I wasn't impressed with my last 2 interactions with customer service at all. First, they do not explain all the options properly, all that I was given as an option for putting my home insurance on hold, while I am renting out the place (because I cannot rent out under my policy, it will be illegal too), is that I can't. They had never clearly mentioned the option of Tenant Insurance that is available on the market and now they claim that they did. Second, they are not helpful at all. When you start asking questions, they reply with the attitude like I am suppose to know every single little caveat of the insurance world, instead of being understanding and informative.
TD is a ripoff. I'm going to start shopping around. I had to fight with them the last two years already because of ridiculous increase amounts that doesn't even fall in line with the anticipated market increases that is stated throughout the news due to weather conditions in Alberta. Mine has tripled (300%) over 3 years and that is after going for a bigger deductible and less coverage to try and minimize the premiums. I have been with TD for over 10 years and this is what they do to loyal customers. Imagine what happens to those that just signed up with them!
TD, I hope you are reading these responses, as you will hopefully go bankrupt when people start leaving in droves when they start shopping around and realize what a scam company you are.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
I had applied online and then called TD Insurance (Meloche Monnex) immediately. My online quote was $1,150. The representative on the phone gave me a quote of $1,577. I told him the difference was too great. He agreed to let me apply online again while we were on the phone. We used the same criteria on the quotation. The result was $1,150. He asked me to wait for 5 minutes and then said that the best he could do was $1,517. I got another insurance company quote (same terms) for $940.
My condo insurance premiums have increased 250% in 4 years with no claims. Why..??? nothing has increased 250%.. And now when I have a claim.. nothing but problems. Adjuster was rude and still no money/coverage
So I'm buying a home and shopping around for insurance. TDMM appears to have great rates, so I try to fill out the quote online. Something turns red and I have to call to complete the quote (another 45 minutes down the drain, but "oh, that's not a problem."). I get the quote in the mail, seems good. I call to request the policy. Umm... we can't find your quote. (Seems my # got reused). Spend 1/2 hour trying to find the original quote. Start all over again, spend another hour on the phone because the agent cannot correctly copy anything down over the phone. Me "1-2-3" ... he says "2-2-3?" I say, No, "1-2-3" he says "3-2-3?" You get the idea. Then we get to the end, but now it has to go to an underwriter for review, I'll call you back on... " Never heard from again. (I've tried getting auto policies before too, but they NEVER call back like they say they will). I can only conclude they don't WANT my business.
we have been with TD Meloche Monnex for many years. we have always had and paid for a comprehensive solution. in the last 5 years premiums have just been rising and they cannot provide any good reasons. some B.S. about being in a high risk zone for sewer backup was one they are trying to get past us. coverage for that has gone from 100,000 to $15,000, while the premium for it has increased 460% in the past 5 years. Rip off artists!!!!!
every year I call and ask why we are being penalized. we have already increased deductibles.
Service is good when you need them, but we cannot continue to allow them to take advantage of us.
I called TD 6 weeks after my old tenants insurance policy expired. I was out of the country and didn't receive their letters until I returned. When I called to cancel they not only charged me for the pro-rated fee for the 6 weeks (which was fair enough) they also charged me a cancellation fee for cancelling mid-way through my contract. Despite never having agreed to a new contract or even paying for a new contract year I was on the hook for a new contract and it's cancellation fee. No matter who I spoke to their response didn't change. And when I asked what happens if I never got the letter, the manager said that would have been a different matter. So obviously there is a way to get out of that fee. So my advice is if this happens to you just lie and say you didn't get it.
They have lost a customer for life. So I hope the extra money was worth it them.
We had a basement flood after a pipe burst. They were quick to respond, seemed fair in their coverage, and the representative we dealt with was very personable and helped us smooth out any little bumps (like speeding up the contractor now and then!).
They are very helpful when you buy insurance from them but later if you have a claim, or if you want to cancel, they make your life difficult. I was so mad with them I canceled all my policies with them, the customer service agent was almost yelling at me when I said I would like to cancel my policy. Will never go back there. And they are one of the most expensive insurance rate.
After 11 years with TD. Meloche for home and autos and paying $5000/yr I had a wind and hail claim on my roof that was leaking and was only ten years old. The claims adjuster literally lifted his hand over his head holding his camera and took pictures. Brought the camera down and said, "ya this isn't insured" and left.
The only silver lining is Scotia is about $1000 per year less!
Never go TD, no wonder they use a Shakespeare actor, they are only pretending to offer insurance.
