So this bunch of geniuses refuse to stop charging me insurance on a house I no longer own or live in. They refuse to cancel the policy because my ex moved to BC and hasn't confirmed the house is sold. Apparently, neither the agreement of purchase and sale (with her signature on it) nor the information from the Government of Nova Scotia deed registry is enough proof. They also refuse to put in writing that they will cover said home until such time as the policy is cancelled. They say this is because I no longer live there. That is the kind of logic you will get if you deal with these people. Spend your hard-earned money with another company.
Their team is negligible, inaccurate, not helpful, miscommunicated many things, and is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was instructed to make changes, which I did, and their team told the wrong information to the insurance company.
If you're looking for home insurance, I would look for any other company than theirs.
Horrible service and no responsibility for their actions. They will not let you speak to a manager. Don't provide proper information on time. Nothing but issues with them. Avoid at all costs.
My home insurance has more than doubled in just 4 years! It's time to shop around for a better insurance company.
We have both of our cars insured through Johnson so we figured we would get our home insurance through them as well. We just bought our first house and we were so excited to move in. On the closing date, our lawyer contacted us asking what we were doing about home insurance. I told her that it had already been sorted out and that everything was in order. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case - at the last minute, they decided that they were denying our claim because we have our mortgage through a private lender (which they knew in advance). All of our stuff is sitting in a trailer. My husband and I and our 5-month-old baby are don't have anywhere to live because of this. Thanks a lot.
We moved from an apartment to our first home and all seemed well with our Johnson insurance until a month later when our mortgage company contacted us to ask what we were going to do about our cancelled insurance policy. The Johnson agent didn't process the payment properly, so they cancelled the policy with no notice of any kind - in fact, the copy of the cancel letter we received was addressed to the mortgage company, not to us. We think it is sorted out now, after a panicked phone call or two, but we don't really feel safe with Johnson at the moment.
When I signed with Johnson Insurance, I agreed to have a home inspection when signed with them. The inspector found a small crack in the chimney and I got a notice to complete the repairs within one month in February in Toronto Canada. I couldn't believe my eyes. Even a child understand how stupid it is to get a contractor to climb a frozen roof in the middle of winter but it looks like this insurance employees doesn't have the brain development of even a 5 year old person. The insurance claim from an injury or death would have been much higher that whatever small claim for a leak from the chimney. I have a degree in construction engineering and I know that the crack in the chimney is not going to cause any damage even if is not repaired in 5 years. It is a pity we have have to pay the money to this stupid companies.
Been a customer for about ten years. They used to have local offices and your broker knew you, and your family. Centralizing the calls to a call centre on the east coast is a huge loss in personalized service. They say it's to ensure the customer gets the same service every time they call; however, that is only possible if the folks answering the phones have been properly trained, with product knowledge, and know what they are talking about. The customer service experience is now agonizing; forever repeating information to the call centre operators. Information provided does not seem to get recorded on the files. We have provided details about our property several times over the past year and are still getting hounded to provide them; over and over again. Overall, a sad state of service delivery. Johnson has definitely lost our family as a customer.
Customer service poor: long waits on the phone, promises for calls back that never came, emailed questions that went unanswered.
We were paying an extra $500 because the insured property we were renovating for rental was not occupied, which was fine, however without warning we received a termination letter in the mail because we had exceeded the unoccupied period allowed (despite there being workers at the house 6 days/week) that we had never been informed about.
We got a tenant in and reinstated the insurance, then 2 months later received another letter of termination saying that we were too close to a commercial business, presumably the gas station across the side alley, again something that we were never asked about or informed of, nor can we find in the documentation.
We have since moved our insurance to another company for this property despite it costing a little more, and will do the same with our primary residence shortly.

They are cheap but they are horrible to deal with in every possible way. They told us our policy was cancelled and continued to take payments from us even though we talked to them and sent various emails stating we were cancelling our policy for both home and auto and they are still arguing with us that we didn't cancel the policy. And when we made a claim, they were horrible and expensive and not upfront about what was required. A month after we had the work done they started making requests for pictures before (which we obviously couldn't get because the work was done), during and after. And for a receipt. I had asked them prior to the work being done what they needed and I had emails stating "nothing"
