Living in fear

by Michael L on Mar 29, 2017
1.5 out of 5 stars

We moved from an apartment to our first home and all seemed well with our Johnson insurance until a month later when our mortgage company contacted us to ask what we were going to do about our cancelled insurance policy. The Johnson agent didn't process the payment properly, so they cancelled the policy with no notice of any kind - in fact, the copy of the cancel letter we received was addressed to the mortgage company, not to us. We think it is sorted out now, after a panicked phone call or two, but we don't really feel safe with Johnson at the moment.

#1 Stupid Insurance Company

by Esmeralda Cekrezi on Mar 2, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

When I signed with Johnson Insurance, I agreed to have a home inspection when signed with them. The inspector found a small crack in the chimney and I got a notice to complete the repairs within one month in February in Toronto Canada. I couldn't believe my eyes. Even a child understand how stupid it is to get a contractor to climb a frozen roof in the middle of winter but it looks like this insurance employees doesn't have the brain development of even a 5 year old person. The insurance claim from an injury or death would have been much higher that whatever small claim for a leak from the chimney. I have a degree in construction engineering and I know that the crack in the chimney is not going to cause any damage even if is not repaired in 5 years. It is a pity we have have to pay the money to this stupid companies.

They do NOT honour Airmiles

by GreyAluer on Jan 7, 2017
2 out of 5 stars

The reason I signed up for this service was due to a promotional Airmlies offer I took advantage of and I've stuck with them for a few years now. However, I noticed eventually that I never saw any Airmiles awarded from them. Upon notifying them of this I've been told by 3 people now that there's nothing they can do about it.

This is a good indication I guess of their customer service and to a lesser extent business organization and ethics (regarding ensuring they're good to their word).

Households in Alberta pay, on average, approximately $60/month in homeowners’ insurance costs. We can help to push these costs even further down. Get a house insurance quote today to start saving today. Rates start at $20/month.

Disappointing customer service

by NB on Dec 14, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Been a customer for about ten years. They used to have local offices and your broker knew you, and your family. Centralizing the calls to a call centre on the east coast is a huge loss in personalized service. They say it's to ensure the customer gets the same service every time they call; however, that is only possible if the folks answering the phones have been properly trained, with product knowledge, and know what they are talking about. The customer service experience is now agonizing; forever repeating information to the call centre operators. Information provided does not seem to get recorded on the files. We have provided details about our property several times over the past year and are still getting hounded to provide them; over and over again. Overall, a sad state of service delivery. Johnson has definitely lost our family as a customer.

Low $ not worth bad experience

by Fed up in Alberta on Aug 24, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Customer service poor: long waits on the phone, promises for calls back that never came, emailed questions that went unanswered.
We were paying an extra $500 because the insured property we were renovating for rental was not occupied, which was fine, however without warning we received a termination letter in the mail because we had exceeded the unoccupied period allowed (despite there being workers at the house 6 days/week) that we had never been informed about.
We got a tenant in and reinstated the insurance, then 2 months later received another letter of termination saying that we were too close to a commercial business, presumably the gas station across the side alley, again something that we were never asked about or informed of, nor can we find in the documentation.
We have since moved our insurance to another company for this property despite it costing a little more, and will do the same with our primary residence shortly.

What?!

by Angry lady on Jan 16, 2016

Called today to get a quote for tenant insurance and was told they couldn't help me because I lived above a business then he said "yeah you can't live 49 metres within a business!" Bologna then he said "why not stay with your current insurance company and get a different person to handle your insurance!" In which I said "this isn't fair and your company will never get my business ever!"

Do not recommend!

by Gushue on Dec 28, 2015

We had a break and enter in February 2014 and now almost two years later has not been resolved, the claim adjuster Claimspro, were very difficult to deal with and are still in possession of items that were given back from police to us and given to the adjuster but the adjuster felt they didn't need to be replaced. In particular a $529 mastercraft chop saw that was left outside in neighbours driveway three houses up in rain..freezing rain for god knows how long but the adjuster feels it is in full tact and not needed to be replaced. We have contacted the Insurance Company on several issues and seemed to be passed off because it is a claim issue not theirs. We pay high insurance premiums for peace of mind that if something tragic happens you are covered, we had replacement cost and we still haven't been reimbursed for many, many items that were stolen or damaged....we were treated like the criminal and not the victim.....we will be changing insurance when this ordeal is dealt with........

Overpriced house insurance

by sharshm on Dec 8, 2015
2 out of 5 stars

I have had my house insured with this company for many years. Recently, I switched to CAA House Insurance because they were able to insure my home for less than $800 compared with the over $1700 premium that Unifund Assurance gave me to renew my house insurance. In other word, CAA was able to offer basically the same coverage for less than half the price. Bottom line, shop around.

Poor customer service

by Mrs. Eckert on Nov 10, 2015
1.5 out of 5 stars

this insurance company was charging me for my son's insurance for a full year after I called to cancel it. My husband takes care of the bills but I did not notice they were still taking out the payment for my son until my husband complained about how high the bill was. When I tired to get a refund I was refused it because they said I did not call to cancel it. I gave them dates, times, phone number I called from, everything, and yet they said I did not call them. I even offered the facebook stream with my son where I told him that I cancelled it, they were not interested. I was basically called a liar. I have been with this company for 40 years and have had a few complaints about the company during that time, but this was the last straw for me. I am out more than 1000 dollars and I was basically told to collect the money from my son, they have no record of me calling. Trust me, I remember calling and being so angry when I cancelled his insurance in the first place, that I would not make this up.

Don't Make Claims

by Avoid Johnson Ins. on Jun 9, 2015
2 out of 5 stars

I've paid Johnson Ins. for 10 years, I put in a claim because of a leaking roof, they patched the roof when I asked how come the whole roof isn't being done I told that it only need a patch, 8 months later my roof leaks again and they're going to do 1 whole side of my roof, It didn't need to be replaced 8 moths later it does?? and the best part now my insurance is getting canceled... They have no problem taking my money but when I need them it's a problem... Avoid them unless you know that you'll never need to make a claim.
