Water Leak and Damage

by Calvin G on Mar 31, 2017
5 out of 5 stars

We seem to have had a very different experience than most of the people writing reviews here! We recently had a water leak in our house that did some substantial damage to the walls and hardwood floor on the main level and to the walls, ceiling, and carpet in the basement rec room. TD sent a guy over within 24 hours to assess the damage. From the moment he arrived, Brian's message was not to worry and that they'd take care of us. A remediation team was sent in shortly after to do the immediate clean up. Right behind them was another team to do repair estimates. Our claims adjuster was Stacey and she called regularly to check on us to be sure we were being taken care of. Within a week we had an approved claim and had only to decide whether we would have their contractors do the work or hire our own. I was amazed at the service! Particularly since we'd only signed on with them a month before, a decision prompted by the fact that they were able to provide more than a $1000 discount on the home and auto bundle. I am so glad we made the switch. They could not have treated us better.

Unauthorized change to policy

by Greg on Aug 17, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

In 2005 I put in place coverage for my rental property in Fort McMurray which included Additional Living Expenses. In July following the evacuation due to the wildfires I submitted a claim for loss of rental income; which was denied as ALE wasn't in place. Sometime in 2014 an employee of TD Insurnace changed my policy without my knowledge or consent and dropped ALE coverage. I am in the process of appealing this; but am not too hopeful for a successful resolution.

Home Evacuation

by Joe and Trina on Aug 9, 2016
5 out of 5 stars

In regards to the Alberta wild fire of 2016 I had made a call to open a claim as we were being evacuated. During evacuation, monies were granted to myself and family for living expenses without any word of property damage, we were told to contact them in the coming weeks if more money would be required. As the month long evacuation progressed we did contact Monnex and was granted additional living expenses.
Upon return to our dwelling our adjusters' name and contact information was provided. We worked directly with the adjuster at this time and had a very pleasant experience.
When all was said and done (we are about 99% complete to date), TD Monnex Meloche has the reputation in our community of being the insurer to work with.
Their agents, adjuster, format for expenses, communications, and timeliness of claim closure made the entire experience a lot less stressful to deal with.
In summary, I will renew with TD and I know of many people who are now going to switch to TD Monnex Meloche.

Thank you to all who helped.

No Notice Home Insur Cancelled

by Sri on May 31, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Being a loyal TD Bank customers, we opted for TD Home Insurance and they have cancelled our Home Insurance without giving any notice or call and would not provide is with a new quote and the state they dont wish to provide us any more Home Insurance Service due to non payment. To start with it was a pre-auth payment just like the one we have set for auto insurance.Since the time we received their first mail(which according to TD is not the first mail) we have been trying to reach them to resolve. The Customer Service Rep & Manager were rude and wouldnt help us. Finally after a long struggle they issued a new quote and when we called back to discuss they said its rejected as we have nonpayment history. Am surprise how much they dont know their customers. We were warned by friends but still went ahead with TD Insurance and today we are worried and shocked at our state. TD has no quality, respect for customers and cant be trusted any more. I wonder if i should bank with them anymore. They have put us in deep trouble and wouldnt help. I received no earlier correspondence from them on the cancellation and they have put us in risk. Would be great if we receive help in escalating this matter higher up and getting a resolution.

Punish you 4 their bad service

These guys have terrible and inefficient customer service. They lie to you and tell you something will only take a couple minutes that stretches into the range of an hour or more. They don't have their act together to actually just process your file, but put you on hold constantly while they try and figure out what they are supposed to be doing. They don't follow your request to communicate by email, and despite keeping you on the phone for an hour, they fail to disclose all of the charges that you are liable for but because you've entered a policy, they treat it as an open right to generate charges they failed to disclose. They have no respect when you tell them that they can't call you on your phone during the day because of your occupation. I am a teacher and I had to block their phone number because I can't be taking phone calls while I'm teaching, and then they refused to email me to ask me what they needed and then just started filing charges of $50 every two months, and no email explanation of the charges. They send it through as an adjustment on the statement which really isn't explaining that they intend to charge you an extra $50 every two months over and above the insurance you are already paying for. They are a make work institution that can't be trusted.

be prepared to pay and pay

by tired of being ripped off on Jan 2, 2015
2.5 out of 5 stars

we have been with TD Meloche Monnex for many years. we have always had and paid for a comprehensive solution. in the last 5 years premiums have just been rising and they cannot provide any good reasons. some B.S. about being in a high risk zone for sewer backup was one they are trying to get past us. coverage for that has gone from 100,000 to $15,000, while the premium for it has increased 460% in the past 5 years. Rip off artists!!!!!
every year I call and ask why we are being penalized. we have already increased deductibles.
Service is good when you need them, but we cannot continue to allow them to take advantage of us.

Under Insured

by Jaded on Jun 20, 2014
2 out of 5 stars

I recently reviewed the insurance on 3 properties and they all have increased on average 15% per year over the last 5 years. This increase is not in line with inflation and when questioned I am given the same response that they made a calculating error in their policies causing an disproportionate increase in claims. Furthermore my coverage is decreasing and limits are being set which no longer provide adequate insurance. My sewer backup limit has dropped to $15K from $61K and my premium for this coverage increased $12. Being familiar with the cost of claims I am well aware that $15K will likely only cover the cost of tearing a basement apart and drying it up but leave nothing for restoration or contents. I called to ask why my policy was amended and now under-insured and was told that all policies are now capped at $15K for sewer backup unless I purchase additional insurance. All 3 properties are rated by TDMM as a category 3 risk for sewer backup however the cost to increase coverage from 15K to 50K varies from $35 - $78 per year. They could not answer why the cost for the additional $35K of coverage would vary for properties in the same city, geographical region and risk group.
They also informed me it is my responsibility to know my insurance needs and they can change rates and coverage at any time.
In short I no longer trust TDMM as they are not looking out for me and helping me manage my risk but only care about their risk and their bottom line. If you are not an insurance expert I would stay away from TDMM as their policies are not designed to help you in your time of need.
BTW 10 years insured and never a claim.

Changes 2013

I have been with the company for twenty+ years. Now they refuse coverage for above ground water damage because my roof is older than fifty years - yet a tin roof is the best and most long-lasting. Also now limit sewage back-up to $15000.
