Unauthorized change to policy

by Greg on Aug 17, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

In 2005 I put in place coverage for my rental property in Fort McMurray which included Additional Living Expenses. In July following the evacuation due to the wildfires I submitted a claim for loss of rental income; which was denied as ALE wasn't in place. Sometime in 2014 an employee of TD Insurnace changed my policy without my knowledge or consent and dropped ALE coverage. I am in the process of appealing this; but am not too hopeful for a successful resolution.

Rubbish

Their customer service is really rubbish, poor performance, they failed to inform me that I need to call them urgently after closing the ownership of my property and now refuse to insure me. Really poor, had they told me that I had to call immediately I would have. I will never use them again and will pull everything out.

No Notice Home Insur Cancelled

by Sri on May 31, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Being a loyal TD Bank customers, we opted for TD Home Insurance and they have cancelled our Home Insurance without giving any notice or call and would not provide is with a new quote and the state they dont wish to provide us any more Home Insurance Service due to non payment. To start with it was a pre-auth payment just like the one we have set for auto insurance.Since the time we received their first mail(which according to TD is not the first mail) we have been trying to reach them to resolve. The Customer Service Rep & Manager were rude and wouldnt help us. Finally after a long struggle they issued a new quote and when we called back to discuss they said its rejected as we have nonpayment history. Am surprise how much they dont know their customers. We were warned by friends but still went ahead with TD Insurance and today we are worried and shocked at our state. TD has no quality, respect for customers and cant be trusted any more. I wonder if i should bank with them anymore. They have put us in deep trouble and wouldnt help. I received no earlier correspondence from them on the cancellation and they have put us in risk. Would be great if we receive help in escalating this matter higher up and getting a resolution.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Punish you 4 their bad service

These guys have terrible and inefficient customer service. They lie to you and tell you something will only take a couple minutes that stretches into the range of an hour or more. They don't have their act together to actually just process your file, but put you on hold constantly while they try and figure out what they are supposed to be doing. They don't follow your request to communicate by email, and despite keeping you on the phone for an hour, they fail to disclose all of the charges that you are liable for but because you've entered a policy, they treat it as an open right to generate charges they failed to disclose. They have no respect when you tell them that they can't call you on your phone during the day because of your occupation. I am a teacher and I had to block their phone number because I can't be taking phone calls while I'm teaching, and then they refused to email me to ask me what they needed and then just started filing charges of $50 every two months, and no email explanation of the charges. They send it through as an adjustment on the statement which really isn't explaining that they intend to charge you an extra $50 every two months over and above the insurance you are already paying for. They are a make work institution that can't be trusted.

terrible customer service

I have had td home and auto insurance for 10 years with meloche monnex. I recently installed the nest home monitoring system with integrated smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and 2 way security cameras around the perimeter of my home. I called td insurance for the home security discount. I was told no they only consider traditional third party systems for the discount. I advised that was unfair. I wanted to talk to a supervisor and they said that due to it being a Saturday and they were short staffed, they do not handle calls like mine on Saturday....what the heck? I guess I am not very important as a client. I would not advise using them due to very poor customer service.

11 years 1 claim No coverage

by Go Scotia on Sep 8, 2015

After 11 years with TD. Meloche for home and autos and paying $5000/yr I had a wind and hail claim on my roof that was leaking and was only ten years old. The claims adjuster literally lifted his hand over his head holding his camera and took pictures. Brought the camera down and said, "ya this isn't insured" and left.

The only silver lining is Scotia is about $1000 per year less!

Never go TD, no wonder they use a Shakespeare actor, they are only pretending to offer insurance.

Terrible Customer Service

I wasn't impressed with my last 2 interactions with customer service at all. First, they do not explain all the options properly, all that I was given as an option for putting my home insurance on hold, while I am renting out the place (because I cannot rent out under my policy, it will be illegal too), is that I can't. They had never clearly mentioned the option of Tenant Insurance that is available on the market and now they claim that they did. Second, they are not helpful at all. When you start asking questions, they reply with the attitude like I am suppose to know every single little caveat of the insurance world, instead of being understanding and informative.

Beware on renewal

by gismo3 on Mar 17, 2015
1.5 out of 5 stars

We have had Meloche Monnex ever since they took over Liberty Mutual (+10 years) and in recent years the home policy has been creeping up and even though we never had claims. Every time I called, seemed they change their coverage and/or gave excuses on taxes/ gov't changes. I had always not bothered to look around. Now, I finally did and got much better quotes elsewhere and including Auto. I suggest to shop around when your renewal takes place.

Poor Experience

by lucie on Aug 22, 2014
1.5 out of 5 stars

After 8 yrs for home and auto, I had 2 claims, that were dealt with and a 3 problem that was not covered all Home related. I dealt with the one problem my self, but because I called to ask if it was covered they counted it as a claim, even though nothing was paid. I have since moved my auto insurance which they wanted to keep. but now am left looking for home insurance as they have labelled me high risk. They owe me 1 month auto insurance payment, which they took 1 month in advance, I think this company is terrible
.

THE BIGGEST THIEVES

by Gautam on Jun 23, 2014

I am writing to express my extreme displeasure in working with TD Meloche Monnex. I had taken up a coverage with TD last year after we moved into our new home last year in May. I had taken the policy up as it offered some options that my earlier provider Co-operators was not able to cover. Although the premium was higher by almost $ 300 then I took up the policy.
This year towards the renewal period (May 21st) I was told that the policy premium will go up for $ 65 to $ 88 a month on grounds of Alberta Floods. I hate the time of this discussion and questioned the logic of increasing the premium by over 35 % as it was widely in the news to expect a 10-20 % increase. I was told by the agent over the phone that we will need to accept it as this is the rate..

I had at that very moment decided to shop around for alternative provider as it just did not feel right. The cherry on the icing is that when I eventually managed to get a lower 17 days into the renewed policy I was asked to pay a $ 133 short rate fee !!!!!

This seems more like a case of capitalistic arrogance to me. The whole situation is completely controlled. I have to accept the changed exorbitant premium or pay an extra 133 $ for leaving you. The clock starts ticking from the first day of the policy. Best part of the story is that I have to suck up and live with this as I am pressed for time and feel that most others similarly placed people would be.

I am fully aware that TD does offer very different rates to different customers and have clearly witnessed that when Mortgage shopping.I have been banking with TD for 2 years and feel my loyalty with the company has not paid off at all. TD lost out on our mortgage business also due to their lack of responses and I ended up getting offers when they realised I had secured my business somewhere else.

I am a lay person in insurance business but I would understand most companies would underwrite risks with similar parameters which I assume are regulated to some extent. I hate to say that with identical and in some cases better coverage offered by competitor is at a much lower price.

Why should I be paying high premium for a a set up which does not offer even to discuss the policy in detail. Is it my contribution to the high salaries in the corner offices in TD or towards some financial blunders that you might have done and I have to pay for.

On a side note I have clear evidence on the premium hike as I have a quote from Cooperators dated last year April and this year vs TD to indicate the range in differences, which to me should be in similar nos considering all other parameters around it are equal. I would assume both companies had similar write off's due the recent floods. Here again these nos show that the premium hike has no logic and has been done more for an opportune cause than just.

Best part of the story.. 3 email follow ups to customer service to even get an acknowledgement.
