claim prior to this. When these companies get to big for their boots, they don’t give a rats hoot for your business. Will never use them again for anything.
My elderly parents had Intact house insurance for quite some time. Three or four years ago they had their first claim, and then another last year. They just received a letter stating that Intact would no longer insure their house, and the insurance policy would be cancelled by the end of the month. How can a reputable company cancel a policy after only two legitimate claims, leaving an elderly couple in their 80’s find a new insurer?
I paid for a year on my home insurance and decided not to renew another year with Intact based on all the terrible reviews. So I just ignored their renewal contract and then they sent me a legal letter stating that I owed them $100.00 for not renewing. Spoke to my legal team about this and they basically said to ignore them and throw the letter out. I actually should charge them for attempted fraud, I cannot imagine how they would treat me if I had a claim to make. Actually, I do! Based on all the horrible experiences people had with Intact. I was one of the luckier ones I guess. Be safe and stay away!

Took out tenants insurance for an Assisted Living facility. No claims were made on this policy. When the insurance was no longer required we contacted Intact in writing twice to cancel. They neglected to tell us that we needed to sign a form that they never provided and instead kept charging a 92 year old man. We requested their form and have never received it. Never again will we use a company that takes advantage of the elderly.
